Games I love this clip because you see starkiller literally disintegrating stormtroopers and trees with his powers while darth vader just casually walks to him like he's mildly inconvenienced by cold wind

People will see this and say Starkiller isn't op

The dude force pulled a Star Destroyer from orbit.

He was so OP they had to stop making his games

Wasn't it already crashing/really close to the planet?

It was in atmosphere above a city.

Thats the canon explaination. People don't talk about this but the game isn't canon to its own story, it's a power fantasy variant. The Novelization explains the canonized story where yeah, he just redirected it and let gravity do the heavy lifting.

Even redirecting it with the force is a pretty big feat

This is true, but it's a very different ballgame than ripping it out of the sky

u/kapxis 8d ago

It doesn't help blind jedi dude yells " Rip it out of the sky!!" lol

"Good....NOW RIP IT DOWN."

Been a minute since I last read the book, but iirc he didn’t just redirect it like deflecting a punch, he redirected it by flinging to the side like a frisbee

Why do you assume the novelization is the canon version? We don't do that for the movie novelizations, so why do it for a game?

u/Anonymous-Mf-22 13d ago

Because the author's intention was for one to serve as the true Canonical story (it was considered C-Canon in old canon) while the other was a power fantasy with roughly the same story, just significantly scaled upwards. Galen is significantly weaker in the novel and barely survived his fight with Vader by getting lucky while the game shows a pretty decisive victory on Starkiller's end.

One reason is because the game allows you to make choices. And you can't have both choices be canon. Also like, you can lose in the game if you stop playing.

But most importantly you can't have a mysterious character we've never seen in the movies be 100x more powerful than the most powerful sith.

In the Wii version I think the SD is shown crashing

u/Malak1man 13d ago

It was going to crash right on top of him, so he used the force to accelerate the ship's landing so it'd cinematically stop right in front of him. Pretty cool.

They stopped making his games about 25% of the way through TFU2

No arguments here. Lots of fun

Omega level mutant abilities. “Naw that’s just what the force do!”

16

u/Thelastknownking 13d ago

No, people will see this and say "Starkiller still isn't the most powerful Force user".

And he wasn't. He's not even in the top 3 in Legends, actually.

24

u/indoninjah 13d ago

I feel like that says more about how fucked Legends was than anything lol

17

u/Thelastknownking 13d ago

It's also contextual.

Starkiller did not need to be as powerful as he was.

Luke became that powerful in Legends because they wanted to show how powerful Anakin could've become, through Luke.

Palpatine was unnaturally augmenting his power, so it wasn't naturally that way.

And then Vaylin in Old Republic is presented as an unstable force of nature, so as to make it more impactful when she's taken down.

Starkiller, they just wanted to have some fun. The mistake was making it canon, even if only for a while before other authors started intentionally kinda blacklisting it.

No it's just because in "legends canon" starkiller goes off the novel who isn't powerful. The game wasn't canon the star wars universe. In legends there were definitely absurdly powerful sith like Nihilus and Vitiate, but these were one-off anomalies. Most sith in legends were below Sidious' level in canon and the most powerful were at Vader's level.

Powerscalers hate this one trick

I mean you could argue this is a showing of true power of the force against normies vs a fully trained force user, which is usually the battles we see in the movies. Against normies, the force disintegrates them. But against Vader, it’s nothing but a breeze.

u/MajorSery 13d ago

I've always said that TFU shows the Force the way it should be. With stuff like this Vader's line in ANH about the Death Star being insignificant compared to the power of the Force actually makes some sense. But even Starkiller barely manages to outdo a single Star Destroyer. If there had been two he'd've been toast.

The most powerful thing we'd seen in the movies at this point in time was Yoda lifting an X-wing. So the most powerful Jedi ever was about as useful as a small crane. That's small potatoes compared to the claim Vader made. At least now in canon we have Palpatine zapping a whole fleet with his lightning.

3

u/Inevitable_Badger641 12d ago

Maybe vader was talking about the force as a whole and not one person tapping into it.

6

u/Weird_Angry_Kid 13d ago

Yeah, Jedi and Sith are treated like supersoldiers who can change the tide of entire wars but the movies themselves don't really show why this is the case but the narrative is built around Force users being stupidly broken.

If Jedi can be killed by just a couple of guys with guns, then the Jedi Purge doesn't make any sense. Palpatine spent so many resources trying to hunt down any survivors of Order 66 because he knew even a single surviving Jedi had the potential to topple his Empire.

