False Finish on X: "Before Max Caster accepted Moose's open challenge, sources indicate to False Finish that Sheamus (Stephen Farrelly) was the primary name that TNA was considering for the spot at TNA Bound For Glory"

Was Sheamus aware of this?

Is that THE episode where Punk called him out for a rematch and then said the apology must be loud and as public as the disrespect?
177
u/jaypenn3 7h ago
idk care what his stans say, this was forever a bitch move.
64
51
u/RelativeRemarkable15 4h ago
Then called him a peg warmer for target to a live crowd but said he apologized via text
What was that about the apology needing to be as loud and public as the disrespect, Punk?
41
u/ThisIsKhrox 4h ago
Yeah, Corporate Man Punk is a bit of a hypocrite. I think he used the Target line early in his current WWE run and the crowd was kind of quiet. Turns out AEW style promos don’t do as well with the average WWE fan.
18
u/litthefilter 4h ago
Yeah, he’s tried it a number of times, and every time, it’s to no reaction even when the crowd has otherwise been hot for the promo
14
u/ChucoTeacher 3h ago
WWE fans just want to yeet and speak in catchphrase and hopefully get sold some commercials.
25
u/scootastic23 NeoSolarTemple 4h ago
Yeah the call out knowing hangman was not scheduled to appear was such a bush league play
67
u/ShoryukenFTW 7h ago
Canonically, Hangman didn't come out because he was busy coaching the Dark Order at leapfrog, as seen on BTE.
35
u/BytesFromTheCrypt 6h ago
That bit was incredible. Someone busted in and was like "Hanger! Someone's calling you out to the ring!" And he was just like "Shut the fuck up we're doing something here!"
67
u/The_Dark_Soldier 7h ago
Yes
66
u/jamersonMD 7h ago
It's such a carny move 😭 there's nothing else like pro wrestling man
75
u/TheGumbyGyarados 6h ago
I think the funnier one was way later on after he came back and we had punk on collision and after the show went off the air once, he just started calling hangman a peg warmer unprovoked.
He’s a weird individual
60
u/TheGiftOf_Jericho I'm from Winnipeg you idiot! 6h ago
For his age and career, he does have a surprisingly fragile ego.
64
u/ABoyWithNoBlob 6h ago
Don't forget his fragile body, weak mind, and weak spirit.

u/jamersonMD 6h ago
Was that when he said nobody wants to buy Hangman toys? LOOOL that era of Collision was something else.
He was only on it for 2 months yet he was beefing with Young Bucks, Hangman, Jack Perry and Ryan Nemeth. Matt Hardy was also banned for some reason as well
4
u/imdeadinside1245 5h ago
still find it very telling he threw hands with everyone except for hangman
2
u/UsidoreTheLightBlue 3h ago
He also referred to the “counterfeit bucks”…..immediately after they agreed to work with him if he could just not be a prick for a bit.
2
u/TheGumbyGyarados 2h ago
I mean at that point he probably just wanted to leave anyway and it was a tv promo that got people talking. Petty but i can at least understand it.
The hangman one is just funny to me because it was the post show dark segment and calling someone a peg warmer is such a dumb internet insult not something id expect from a top talent.
0
u/UsidoreTheLightBlue 2h ago
I think that’s my issue with counterfeit bucks, it’s not scathing and it’s not funny. It’s a very “Vince” insult.
37
u/DarkFalcon49 Yuta and Francesco Akira Fan Club Leader 7h ago
I remember that and thinking how weird it was Hanger didn’t come out and fire back.

u/DryYourHollowEyes 7h ago
The ol’ Shawn calls out Bret knowing he’s not backstage
21
u/janemba617 5h ago
Saw someone once describe Punk as someone who thinks he's 1990's Brett Hart but in reality is 1990's HBK minus the drugs.
16
4
u/madeaccountbymistake 4h ago
This reminds me of something
I just learned that iconic superkick that knocked bret into the wheelchair happened after raw went off the air. So Raw ended with a long bret hart promo (That was honestly kinda shit but that just opinion) where bret just shits all over Shawn and Shawn just stands there and looks mad but does literally nothing about it. It also goes on for a quite a bit after Raw goes off the air and Bret is kinda just repeating himself.
Shawn preceded to accuse Bret of purposefully going over time so the show would end with him insulting Shawn instead of the superkick.

u/Patient-Warning-4451 7h ago
Its happened to him before.
The story of him not being in his usual "body" was because he only find out the week before RAW that he was coming back to RAW. He only found out watching RAW.

