Goji the blue tegu
Goji is from Rose City Reptiles and came from the Legacy and Stormy pairing in 2025. He had a couple of his digits stolen by one of his clutch mates when he was a baby but it doesn’t seem to bother him at all. This guy has such a sweet personality and is growing up super fast!

Meal Prep
Still recovering from surgery so my Sunday meal prep is for Tegus that might brumate any day. My wife convinced/told me to get a freezer for reptile food. Turkey, salmon, chicken gizzards, chicken liver, collard greens and blueberries. Yum

Researching tegus
Hello! I want a tegu in the future, so I’ve been researching. I was wondering if anyone here has any good resources or care guides I could look at. I’m also interested in knowing tips or tricks and good ethical breeders.
I’m interested to know how fast they grow as babies, and the best ways to set up a naturalistic enclosure as well. Enclosure recommendations are welcome too!
Id also just love to see pictures of your tegus, they’re adorable!!

Brumation in Bioactive Enclosure
I'm a fairly new Tegu mom. Can anyone advise on brumation with a tegu in a bioactive enclosure? Our male is 4.5 years old and was adopted in March. He's sleeping a lot, and we're fine with that, but we have a concern.
We reduced his food & adjusted husbandry. We got him cleaned out; however, he wakes several times a week & eats beetles (from mealworms a few mos. ago) that are still running around in the substrate.
I read that brumating with food in the gut can be harmful. We've been waking him every other day for a soak trying to get him to poop. Has anyone managed brumation safely with cleanup crew still in the enclosure? Any advice would be appreciated. (Posted on FB group also.) Thanks!

Is Orijen fresh prey good for my tegus. Bonus pics of new passenger section.
So I looked a bit into them and they have veggies fruits and 85% whole prey. They also had different types of frozen meals. I can’t find an ingredient list so I was wondering if anyone else looked into this. Every time I google it it comes up with farmers dog and that’s not what this is. I guess it may be a new company or something. If these are good this is 55 bucks for a bulk box for me and it’s at my local pet store. I can’t ship well to my apartment and I’m worried about shipping and being stuck at work so it all goes to waste. If I can get food local I rather do that. It’ll be a lot cheaper than what I have been doing which is making bowls myself.
Does anyone else know if this company is safe for tegus or should I keep feeding them homemade mash and whole prey.
Also bonus: I upgraded steak to the rear trunk compartment of my Ford escape. As much as I don’t like animals being in the truck space he was becoming a handful in the passenger seat. I had to bring him to my old house because I left my first aid kit with my ex. He got a boo boo on his tail. All is well and it shouldn’t require a vet visit. I soaked it in betadine and added honey ointment before wrapping it in toilet paper and electrical tape since I ran out of cotton and paper tape. Still not sure how it happened but he was shedding and there was a piece of cone shaped shed on my floor when I came home so I can only assume he got it off on the baseboard he rubs against.

HELP! Does she look okay?
This is month 6 of owning her, she's grown exponentially but went down to brumate ~3 weeks ago. She's come out three times that I've seen. Her skin looks bad, right? Sagging in the middle. I'm not sure if I should try to pull her out of brumation. Her heat lamp has been off but is normally above that rock she's on.

Was lucky enough to get a baby tegu (3 weeks old) the breeder said the diet he has them on is ground chicken mixed with fruits/vegs. Should I stick to it or could I do ground turkey instead? Also what kind of vitamins to yall recommend?

HELP! Potty Training Help
I'm in the stages of potty training my Tegu and have gotten them successfully peeing where I want them to(in the bathtub) but they refuse to poop in there and much prefer the carpet in my bedroom. I am using the shallow hot water trick in the bathtub which gets him peeing right away but he will wait until he can get into my bedroom to poop often pooping right after I let him out of the bathtub. he poops in random spots in the bedroom too, I guess he likes the carpet? Any suggestions on how to get him to poop in the bathtub? maybe fake grass? Usually he signals me that he wants to poop and I let him in the bathtub right away.

