“I won’t vote Democrat because they were the Southerners supporting slavery.” Because you know, we’re completely incapable of recognizing when things have shifted.
58
u/maringue Jul 28 '26
My favorite question: "If Republicans freed the slaves, then why are Republicans so against a holiday celebrating when they freed the slaves?"
15
u/BankOnITSurvivor Jul 29 '26
In their defense, aren’t they against any holidays that would benefit the poors?
12
u/KeithWorks Jul 29 '26
It's amazing that the rich people convinced the poor people that we shouldn't have more holidays.
9
u/Karlinel-my-beloved Jul 29 '26
Fun part is how U.S. Republicans want people EVERYWHERE to be miserable. Like, bitch why don’t you isolate yourself and leave the world alone?
2
u/Way2happyguy Jul 30 '26
I like to point out what specific moments in modern history set the parties up as they are today. Two major events. The Great Depression and the Civil Rights Movement. The Great Depression established the Republican party as the party that will protect companies and tell people suffering to figure it the eff out. The Civil Rights Movement completed the party shift. That's when all southern voters began supporting Republicans because Republicans opposed it and Democrats supported it so Republican voters started voting Democrat.
1
u/sdob66 Jul 31 '26
you may want to go back to school relearn your history! The Civil Rights Act would not have passed without the majority of Republicans voting for it! Democrats actually filibustered the CRA, it was the longest filibuster ever.
1
u/Way2happyguy Aug 01 '26
Yes, a minority of politicians opposed the civil rights act. It was unpopular with southerners and the Republican party seized that momentum in the following years. They opposed anti-discrimination bills that followed. The following elections, Republicans courted to their white Southern voting base that they wanted and then white Southern voters stopped voting Democrat and started voting Republican. It wasn't a shift in Democrat and Republican politicians switching parties, it was a shift in the voting base.
As you see how states vote today, like the north east and south, it was the opposite before the civil rights movement. Southern states that voted Democrat now vote Republican but began after the civil rights act passed. North East states that voted Republican now Democrat.

Is this really a gotcha though? OK, NACA did import some former Nazi's to work on the space program. Do they have active Nazi's working there in 2026?

Werner Von Braun? Is there a Werner Von Braun here?
4
u/iamjohnhenry Jul 28 '26
“Once the rockets are up,
who cares where they come down?
That’s not my department,”
Says Werner von Braun.1
u/DiaperDonnieTrump Jul 28 '26
No, but I was with him when he invented going to the moon back in 1943. It was huge. People from all over the place thanked me. I’ve never seen things like that ever before. In fact, I don’t think anybody has ever been thanked as many times as I’ve been thanked. Hold on, I have to poop.

u/Haipul Jul 28 '26
I'd rather support a public organisation that once hired some dodgy people, that a private company owned by a nazi

Hired a nazi? SpaceX was founded by a nazi
1
u/DBDude Jul 31 '26
Someone you like to call a Nazi vs. an actual SS officer and Nazi party member. Big difference.
1
u/the-National-Razor Jul 31 '26
Why do you think they "like to call" him a nazi?
1
u/DBDude Jul 31 '26
These days, anyone someone on the left doesn’t like is a Nazi.
1
u/the-National-Razor Jul 31 '26
Are you aware of any reasons they call musk a Nazi?

There’s a difference between renowned German scientists who happened to be in Germany in the 40s and contemporary white supremacists.
1
u/Plastic_Key_4146 Jul 29 '26
Several were confirmed to be former members of the nazi party, including the SS or the SA.
1
u/mrkjmsdln_new Jul 31 '26
If you don't believe that, read the transcripts of the interview with slave labor that built V-2 rockets under the ultimate direction of Von Braun at Mittelwerk. Only about 20K of them died in horrible conditions out of the 60K involved so only a 33% chance of death. Those were the good odds with the 'good' Nazis I guess.

Jesus pantysniffing Christ. There is a bit of a difference between giving an ex-Nazi an offe Mr he can’t refuse and letting a Nazi run the show and impose Nazi values.
1
u/KlutzySherbert260 Jul 29 '26
You’ll be surprised…. The space program exclusively hired them through operation paperclip after ww2…. Best start not liking rockets and medicine for that matter most of your breakthroughs were from experiments during ww2 performed by them
1
u/mrkjmsdln_new Jul 31 '26
After the War it was a race to the bottom between the Soviet Union and the US. Get Nazi war scientists and qualify them for entry in nearly every case. When the US and Soviets had early encounters in the Korean War the 'newest breakthrough jets' were remarkably similar. They were Nazi Germany derivative designs. The reality is the whole era reduces to sure he's an SOB but he's our SOB. For those interested one was the F-86 Sabre and the other was the MIG-15. Remarkably similar aircraft designs. Even all the early stealth aircraft were rooted in Nazi designs. All of those scientists got a rubberstamp with Operation Paperclip. They were our SOBs.
1
u/KlutzySherbert260 Jul 31 '26
The book Area 51 is a good read, it goes into Roswell and the whole stealth program including scientists obtained out of Germany by Russia and the US

I wholeheartedly agree. I help run a history bookclub. I have now read a number of Annie's books including Area 51 and Operation Paperclip and one other. She is a talented researcher and writer!!! Great recommendation.

Oh no, SS Sturmbannführer Wernher von Braun (NSDAP registration 5,738,692) willingly worked for the Third Reich to get the resources to develop his rockets.
Of course, “for”? He was an SS officer, so he was himself the Third Reich.

1

look up Wernher von Braun
1
u/Rambo_sledge Jul 31 '26
Yeah so ? I’m not dismissing anything.
I’m just saying calling spaceX nazi in favor of nasa which hires spaceX is dumb, even without looking precisely into the workers
1
u/Daxosc Jul 31 '26
All the republicans I know celebrate Juneteenth, y’all need to touch grass and stop living in your own bubble. And yeah NASA hired a bunch of Nazi’s after WW2, Nazi’s brought to Oregon to live thought they had gone to heaven. Some of your relatives might actually be Nazi’s. I know mine aren’t, we killed Nazi’s and got medals for it.

Someone doesn’t know their history.
America took in most of the top Nazi scientists, even those that committed atrocities, and set them up for a rich life in ‘Merica.
Just like America was the one that contributed, or in reality, created the banana republics.
Look up United Fruit and Guatemala.
The Secretary of Defense, and CIA chief (Dulles brothers) worked as attorneys for United Fruit for decades, held board positions and huge amounts of stock. They’d set up and helped a democratically elected Guatemalan president get deposed because it was making United Fruit less money and taxing it justly.
Same things happened in Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Colombia, and Panama.

The difference is those Nazis working for NASA weren’t allowed to do the Seig Heil in public.