People always bring up Order 66 to say the Jedi are weak but they forget the whole point of Order 66 is that the only way the Clones could have won was betraying the people they had been fighting side by side with for the past 3 years, people who trusted them with their lives.

but the force isn't about moving things... It's something a force user can do. but it's like a tiny part.

We already have proof: Nobody is calling Anakin a Mary Sue.

I mean he doesn't though? He wins most of the time. And when he does lose he never has long term consequences(outside of Shmi)

He absolutely can be one, at least in TPM.

Then Rey wouldn't count either. She doesn't easily win all of the time, and her victories come at a cost.

I don't consider Shaak-Ti much weaker and wouldn't mind her being stronger and him getting lucky or a circumstantial victory. If Ahsoka fell with Anakin and trained under him long enough she could get quite far.

How strong is Bastila Shan? Don't people like her?

I wouldn't care all else equal. Could have nabbed a child of Quinlan and Asajj or Kento Marek and a Nightsister survivor or just Merrin. Could have had her pick up some magick to go with her force abilities which would be dope to flesh out. Heck now it could be Devon as a variant of Darth Talon. Or even Omega which would play into the later cloning thing as she being the only successful instance of making one that was force sensitive and want to learn why it worked for Palps plans.

Others have already addressed the novels when it comes to where he stands.

Meh I am sure some might but I think you're overstating it.

He was extremely strong in the force and had like 13 years of training with unlimited resources by Darth Vader himself with the express purpose of making him as strong as possible to be able to help overthrow Palps plus dark side quick path to power perks in a galaxy steeped in it at the time. He is not a gary stu for that. It wasn't just a few years and his apprenticeship is over twice as long as Ahsoka was a padawan (granted she had like 14 years as a youngling but that isn't equivalent training and he wouldn't have any such period of taking it easy). Same amount of time that Anakin had but with none of the Jedi restraint and all of the above driving force to grow in power. It's like having a kid clone of Mace or Dooku to work with and maybe better. He is definitely a rarity to have been as naturally strong in the force (m-count) but not out of the realm of possibility and nothing like the absurdity of Luke and Rey (not that Luke should have ever been used as a reference/template once we had fleshed out lore and he only gets a meta pass because it was the beginning of the franchise in a limited media format making it up as they went so it should have been ignored and they had no excuse to copy and paste it on Rey).

I haven’t played Survivor so don't have a stance on it but by that point in time she really shouldn't stand a chance and any success like that on her part should be circumstantial imo because he is just that powerful and there is no indication Cere should have that kind of potential. I am perfectly fine with circumstantial defeats especially for Jedi who lock in and listen to the force like Kanan making clutch moves against GI and Maul despite being inferior imo. Its really a timeline issue as if it were possible that that version of her was fighting him as of the first game it would be much more viable as while this may just be my take because they have an issue not treating Vader as if he was the same through the whole 23 years I would consider it taking probably ~5 years just for him to catch back up to his RotS self (imo a non handicapped Maul should be able to likely take Vader in MSL) overall but after 10 years he would have exceeded that and most don't even have the potential to match him as he was then. So yeah I would be inclined to him toying with or underestimating her given she was not much of an issue last time and led to a circumstantial defeat but idk how it was portrayed and wouldn't be surprised if in typical game fashion they lean into wanting you to feel empowered which is where like with TFU it would be nice to have a novel leveling things out. Note that I mean context and not necessarily general feats as I am fine with and think they don't do a good enough job showing both the depth and breadth of force user abilities especially given how most of the characters we spend any time with are elite in the grand scheme of things (I don't have a stance on her and Cal atm but at least she would most certainly fall into that A-tier per my scale (probably even before O66) which could be like the top 1-3% of Jedi in the order and even GI is in it or TCW Ahsoka or Daki).

Vader should be anomalously powerful and as a result there really shouldn't be hardly any who could face him on paper in a straight fight (Ahsoka rightfully could barely defend herself albeit against a stronger version and she should probably have more potential than Cere though I wouldn't say she fulfilled it given her circumstances compared to a better timeline) and I am not inclined to just applying power creep to solve that as its just a bad idea.

What's your point?

1

u/BON3SMcCOY 13d ago

I wonder if this game + FU2 did more damage to the community and discourse than anything else since

1

u/dandelogre 13d ago

Just that he doesn't exist, is all. Anyone arguing that Starkiller isn't comically stronger than like every canon force user doesn't know who you're talking about.

1

u/Tempest_Barbarian Obi-Wan Kenobi 13d ago

He is strong, but I think its fair to say that every force user is pretty juiced in the the force unleashed, all of them do crazy things.

Its part of the language of the medium.
