I hope it sells well because that’s the only decision factor

Will play it tomorrow but seeing reviews it looks really awesome

u/RatQueenHolly Aug 27 '26

Even then, it still wouldn't be a sure thing. The games industry is such a mess right now

90

u/Uncle-Cake Aug 27 '26

EA is publishing it, so I assume even if it's a financial success, the developers will be laid off.

41

u/TheShoobaLord Aug 27 '26

EA, believe it or not, has been a surprisingly friendly employer to most of its subsidiary studios. This might change with the new acquisitions but EA has consistently been one of the lesser pieces of shit in the AAA space

12

u/the_bananalord Aug 27 '26

Didn't they just lay off a ton of people working on Battlefield 6 after boasting about how well the game is doing and how much more content they have planned?

6

u/wicktus Aug 27 '26

They laid off developers who worked on BF6 but they did not disclose the numbers.

19

u/ansonr Aug 27 '26

Didn't EA just get bought by basically the Saudi Government.

12

u/TheShoobaLord Aug 27 '26

I mentioned that yeah, so it could change now but I’m just going off historical trends

7

u/IronVader501 Aug 27 '26

Bit Reactor is an indipendent studio. EA has no say in their staffing.

3

u/VYSUS7 Aug 28 '26

laid off from the company that EA doesn't own and is completely independent?

2

u/Journey2thaeast Aug 28 '26

Thankfully they're just the publisher and Bit Reactor is indie

1

u/Krandor1 Aug 27 '26

Yeah the next 2 months there are a ton of games coming out and will not be room for all of them even if good and it is because everybody is staying away from GTA6 so they are trying to get everything released before them creating a massive flood of games next 2 months.

64

u/South_Buy_3175 Aug 27 '26

They had me at Star Wars + X-Com.

Such a good combo on paper, I just hope they have realistic sales targets, because these games are kinda niche.

17

u/Deeppurp Aug 27 '26

Lots of gaming Genre's are Niche until the exception comes along and blows it up. It doesn't frequently happen.

I hope based on the community hype that Zero Company is the exception.

11

u/tehSILENZIO Aug 27 '26

Expedition 33 is a good example of that

6

u/VFiddly Aug 27 '26

Also Baldur's Gate 3. Very rare for a CRPG to get that much mainstream attention

2

u/SharkBaitDLS Aug 27 '26

Elden Ring too. Soulslikes were not really mainstream and that game blew way past the usual audience.

2

u/BannedSvenhoek86 Aug 27 '26

Honestly I don't care as much about the xcom side, but the acting in the story trailer I saw was genuinely phenomenal so I'm tempted just for that.

I do like xcom, it's just not my favorite thing so it wasn't a huge selling point for me personally.

7

u/JJJBLKRose Aug 27 '26

The Gameranx review was pretty favorable. A fun Star Wars XCOM with some bugginess in the pre-release build. Basically said just about every negative is fixable with a normal patch and that was before the day one patch they had planned.

9

u/Haha91haha Aug 27 '26

It was one of the top sellers already early in the week if that's any hope on Steam. Would be great to see it do well because already I could see great SQL potential building into the Dark times or Rebellion era.

3

u/BannedSvenhoek86 Aug 27 '26

Top selling on steam is great, but lots of games have held that spot and still disappointed with sales.

7

u/Inner-Ad2847 Aug 27 '26

It’s really fun so far.

4

u/AechB Aug 27 '26

Exactly. Midnight Suns was a great game no one bought.

1

u/Arrowmkr Aug 28 '26

It wasn't great, all the personal relations crap made it a chore.

2

u/The5Virtues Aug 27 '26

Imagine if we get a follow up sequel during the GCW? I’d love getting to play a Rebel guerilla group taking on the Empire.

0

u/PermissionFederal325 Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26

Honestly after being fooled by all the Odyssey hype… this feels like the same kinda bs… are you people real?