HELP! Jealous of good eaters!
My tegu looks like it is growing but slowly. It has gone from 2.1oz 2.5 weeks ago to about 2.7oz a few days ago. Is this a normal growth curve?
It was just moved into its new enclosure and buries itself a lot. I don't want it to brumate given its young age and small size.

My JJxTiffany baby from RCR
She's so gorgeous. Still very scared of me. It's been maybe two weeks now. She's finally not extremely scared when I move around for the most part unless I'm moving erratically like getting dressed she still gets scared, but me just walking in and out or she's okay..and she's so smart she's ALWAYS watching me and my eyes. Everytime I look over she's looking right back at me. so right now my enclosure is on the floor. When I got my ackie like 10 years ago it was the same thing and I had a lot of quick progress in comfort around me when I moved my ackie enclosure up to a higher level in my room. Do you think it will benefit my tegus comfort level being higher up? Even tho they're very terrestrial?
Also you can really see the high white on her neck and chest!! And her blues. She's literally so pretty it's wild..

Brumation help
Hi guys, I have a b&w tegu named Everest. He is about a year and a half old. When i first got him at 3 months old, he brumated. No matter what we did he wouldnt come out of it so the vet recommended letting him finish the cycle even though he was so young. When he woke up he went right back to normal he was eating and drinking and socializing properly, but now he looks like hes going down again. I'm so so paranoid, so could anybody tell me if he looks okay? I put bamboo under his waterbowl so he could burrow with some structure under because his heavy water bowl seems to be his favorite hide out od his 3 others lol. Any advice for brumation care would be GREATLY appreciated
PS he is pretty small for his age, vet thinks its because the juvenile brumation slowed his growth considerably

I don’t know what to name this title but here’s some information I’ve learned.
So I got a tape measure and steak measures a whopping 32.5 inches. I also met the previous owner who said he got steak around August as a hatchling and didn’t expect him to grow as quick so he brought him to petco who took care of him until I took him in. That’s where I learned his story and he was in a small tank because he grew to fast. And I agree he has grown really fast. He sheds every day now and I’m having trouble keeping up with his sheds but he seems to have them under control. I brought him home January 31, 2026 around 2pm cst. I can see steak getting to that 4.5 foot range. He’s so big and heavy now
His sister potato is 2 year old. I got brought her home on October 18th,2024 around 2-3pm CST. She was still partly baby green partly yellow and looked like a fat little unripe potato. If I had to guess she was only a couple months old. I didn’t get a hatch date. She’s only 23.5 inches. I can probably guess she may get to 3 feet.
While potato is still very small for her age she is very healthy acording to the vet. Vet recommended that I feed her full rats rather than separate meats so that she gets more food in her since she is such a picky eater. So for now on she is eating small- medium rats. I’m trying to set up another uv lamp for her that hopefully she can’t break this time 🤞. I’m putting heavy duty metal zip ties on it so she gets her uv because I think her habit of breaking lamps has maybe caused her growth. The vet gave me the idea to put metal automotive zip ties on it so it’s more stable. I don’t know if the uv and rats will help but let’s hope. I really don’t want to drop another 100 bucks on a uv lamp again. She could just be small. Steak however is gonna be huge.. he’s constantly growing. I kind of wish potato had steaks genetics. Her growth has worried me. I wish petco let the owners meet the parents but I feel like their breeding facility would make me cry. It’ll at least let me understand potato’s genetics. My mom is helping me with a tank. It’ll be a birthday gift I can fit in my apartment. Even though it’ll only be 4’x5’ it’s something temporary until I can get a house. I’m glad she’s willing to help me because she knows how much my reptiles mean to me even if she doesn’t really like reptiles.
Love you mom ❤️.

HELP! Diet for tegu
I am going to an expo tomorrow and there is a chance I will be getting a tegu. I was wondering what is everyone’s food recommendations that won’t break the bank.
Edit: I feel like I sent the wrong message with my original question, I understand the price of getting everything for a tegu. I’m asking for any lesser know foods for tegus that may be a good treat or alternative for other things. I know what their diet is and what the care requirements are.