Fuck's sake, TNA.
94
u/Competitive-Object-4 7h ago
Realistically, probably would’ve cost more than the show’s revenue to book him
37
u/JustATributeCC René Dupree Can Suck A Dick 7h ago
Wouldn't put it past them. This company's so fucking dumb.
-20
u/ImmaDoWatIWant 7h ago
The companies dumb for not paying for someone they couldn't afford?
18
u/JustATributeCC René Dupree Can Suck A Dick 7h ago
No, considering it if they couldn't afford him. But again, with some of the fuck-ass decisions the company has made over the past couple years, it wouldn't surprise me if they considered it.
-2
u/mjac1090 5h ago
Or, they considered it, found out how much it would cost and decided to not try. That's how things are supposed to work
-2
u/Select-Occasion7196 3h ago
Don't try to bring logic to these people. They're not capable of seeing the forest for the trees.
23
u/The_Dark_Vampire 7h ago
The reason he left WWE is they wanted him to take a pay cut even if that pay cut was say 60% and 40% of what WWE were paying still hell of a lot more than TNA can afford to pay.
Its not even like he had a past there or big connection with someone there so he would be willing to work cheap for one match as a favour.
14
u/phantominway 7h ago
Tbf, part of it is the principle of not taking such a large cut during record profit years
-12
u/ImmaDoWatIWant 7h ago
How do you know? As far as I know he hasn't spoken about it.
3
u/phantominway 2h ago
Imagine you are doing x amount of work for y amount of money. Now, imagine your boss says he is cutting that money by over half. Anyone with any self respect would walk away in that situation
14
69
u/Old-Egg-1231 Smokey the cat fan 7h ago
That may have been what they wanted, sure but he must have said no because even TNA isn’t dumb enough to choose Caster over Sheamus.
40
u/Purplesilk911 7h ago
That'd be as dumb as asking AJ to take a pay cut
7
u/Baratheoncook250 7h ago edited 7h ago
Don't forget as soon as Dutch was fired, Knockout division started having terrible booking(like Hamada).
8
u/Ok_Price7529 7h ago
I can see why they wanted Sheamus, he is a big star and I guarantee him vs Moose would have been a banger with 2 big guys knocking lumps out of each other.
6
u/Intelligent-Till-678 5h ago
I am sure TNA wanted him. Just like they wanted LeBron to show up. It's the paying part TNA can't do.
8
u/fttxdd666 7h ago
The way the post is worded I sorta imagined it that Sheamus was going to answer it but then Max just hijacked it and TNA decided to roll with it lmao
5
u/__Hello_my_name_is__ 7h ago
Yeah, the comments here are strange.
Obviously they considered him, asked him, and it didn't work out, so they went to Caster.
None of this is weird or worthy of mockery.
-10
u/nicebodythere 7h ago
That's a good way to put it. It just reveals how many assholes there are on here while reinforcing that most people find themselves much more amusing than everyone else does
49

Huge miss here by TNA. I would have loved to hear Sheamus doing some freestyle.

u/Cwf1984 7h ago edited 7h ago
It feels like ‘considered’ is doing a lot of work here.
Given how quickly TNA put together the open challenge, the announcement of Max Caster as the opponent, etc it felt very put together last moment.
If Sheamus were ever in actual consideration I’d hope they’d put much more thought into it than that.
But it is TNA, so who knows
10
10
u/fttxdd666 7h ago
Honest to god this sounds like a PR move by TNA. Like “hey we were gonna go with this guy but couldn’t work it out so we went with someone else last minute, sorry about that guys!”
Plus by mentioning Sheamus it can sway the attention to him and this rather than Max’s rap and firing
1
u/puddingpanda944 2h ago
I can imagine considered, found out how much it cost then no longer considered.

There is no universe where Sheamus said yes, nor where he said yes and then they went with Max instead

Can you imagine if they had considered Stone Cold or The Rock? wow, I just got goosebumps.
2
u/FigureFourWoo Ric Flair was still cool when I chose this username. 4h ago
Those are the kind of possibilities that really make you think.
5
u/thepirateman493_YT 7h ago
If this is true, that is a HUGE mistake. Sheamus would have been, still could, be huge for TNA. Caster... well, that has already sailed.
4
u/viralbop 7h ago
"Our choices are Hank Aaron and Mario Mendoza for this at-bat. Any strong opinions either way?"

They probably considered him first, got word of his asking price and moved on. TNA isn’t exactly swimming in money.

I like the implication that Caster filmed the video and tna, not knowing how wrestling actually works, just assumed they had no other choice.

If Sheamus was an option for them as opposed to Caster, then they’re dumb as rocks

False Finish is talking too much about things they don't know...
2
u/Thedinosaurwizard 7h ago
Do you have, or are you claiming to be, a better source?

I am saying everyone should wait for a better source. I'm not impressed.

-1
u/AmountNew2152 7h ago
I'm just saying False Finish isn't credible. Directly.
3
u/Thedinosaurwizard 7h ago
Okay. Cory broke the Bellas returning, Woods and Kofi departing WWE, and a good handful of other stuff, so would you care to say why you don't think he's credible here or are you just going to vaguepost?
-1
u/AmountNew2152 7h ago
I'm not here to argue. The statement is the statement.
2
u/Thedinosaurwizard 7h ago
So vagueposting, got it. We'll just ignore that he's been right about everything else in this story so far and take your word for it

I am not invested in this conversation as much as you are. But False Finish isn't credible. Enjoy your day.

Let him go to TNA. There REALLY isn’t a need to have him in AEW. They have ENOUGH past-WWE guys.
5
u/Deducticon 7h ago
People said that before New Level.
0
u/American-Punk-Dragon 7h ago
They are different. Sheamus is washed.
I don’t tune into AEW to see washes. Unless he wants to throw him into ROH and give us Athena back FOREVER ON TV!!
3
u/Janky_Welles 7h ago
I don't care about Sheamus one way or another but by all accounts he was the least washed he's been in his whole career in the past year or two