Edit: went to check it out and 78% mostly positive… I’m happy it’s not bad. I’ll likely pick it up

Edit: looks like performance issues. I love xcom

Cant wait to jump in tonight! They could make similar games in different eras if it all works out. So if the game is as good as reviews are making it out to be we may get to see more of them in the future. Im excited for this one though!

37

u/Beazfour Aug 27 '26

Yeah I’d kill for a game like this but focused on the rebel alliance.

22

u/Antique-Coach-214 Aug 27 '26

Rebel Alliance would be nice, as would Old Republic era. (That could be closer to BattleTech in nature.)

1

u/DDA7X Aug 28 '26

It would fit in so well with pre New Hope Rebel Alliance, especially if they lean into Andor

1

u/ExpendableUnit123 Aug 28 '26

I’d hope that we’d get basically XCOM2 for that, with some scrappy ship like the Avenger. Perhaps some X-wings we can fill the hanger and use for air support on outdoor missions.

Man it could be SO good. Operating as a splinter rebellion cut off from the rest. The story practically writes itself.

Squad size of up to 6 too maybe. I want it.

4

u/jblade91 Aug 27 '26

I was originally interested since its a Clone Wars era game but of the actual gameplay is good I'd enjoy a sequel with the Rebel Alliance. Could even do a trilogy with one happening during the transition where we deal with our clone teammates as they get Order 66 at some point in the game. Old Republic of course would be amazing too.

85

u/smalltincan Aug 27 '26

This is the first game I've bought new at full price since Baldurs Gate 3. Pre-loaded and ready to go. After seeing some reviewers put it in their Top 3 Star Wars games ever I definitely want to see more from the studio, maybe even Star Wars 4X

14

u/OrangePeelsLemon Aug 27 '26

Same. I was going to wait, but then all the reviews started coming in and I decided to buy the deluxe edition. Gotta remember I still have to go into work tomorrow, though, and not stay up too late playing.

2

u/smalltincan Aug 27 '26

Yup, after seeing the reviews and playing a bit this morning I feel pretty vindicated in my choice. If we want the good stuff to shine through the slop, we need to show up and support it - not just in games but in everything

1

u/Captn76 Aug 27 '26

What did you get with the deluxe edition and is it worth it?

2

u/OrangePeelsLemon Aug 27 '26

It's just some cosmetic packs, but I decided it was worth supporting a dev that's made a very good game in a niche that I enjoy.

2

u/Ohhellnowhatsupdawg Aug 28 '26

I wonder at the age of reviewers putting it in their top 3 ever because it's crazy to think this game, as good as it is, would ever dethrown KOTOR, Rogue Squadron, Tie Fighter, or several others.

2

u/smalltincan Aug 28 '26

KOTOR 1 is definitely in my personal Top 3 but Rogue Squadron and Tie Fighter are held up heavily by nostalgia and tolerance for simpler gameplay, and I mean that with all due respect since they were excellent for their time.

2

u/Ohhellnowhatsupdawg Aug 28 '26

Both hold up just fine coming from someone who's played both in the last several years. If anything is KOTOR that stands out as being janky and showing it's age.

3

u/smalltincan Aug 28 '26

Eh have to disagree. KOTOR's story is timeless and still the best among all Star Wars games. There's a reason broader audiences know about KOTOR and not the flight combat games.

1

u/Embarrassed-Tale-200 Sep 04 '26

After having beaten it, I'd consider top 5 to be way too high praise for Zero Company.

Star Wars Galaxies, KOTOR 1&2, Republic Commando, Jedi Knight 2 and Academy, Galactic Battlegrounds, Force Commander, Rebellion, SWTOR, Jedi-Ginger 1&2, Battlefront 1&2 pre-EA, Empire at War, TIE Fighter and X-wing games, Rogue Squadron... That's a strong list to put Zero Company on top of.

I enjoyed it, but it's honestly pretty mediocre and disappointing in hindsight. Definitely not worth the price.

Lots of complaints about the game, technical, gameplay, content, ideological influence... That said, it only left me wanting more Star Wars games.

