Terry loves cross-promotional synergy almost as much as he loves yoghurt

This is definitely the most important day in Terry's life!

Even more than his wedding day and when his twin daughters were born!

I remember watching this. I had no idea what Battle Dome was. Still don't really. I was so confused on who these guys were. Don't really recall much after this

It was a entertaining show. It was syndicated and aired on the weekends (the local Fox channel in my city). It only lasted one or two seasons though. I'm going to have to re-watch some of it on YouTube.

I explained it to people as Attitude Era American Gladiators.

That’s a dam good description, WMAC masters was also kind of like martial arts meets WWF. I loved WMAC master watched Battle Dome a bit but not as into it

WMAC evolved out of an idea Vince McMahon had but didn't end up going forward with.

Vince did have a similar martial arts meets wrestling idea in 93 but I think WMAC developed separately from that. Both Vince and the people behind WMAC were inspired by the popularity of Mortal Kombat

I was way older for the Demo, but I loved WMAC Masters.

In my part of the world, it came on late at night on Fridays and The Cindy Margolis Show came on after it. Needless to say that 90 minutes was appointment setting TV for 13 year old me.

It was American Gladiators mixed with gimmick characters

Basically a cross between American Gladiators and WMAC Masters. Was syndicated on Sundays when I was a kid. It was fun.

I actually watched Battle Dome around this time and did NOT expect some sort of crossover. I was very surprised but remember Terry Crews was the one Battle Dome guy I thought had it. Was very surprised to learn it was Terry Crews after he starts blowing up.

I'm just watching the Raw Nitro review featuring this specific episode

This was the last time WCW came on my radar as a wrestling fan before they got bought by WWF. I had stopped watching WCW around the summer of 99. I had started to be more 50/50 with WWF/WCW at the beginning of 99 after being dam near 100% WCW from 96 through 98.

But by the summer of 99 my attention was mostly on WWF and a little on ECW. The Hogan return to red and yellow was the last WCW thing I remember watching live or shortly after it happened.

From the fall of 99 to the fall of 00 I hardly heard about WCW at all. Then randomly I caught a syndicated episode of Battle Dome and they had this WCW crossover. I was almost like dam this is the low rent stuff WCW is up to?

About 5 months later I saw that WWF was buying them I was very sad as WCW was a big part of my childhood but I also was not shocked given how far they had falled

It's always fun to hear from others when they stopped watching WCW. Mine was probably around the Fingerpoke of Doom, maybe a little earlier. I remember the Fingerpoke because of the whole "put butts in seats" thing with Mankind winning the belt, which I watched. I remember switching back and forth and then just watching WWF.

I completely missed Hogan switching back to the red & yellow and the downward spiral until the last Nitro.

The Fingerpoke of Doom is when WCW creatively fell off a cliff. But the ratings took a few months afterwards to fall off, the first few months of 99 WCW while firmly behind Raw was still holding a strong 4 rating. It wasn’t until April 99 when WCW was starting to go from firm but respectable second place to very distant second place hitting a 3-3.3 rating average.

Personally I was still into WCW in that spring but I think around June/July I was firmly 70/30 WWF and then that August was kind of the last month I paid attention even a little bit to WCW. By the fall of 99 it was just full force Attitude era.

I recognized Crews as an actor when this happened. It's up there with Robert Wuhl appearing in character as Arliss.

Battle Dome was so sick man. I wish more kayfabe things like that would have caught on.

Battle Dome is such a collection of 2000s era That Guys: Scott Ferrall who did play-by-play for the short-lived Atlanta Thrashers hockey team, Mike O'Hearn who would later be on the American Gladiators reboot hosted by Hulk Hogan, and the Dahm Triplets.

T-Money should get more credit from being a wrestler to being a big time Hollywood star.

Huh, I never knew Terry Crews appeared in WCW.

u/rbhindepmo IT'S NOT HOT 14h ago

You know someone in the vault occasionally struggles to summarize episodes of wrestling TV in a YouTube video title. This might have been a week where they decided “let’s just get Terry Crews fans to watch this episode of 2000 WCW”

Mike O'Hearn was also one of the Battle Dome guys.

As someone who was watching during these dying days, when I think of WCW 2000, THIS is exactly the shit I think of.

I think I was one of the handful of people who actually watched Battle Dome. supposed to be an edgier American Gladiators. was shocked seeing them show up on Nitro.
