Only if they find out.

Yes, but this is not that. This is daughter-father banter.

Please tell my mom that

Sounds like Lenard from big bang theory

u/Samaein Sep 09 '26

Breaking ethics with your family is fair game when they're assholes lol

11

u/amitym Sep 09 '26

That's practically the first thing they teach you in university-level psych ethics.

u/Samaein Sep 09 '26

Oh well

Update the curiculum lol

Is it actually his daughter?

Or is it a simulation?

u/keithstonee Sep 09 '26

Take a look around. The world isnt ethical anymore.

6

u/free_terrible-advice Sep 09 '26

Anymore? If you studied psychology you'd be well aware it never has been...

u/keithstonee Sep 09 '26

so there just zero gradient to how shit stuff is. it can both have always been shit while getting shittier.

Also a psych degree does not make you a psychologist. I have a bachelor's in psych. My wife has a master's in psych. I went into sales and did nothing with my degree. She got licenced and has been a professional psychologist for 20+ years.

I know this is just a joke post, but it drive me nuts when people think that psychology is all Freudian and Rogerian couch sessions. It's mostly boring statistical math to be honest 🫀

I have a bachelor's of psychology as well and am a kitchen designer. My coworker has an interior decorating degree so we joke that she is the design expert and I'm the marriage counselor that dabbles in design.

Could you imagine.

Customer: "I don't think I'm gonna buy this".

Sales: "Why not?"

Customer: "My old family had this brand and my mother didn't like it"

Sales: "Really? Tell me more about your childhood with a disagreeable parent. First, when you were a child, did you want to sabotage your father to get the physical love from your mother?"

I’m a data scientist, masters in biostats, but my psychology undergrad comes up in my senior AI development role all the time. Understanding logic, thought, fallacies and heuristic tendency has been invaluable in my career honestly.

I have an MA in linguistics and work in healthcare research AS a linguist, my job title has the word 'linguist' in it, and there are definitely people in my grad program who say I'm not a linguist because I didn't move onto my PhD. My MA and my actual job title having 'linguistics' is irrelevant to them, it is PhD or bust. It used to really frustrate me but now I don't care as much. I'm a 'fake' linguist getting paid to do linguistics all day. They act like it's claiming to be a lawyer or a doctor to say my own job title.

u/LinguistsDrinkIPAs Sep 09 '26

What do you do exactly, if you don’t mind me asking? My MA and BA are both in linguistics and I currently work in healthcare!

2

u/whiff_EK Sep 09 '26

It is literally just the field of healthcare linguistics. Lots of conversational analysis, in-office behavior assessment, discourse analysis, some patient social media analyis, I've done analysis on donated video diaries and patient journals, etc. Healthcare linguistics IS the field.

That's a bit rough, what you learn on psych pretty hard. You do learn a lot about yourself and others. True that it's not professional level, but it is still a lot.

Psych is an amazing backup degree in my opinion as it will generally make you a better person πŸ™‚

"Subject is partially aware. Recommend moving subject off world."

7

u/According-Ad-5946 Sep 09 '26

Is she messing with him? or is he really a case study.

33

u/PANTERlA Sep 09 '26

She's messing with him. You wouldnt say that out loud even if you were doing a hidden study. Also you wouldnt do a serious study on people you know this close. Can't be unbiased.

4

u/KlangScaper Sep 09 '26

You generally cant run a study on people without then knowing. Informed consent is a must to get through any ethics board.

3

u/Difficult-Bobcat-857 Sep 09 '26

She's just picking at him. It's funny!

2

u/Equivalent_Memory3 Sep 10 '26

Ahem. People are 'participants ' animals are 'subjects.' She is obviously trying to dehumanize the individual and should be reported to the IRB. Plus, no snacks for rewards.

2

u/Icy-KaitSyth Sep 10 '26

🀣🀣🀣 That's peak comedy. She needs to do a night of stand up on the side.

4

u/Mestizo-Play Sep 09 '26

YES! πŸ˜†
I would be so proud of my daughter for that one. I’d have to give her a high-five.

u/PaigeGirl1 Sep 09 '26

Sorry but I suspect he made up that she said that

2

u/Zweefkees93 Sep 10 '26

That's some quick thinking :)