1

u/smalltincan Sep 04 '26

That's the great part about having a selection of games, our opinions can differ! KOTOR1 and Force Unleashed 1 still beat it for me, but it sits comfortably at 3rd and I'm excited for more potential content to expand the game more like WotC did with XCOM2

1

u/Embarrassed-Tale-200 Sep 05 '26

Well I can agree with you that more content for Zero Company would be welcomed!

I really would prefer modifiers to the sandbox that exists rather than just tacked on story missions.

Opportunities on map for extra resources/loot, risk vs reward for sticking around longer/spending turns opening shit under fire.

More skills/classes.

Maybe some support skills or tools tied to map gameplay. Like having slicers to open doors to for a faster route during a gauntlet, or lock doors to block reinforcements. Anything like that.

Definitely would love a sandbox mode to manage a mercenary company with all these extra options. It would make death feel less punishing if you actually had options on what difficulty missions to take without the threat of story mission timers.

88

u/DrakeSoldier Aug 27 '26

Star Wars turned based rpg would be the best.

73

u/LucasMoreiraBR Jedi Aug 27 '26

It is the best indeed. Boy, do I have two games to recommend to you.

Knights of the Old Republic

Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords

But for real, I don't think we have had anything like zero company in the franchise before, it doesn't come to memory

36

u/KilledTheCar Aug 27 '26

KOTOR with BG3-like combat would be god-tier. It's good as-is, but it's dated and a bit clunky in my opinion.

15

u/Kryzm Count Dooku Aug 27 '26

God, imagine if Larian could do a BG3-style game with the Star Wars FFG narrative dice ruleset...

2

u/A_Damn_Millenial Aug 27 '26

Alternatively, they could stick with D&D 5e now that Hasbro just announced Star Wars will join D&D Universes Beyond next year.

2

u/SapphireWine36 Aug 27 '26

As much as I love ffg Star Wars, I don’t think it would work great in a video game.

1

u/AreYouOKAni Aug 28 '26

Yeah, a lot of the time the dice resolution leaves a relatively creative human arbiter stumped for a moment. Unless they create a metric fuckton of pre-made resolutions for every possible event, it's not gonna work properly.

1

u/SapphireWine36 Aug 28 '26

I suppose you could use it for combat and then out of combat just use it for strain/boosts?

2

u/AreYouOKAni Aug 28 '26

Maybe, but I think having to adjust the entire system like that would be grounds enough to consider just building your own.

1

u/TriscuitCracker Aug 28 '26

That would be like…the greatest game ever.

Of all time.

10

u/DrakeSoldier Aug 27 '26

Oh yeah I love KOTOR, especially 2, I just want it more old school like Final Fantasy or Expedition 33.

4

u/Lithium187 Aug 27 '26

An E33 style game in the star wars universe would clap. Imagine the animations parrying and countering as a jedi. Beautiful.

1

u/DrakeSoldier Aug 27 '26

Oh yeah the made up scenario I have in my head is that the protag has to be a Jedi

1

u/LucasMoreiraBR Jedi Aug 27 '26

Agreed. And 2 is also my favorite

3

u/Evilmudbug Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

They're good games, but mostly for the story.

I think real-time with pause is a bit dated as a gameplay style and not really what most people are considering when they think "turn-based"

It would be really cool to see something derivative of Baldur's Gate 3's system in a star wars game though

5

u/The_Pandalorian Baby Yoda Aug 27 '26

Gimme Star Wars in Baldur's Gate 3 and Witcher 3 and I will be complete.

Oh and a remake of Tie Fighter.

That's all I ask for.

3

u/LucasMoreiraBR Jedi Aug 27 '26

I just want Kotor 3 and a remake of Republic Commando... But those two will never happen.

1

u/The_Pandalorian Baby Yoda Aug 27 '26

Oh, yeah. Gimme those, too, lol.

Good call.

1

u/ansonr Aug 27 '26

I mean we got star wars squadrons. Not exactly a Tie Fighter remake, but its pretty awesome regardless.

