Cave diving is such a dangerous thing to do, that the best experts are literally hobbyists; people who willingly, for fun, participate in one of the most lethal activities a person can do. That particular rescue was considered so dangerous that Thai Navy seals did not do the whole dive; the only people who managed to reach those kids were a group of (mostly british) hobbyists.
It was a six-hour dive. Three hours to reach those kids, and three hours back. They did that daily, over and over again. until all the kids were out. They had to drug those kids with a concoction of several anesthetics to keep them still. The drugs would begin to wear off at around the halfway point, so the divers had to then take a moment to inject the sedated kids with a new shot, while cave diving.
The amount of skill, patience, bravery, and physical fitness to be able to undertake this rescue was literally superhuman almost.
