False Finish on X: Sources tell False Finish that TNA will no longer be working with Max Caster. Caster’s freestyle included a line about him dropping bombs and not having to fly to Riyadh. The line raised eyebrows both within TNA and its partners globally.

See, I’d like to say “of course,” but it’s TNA. It’s equally likely they didn’t
(In fairness, it’s also possible they told him no and he did it anyway)
266
u/lucasd11 11h ago
Almost equally as likely that they didn't at all as they did and thought nothing of the potential ramifications so his rap got greenlit by the producers. Then they see the fall out and of course they aren't going to take the blame so it just comes back to "well we got rid of the problem nothing to see here"
273
u/theirishembassy CSS / design mod. 11h ago
yeah.. the options are:
someone green lit that, and he got thrown under the bus for someone saying it was ok.
no one green lit and he was just allowed to go out and say whatever.
someone said no, and they just trusted the guy who was notorious for some cutting lines without a 5 second delay.
one of these options makes max look bad (ie: they trusted him not to drop a line like that and just never though to put any guardrails in place) but all 3 make TNA look like.. well.. TNA.

At least when he started getting in trouble in AEW Tony Khan took responsibility for letting him go out without clearing his lines and started making him get approval first.
71
u/Awkwardphase06 11h ago
his final rap entrance was him rapping about kamala, mexican talent, sanctuary cities, and ice. They had to heavily edit it. That’s when Tony told him no more and he didn’t get to do his raps after that.
24
u/blaqsupaman Big Dick Dudley 11h ago
I didn't know that. It sounds like he was just saying whatever he wanted even when Tony or one of the other producers said no. I kind of get why they separated him and Bowens. I really liked Bowens and he was good at pretty much every aspect of being a wrestler on paper, but he just never got over as a singles guy for some reason.
54
u/poop_snausages 10h ago
It sucks because even if they didn't directly punish Bowens for the shit Max was doing, it still hurt him quite a bit.
I agree with you that Bowens is good at everything. Unfortunately for him, trying to get over with a gimmick that's essentially "I'm really really good at wrestling" in a company with Kenny Omega, Bryan Danielson, Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay, Konosuke Takeshita, Bandido, Swerve, etc. etc. is gonna be nearly impossible.

His raps worked better with the flow of his AEW theme. Any other raps set to different beat tempo and music, just doesn't work. It's like he's layering the lyrics over the music but it's intended for a different audio clip.

I think he deliberately does it like that to make it more like a promo and make sure the audiences can follow along easily. Especially if the music isn't in his ear and he has to catch the beat based on the arena sound
John Cena once was marveling that Max Caster could rap to a beat at all, he had to do his as a spoken word precisely because of those challenges

I do not understand hiring Max if this is not what you wanted. I'm pro-Max Caster and I wasn't offended in the slightest by this rap. But regardless of my taste versus others, his rap character work is known for bringing this type of response...and if you're hiring him, you SHOULD want that. This is what his craft is and what he's known for. Either they weren't actually paying attention or weren't brave enough to deal with the type of reaction that can bring out.
All I can say is Max's rap was the first thing I looked for coming out of the PPV. I couldn't give two shits about TNA past seeing more Max. So bye bye!

Not even TNA could last five minutes in the ring with the greatest wrestler alive.

Cant wait for the next story to be about how they didnt know what he would say.
The guy lost his arrival match..it wasn't gonna be a long term affair.

Josh Alexander lost his AEW arrival match to Hangman Page but is still working there. Doing a job to a top marquee talent day one isn’t necessarily a black mark in wrestling nowadays.