1

u/The_Pandalorian Baby Yoda Aug 27 '26

Yeah, I found Squadrons OK, but was really frustrated that it wasn't anywhere close to the quality of Tie Fighter. Like... just... make that game, but with the Tie Fighter campaigns. It was right there for them to do...

2

u/ansonr Aug 27 '26

Well... we do have this.

1

u/The_Pandalorian Baby Yoda Aug 27 '26

I've downloaded versions of that conversion like 10 times but never actually went through the trouble of installing it.

Maybe I'll finally give this a shot... It does look pretty darn good in that video.

1

u/ansonr Aug 27 '26

Its very good from the bit I've played it.

6

u/Nwrecked Aug 27 '26

The corporate heads are so fucking stupid. Almost every single game with mod support eventually gets a full Star Wars reskin.

17

u/hipertim Aug 27 '26

Give them an Old Republic game next and I’m there day one.

12

u/DarthGamer2004 Moff Gideon Aug 27 '26

Buying it tonight!

7

u/Inner-Ad2847 Aug 27 '26

I’ve just been playing and it’s awesome. So much customisation.

30

u/kairock Aug 27 '26

obviously make more z-com games!

however, hope they do consider an x-com 'war of the chosen' sized expansion to zero company before jumping to the next title.

2

u/Esternaefil Aug 27 '26

I really hope so too. I'm somewhat concerned that there are no in-place plans for expanding the base game.

I know people tend to look down on pre-announced DLC, but I like to know if a game will be supported.

8

u/Foxesz Aug 27 '26

Alternatively, an extremely solid and finished game without any extra plans IS also fine. Especially if no one can predict just how successful it'll be.

17

u/onesneakymofo Aug 27 '26

I am literally buying this to support the developers and to show Disney that it needs to open up the Star Wars license to others so that we can get more Star Wars games. I've only seen a ten second clip and that's it, lol.

6

u/Snakebud Aug 27 '26

Mandos is all I want and need.

5

u/nicomarchon Aug 27 '26

a imperial commando turn base tactical game.... one can dream....

3

u/alcatrazcgp Darth Sidious Aug 27 '26

yes please, more, lots more, plenty even

4

u/Gooberverse Aug 27 '26

Instant purchase. I will always support devs the make great games.

5

u/TopherYork21 Ahsoka Tano Aug 27 '26

God i wish I enjoyed this style of game.

2

u/Pissed_Off_Jedi Aug 30 '26

Same. Biggest Star Wars nerd on planet earth and I didn’t even consider buying this because it’s turn based combat. Not even Star Wars could overrule my dislike for those types of games. It is immersion breaking to me, I need to be in it not looking down on it and being able to freeze time.

3

u/Nastane Aug 27 '26

Please do, make more because zero company is great!

3

u/Gobstoppers12 Aug 27 '26

I'm not a day 1 full price game buyer anymore, but this one's on my radar and I can't wait for there to be a decent sale.

6

u/tyrant454 Aug 27 '26

Reviews, from what player? the game has been out for 5 minutes. Don't count critics, magazines and streamers who got it early. Wait for the actual players to write reviews.

3

u/IronVader501 Aug 27 '26

"actual player reviews" are nearly universally useless garbage.

Despite what the internet thinks for some reason, just finding a critic that shares your taste and then listening to that guy is considerably more reliable

2

u/Superiorpen Aug 27 '26

There are plenty of private reviewers that are, at a certain stage of their career, able to take early copies and still remain unbiased.

2

u/vorian_dayne Clone Trooper Aug 27 '26

I’d absolutely adore a game like this set in the Old Republic.

2

u/NyriasNeo Aug 28 '26

I would love a diablo-like star war game.

5

u/LordReagan077 Aug 27 '26

I gotta know if this is worth tryung to convice my dad to let me get. I was turned off at first cause it wasn’t a FPS but turn based but it looks really good

38

u/Nwrecked Aug 27 '26

Young Padawan, there is a big giant world of gaming outside of first person shooters.

