I understand the NJPW-only fans who wanted it to be just NJPW vs. NJPW at WK but historically, some of the biggest Dome shows of all time were built around NJPW vs. invaders so seeing this in Japanese newspapers just warms my heart with 90s Japanese wrestling vibes.
I also appreciate that they are using Tsuji's words from earlier in the year to build the right heat for this. Those words got a lot of reaction and to not pay it off somehow is wrestling malpractice I think. Hopefully, we get the right payoff. With Kenny involved and how unselfish he is, I think it is in good hands.

This company is the pioneer of invasion/interpromotional angles, if anything their popularity was built on the back of them. Strong Kobayashi vs Inoki, Ueda joining forces with Singh, Ryuma Go vs Fujinami, IWE remnants, UWF invasion, Beat Takeshi's faction, etc... And that was only during its first two decades of existence, not getting to the 90s yet.
So naturally AEW vs NJPW is the big business for them.

Last year they had Tanahashi's retirement as the big and only draw. This WK they had nothing. Now they have something.
The NJPW only fans don't seem to care much for NJPW's business.

This kind of spotlight I want to see.
Maybe after Tanahashi's retirement lineage, I guess.

Man the Dome is gonna be sick this year. Possible Mox/Shingo, Kenny/Tsuji, MJF/Oiwa (weird but I fuck with Oiwa hard and want to see him murder MJF with the Big Rock), Gabe/Drilla perhaps... maybe more. Newjahadeen hate it but it ain't about them.

I managed to dodge all spoilers until I could finally watch the main event last night and my god, that was just fucking crazy
Omega really is the perfect challenger for Tsuji and the fact he's gonna work with Boltin next month too is the icing on the cake - love the boos for him too, the fans are fully behind Tsuji

So many NJPW talents have signed with AEW this decade, which, if you exclusively watch NJPW, really sucks. You get invested in a talent, and then they suddenly leave. There's no opportunity for older talent to put over newer talent because the departures are so sudden, forced, and not seamless.
Now, there's a new crop of talent that people are excited about and feel legitimate. If Omega, or Ospreay and sooner than later Okada are booked to lose a big bout, it would correct the issue of not having a proper transition between eras. It's an opportunity for AEW stars to give back to a company we know very well they love.
Short term, i get why many NJPW fans are disappointed, you're guaranteed a great match and that's that. But, if they book it correctly, long term everybody will benefit here. I want the Forbidden Door shows to feel more heated, and big name AEW stars losing can make things more interesting.