5

u/LordReagan077 Aug 27 '26

Yea I know. I play Diablo 3 I dunno if that counts? I must broaden my horizons

5

u/Merusk Aug 27 '26

It does not. There's a wide world of turn-based games that allow deeper thought, strategy and planning. Real-time requires action, reaction and instant decision. It's two different game types and skillsets.

3

u/Dr_barfenstein Aug 27 '26

I suck at FPS lol but I goddamn love xcom & can’t wait to play this. It’s like chess but with guns. When you start pulling deadly combos by linking your troops’ abilities you feel like a god.

1

u/AreYouOKAni Aug 28 '26

Buy XCOM 2 and play that. It's a relatively similar game that is polished as fuck and will run even on a sufficiently advanced toaster. Often goes on sale for like $7, $15 with expansions. You want the expansions, but if budget doesn't allow for them, you can get them later.

If you like it - you will love Z-COM and by the time you are done with XCOM 2 it will probably be like 30% off.

2

u/nathhealor Aug 27 '26

WHY AM I BROKE TODAY OF ALL DAYS

1

u/USSZim Aug 27 '26

I would love a sequel set in the OT where you form a rebel cell

1

u/Known-Emergency5900 Aug 27 '26

I hope we get some good nexus mods

1

u/RBlomax38 Aug 27 '26

I wish this had online co-op like BG3 does

1

u/drpestilence Aug 27 '26

Can't buy it yet but looks to even be a reasonable price which is nice

1

u/farva_06 Aug 27 '26

I'm sitting here at work staring at the play button in Steam. Should've called in sick today.

1

u/i4got872 Aug 27 '26

We need empire at war 2 somehow

1

u/QuirkyWish3081 Aug 27 '26

They could do one in empire era 💪

1

u/GeneralTyler Aug 27 '26

Hopefully this game gets dlc or something, because the campaign is a decent length but not really long. Plus with no official mod support, it’s not gonna have as long of a life span as xcom with all the mods that series has had.

1

u/siarheikaravai Aug 27 '26

Not on steam?

1

u/KowalOX Aug 27 '26

Love Star Wars. Love XCOM. Really pumped to see all these great reviews. Just need to wait until payday...

1

u/FancyKilerWales Aug 27 '26

Rarely preorder games but was happy to after reviews dropped yesterday, these are the games that need support

1

u/clayer77 Aug 27 '26

An Empire at War sequel would be sick

1

u/Tdawg7- Aug 27 '26

My only hope that they optimize it so it can run on steam deck

1

u/BoboTheTalkingClown Aug 27 '26

Ask the Saudis for permission. They own that company now.

1

u/Ditchdigger456 Aug 27 '26

lmao it brings my 5800x and 3080 to it's knees so hard that my keyboard inputs get stuck and swallowed.

would love to actually play it!

1

u/Tokeism Aug 27 '26

Best sales launch for a Star Wars game on steam, I'd expect them to at least have the opportunity of to make a sequel. But game does need performance patches.

1

u/Grytnik Aug 28 '26

I’ve been loving it so far, well done.

1

u/reallymisterj Aug 28 '26

I have been hooked on it today. Plays great.

1

u/SetScary9216 Aug 28 '26

On behalf of the audience we'd love to see it.

1

u/stableGenius_37 Aug 28 '26

Next they can make a baldurs gate/dos type star wars game :) :) :)

1

u/GNOIZ1C Aug 28 '26

let 'em cook!

1

u/LordDaisah Aug 27 '26

I finish work in an hour and a half.

I plan to stay up playing Star Wars until that GTA 6 thing drops on Netflix at 3AM.

1

u/FinishEmbarrassed619 Aug 27 '26

I was excited to buy it until I was reminded that it was EA. See you in 6 months when its ten bucks. Hope the dev doesn't get fd but FEA

1

u/DawnSignals Aug 27 '26

Howabout a shooter then? Maybe it could be like, the third game in a series i dunno

1

u/SodaSnappy Aug 27 '26

I’m a couple hours in so far and having a really good time

1

u/Salt-Wear-1197 Aug 28 '26

Put it on switch 2

-2

u/Jaytrox7893 Aug 27 '26

Anything but making battlefront 3

4

u/Esternaefil Aug 27 '26

Do you think that Bit Reactor would be the team making Battlefront 3?

3

u/Snakebud Aug 27 '26

Apparently yes

0

u/Joe_Spazz Aug 27 '26

Let's let the game actually release first.

-3

u/ULTI_mato Aug 27 '26

To be honest, would have loved to get the game, but i aint giving money to EA

3

u/Adequate_Lizard Luke Skywalker Aug 27 '26

EA hasn't been the sole owner of star wars games in years.

0

u/ULTI_mato Aug 27 '26

Dont care, they still don't get my money and neither does Disney

-8

u/GreatApe88 Aug 27 '26

Why did this game succeed and Outlaws didn’t? Insofar as reception most importantly I’d like to add.

lol. Let’s see the mental gymnastics at work.

6

u/KKilikk Aug 27 '26

These games are not even the same genre? Also not the same devs/company?

9

u/Sports101GAMING Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

One of the main reasons why Outlaws failed was because Ubisoft was in big shit when it came out which hurt it sales a lot.

They kept the same puzzle and stealth aspect with Outlaws like they did with a lot of there other games. It just got repetitive and peope were tired of it

2

u/BearWrangler Cassian Andor Aug 27 '26

This really is one of the biggest factors (aside from the online chuds doing their usual rants about the main character being female, and then complaining that she wasn't "hot enough").

Ppl online really started to do this overly performative anti-Ubisoft dance which was inevitable because of Ubi's track record of bad and/or poor decision making in the last several years.

And it was a shame this happened cuz it was a pretty fun game with a solid & entertaining story that did a great job at building up new places & faces within the Star Wars galaxy(much in line with the "toybox" sentiment of Tony Gilroy) and I personally LOVED the soundtrack.

5

u/WickyGif Aug 27 '26

Way too early to say this game has succeeded.

12

u/Sami_Steen Aug 27 '26

proably main character and the writing of the game

7

u/Forossa Rex Aug 27 '26

We haven’t had a clone wars game in ages

9

u/Dislodged_Puma Aug 27 '26

Quite a lot of factors. I'd say the biggest ones are:

Ubisoft is generally a hated game publisher and developer at this stage. It's a meme to dislike them.

The game came out buggy and since it was already an Ubisoft title, it was not received as well as Zero Company has been.

The main character of Outlaws was female, a grave sin in the darkest corners of the internet. Not as big of a problem as reddit echo chambers would have you believe, but an actual thing that drives negative attention to a game.

Ubisoft was OBNOXIOUS about the game prelaunch, unlike the relatively short cycle of "This is Zero Company" to "We have released Zero Company". I am not sure if many people remember but Ubisoft talked endlessly about how Outlaws was the first "open world Star Wars game" which was untrue and about how amazing it was compared to anything else. It is generally frowned upon to shit upon an entire back catalog of Star Wars games for the sake of promoting your game lol.

6

u/Disco_Ninjas_ Aug 27 '26

There is zero gameplay diversity. It lacks nearly everything that makes Odyssey fun. Playing it just feels so...dull.

0

u/Antique-Coach-214 Aug 27 '26

Which is funny, I got tired of Oddessy because it was fun for 10 hrs.

I missed AC 2 trilogy. Under 30 hours to do 90% of the game, for three games.

I would have enjoyed 3, but… Damn, that snow sucks.

0

u/Disco_Ninjas_ Aug 27 '26

I've got 300 hours in Odyssey. I love that game.

1

u/Antique-Coach-214 Aug 27 '26

Sure, each their own.

I started with AC 1 on launch.

1

u/Disco_Ninjas_ Aug 27 '26

I played the hell out of those games too. I think too many people got caught up on the AC aspect of Odyssey and it made them unable to appreciate it on it's own.

2

u/Antique-Coach-214 Aug 27 '26

I avoided Outlaws due to a lack of time.

Picked it up a few months ago, three things stood out.

1) Writing was bland. My kid doesn’t care, but a number of SW games have solid writing. Not really a girl bad scenario, more of, we didn’t write well.

2) Gameplay was Jank. Ubisoft knows, or knew how to make open world games, third person shooters and solid gun play. This SHOULD have been Black Flag in Space with R6:Vegas cover and shooting. Instead, firing that fire blaster, was so painful, I stopped playing after 4 hours.

3) Ubisoft is crap, as a company. Business practices are anti-consumer, they keep laying people off… I’ve already spent less money in the last 5 years on gaming that I did in any one year, between 2019-2021, and only played Outlaws because I got a deal on PSPlus Premium.

2

u/BasedTelvanni Aug 27 '26

Outlaws was pure shit. Gameplay and storywise.

5

u/TheCatLamp Loth-Cat Aug 27 '26

Forced stealth, open world and lack of character customisation :)

-13

u/4ourthdimension Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

Good - now make them without the murderers & political extremists that are now EA.

EDIT: You ignoramuses know that buying the game still provides your money to EA, right? Keep trying with those 2 brain cells, maybe one day you'll get it.

7

u/CarsonWentzGOAT1 Aug 27 '26

It's made by bit reactor not EA. EA only published it.

2

u/Sports101GAMING Aug 27 '26

EA didn't make this game bud

It's currently mixed on steam with most reviews mentioning DEI characters and writing and poor performance, but I'd expect nothing less (or rather nothing more) from EA.

Anyone that bemoans “DEI” has less than zero credibility to me lol

“DEI” in a space opera with literal aliens. I’ve heard it all now

Once again proving User-reviews are useless garbage

I dont know enough about this game so if anyone could help me real quick. How deep is the strategy in this game and does it allow for creativity? I never played XCom but did play BG3. Is it on par to BG3s build depth and creativeness?

Besides the turn per turn, these are very different games.

In XCOM there's synergy, planning ect...but no crazy broken combos or anything like in BG3. XCOM is more about positioning your characters at the right place to have the best chance at hitting your targets. Cover is at the core of the gameplay and will minimize your chances of getting hit (which is way more scary than in BG3 because your favorite character you have had for 20 missions just got crit and died permanently). I think the fights in XCOM are more stressful and intense in a good way because of that.

Another difference is that unlike BG3, XCOM also has many objectives during missions that can make the fights difficult. Such as planting a bomb and evacuating your squad before it detonates and kill them.

Build wise i would say the classes are more defined with specific roles. You build each character to make them excel at a role to make your squad survive the mission.

Edit: I forgot to mention that there's a whole strategic layer with your base that provide upgrades, buffs, technology ect... through buildings.

How about support the game you just made first? Apparently there are optimization issues on PC

At this point, I’ve got 2 hours in it so far, and it’s been a lot of fun! I love the gameplay, and the customization options are amazing!!!

I did encounter a bug where I got stuck in a chair for a bit, but other than that, the game runs well too!

They had funding pulled right before release and furloughed more than half the team. A buddy of mine lost his job. No wonder they're non committal about fixing technical issues.

Edit: Go ahead dumb people, downvote me for being angry that my friend and a bunch of his colleagues got furloughed.

Can I read about that anywhere? Man I hope they support this, there’s tons of potential for dlc, other eras, sequels

Haha, dude, you beat me to it. I was gonna post a reddit thread discussing this when I got home. Yeah, crazy shit and kinda depressing. In the other thread some of the comments said this is just kind of what small studios do, now. Like, they have no current work for these coders so they’re “furloughed”, not fired, but either way it’s not getting the bills paid.

Xcom2 needed tons of post launch support so I hope they at least kept the bug fixers on the payroll
