That’s adorable. I hope they’re married now
534
u/99drix May 19 '26
They would be but he forgot to ask
288
u/Charming-Refuse-5717 May 19 '26
"Hey so I'm thinking a spring wedding, what weekend do you think would work best?"
"Wait, are we engaged?"
"...shit not again"
96
u/Alizaea May 19 '26
The wife then gets him back:
"Hey so I was thinking about a winter birth, what name would work best?"
"Wait, we are having a child?!"
"Yes, for the 15th time, we are having a child...."
79
u/930310 May 19 '26
One would think they'd learn after 14 kids.
17
u/Alizaea May 19 '26
Well you would think that the husband would have learned after the years of forgetting to ask the serious questions to ask the serious questions, but here we are 😂
4
u/Sehrli_Magic May 20 '26
nah this makes sense. after 15 kids you would be inso much stress constantly that even non forgetful prson would be forgetting where their own head is 😂 source: i only have two..used to be a genius (have papers to prove that) and now i forget EVERYTHING 😭
9
u/Alizaea May 19 '26
Also, I was meaning "15th time" telling him they are having a child, not their 15th child 😂

Man, this self-censorship shit is really getting on my nerves. How bad can a word be? Shit? Fuck?? That's it.
831
u/Wooden_Adeptness_136 May 19 '26
it drives me fucking nuts! just swear! say suicide and murder and pedophile! fuck shit poo ass arse cunt.
175
u/Thesource674 May 19 '26
Its because of algorithms and how things get displayed thats it. People just gaming the system, no one is actually offended by the words.
83
u/IgnatiusRileyFreeman May 19 '26
This; people should blame the corporations that surpress those words, not the people trying to communicate under censorship
43
u/Fakjbf May 19 '26
Except people wildly overestimate how much censorship there is. This is the perfect example, a Tumblr post which is then posted to Reddit neither of which give a shit about swearing and yet here we are.
29
u/Suspicious_Ice_3160 May 19 '26
No but you see, this was scraped from tumblr for TikTok, someone then scraped it off TikTok for Reddit. At least, that’s what I assume.
16
u/Expensive-Border-869 May 19 '26
Yeah maybe we ought to stop doing that. Collectively downvote anything with some sort of censorship down to the gutters of the internet. These are content farms. These posts arent even posted by a person it doesnt matter if they have flesh and blood theyre a bot they dont think for themselves they are not capable of it and they deserve to suffer for ruining the internet
→ More replies (1)1
u/GoldEnPhARoAh22 May 20 '26
At this point, noone is thinking anything new. It's like 300k tweets and shit getting scraped from one site to the next, all bound for their eventual death when the pixel count depletes into the single digit and the meme gets sent to some subreddit like r/moldymemes or something
4
u/Name_Taken_Official May 19 '26
Yeah and OP absolutely went to Tumblr dot com to screenshot a post, then decided it would be posted to reddit and only reddit so they had to edit it. That's what happened.
3
u/terminbee May 19 '26
Yup. It's ridiculous when people are like, "I once got a warning/automod ban for swearing on ____ sub so now I have to censor myself at all times." Like wtf? If I got banned for that, I'd just stop using that sub.
I got banned from pics for saying not all Palestinians are Hamas/terrorists and I haven't been back since.
1
u/KOT-The-Panda May 20 '26
For people like me and you your right. But for content creators they do have to censor themselves because if they don’t their bottom line is affected. And because content creators are doing it there is a cultural trickle down effect happening
7
u/DepartureNo1720 May 19 '26
They can communicate just fine while cussing. Their desire to have their post potentially go viral outweighs their desire to communicate without self-censoring.
2
6
May 19 '26
I'm not going to pretend to be offended by normal everyday words to appease an AI censor-bot, and I genuinely lose respect for people who do.
6
u/DraconianFlame May 19 '26
I should make a master post, but here we go again.
No it isn't. No one is gaming any system. Not YouTube, not TicTok, not Reddit. Social media Algorithms do not have simple word checking blocks.
1) it makes no sense if you think about it for 2 seconds. The algorithm can find "Kill" but not "k*LL"?
2) words can mean different things. "I'm going to kill you" vs "He's playing a new instrument and killing it"
3) There is not a single study showing that self censoring has any affect on removals, shadow bans, etc.
Caveat: There actually are single word bans but these relate almost entirely to hardcore pornographic material.
10
u/ryobiguy May 19 '26
I would be surprised if the algo did image to text, but who knows.
24
u/Thesource674 May 19 '26
It absolutely can. My android can pull text from even dark blurry ass pictures, with pretty decent accuracy and it can perfectly break down a well lit receipt into a format where every piece of text is selectable.
Its why you have seen this sudden censor trend, the only reason, creators notice videos with swear words in print started not appearing correctly compared to ones without. So people still DO want to cuss, but also want their sweet sweet clout. Its a very simple situation. And stupid top to bottom.
4
2
u/BluEch0 May 19 '26
It’s not even always about clout. Some people have livelihoods that depend on that slight wording change. Makes the difference between having a usual or growing income vs suddenly having to pinch pennies that month.
1
u/redbirdjazzz May 19 '26
Are these blurry ass pictures of tattooed asses? Otherwise, your phone pulling text from them is a little weird.
2
3
u/Qules_LP May 19 '26
This is actually a very common false belief. Here Etymology Nerd has a great shirt explaining this How algorithm censorship actually works.
5
u/FUPAMagneto May 19 '26
It’s because people are more interested in going viral than effectively communicating. If people wouldn’t self-censor, the algorithm would have to adapt.
But that’s too hard and y’all hate the idea that your own actions could have consequences beyond yourself.
5
u/NotATalkingPossum May 19 '26
I got hammered by Reddit's autoban bots for quoting Crow T. Robot once. The algorithm will do what the people who made it tell it to do, and it doesn't particularly care about your opinion or your ability to express it.

u/The-Page-Turner May 19 '26
The only people offended by those words are advertisers who refuse to show their ads over profanity
So blame capitalism

1
u/Commercial_Win_9525 May 19 '26
Oh they are. Many times I’ve had the Reddit trigger word and pc police come for me.
1
u/Expensive-Border-869 May 19 '26
Nah fuck that. If youre gaming the system you like it being there. If you choose to interact with it like this is some sort of job that matters them just eat cold food youre not a human being anyways
1
u/gravitas_shortage May 19 '26
No, that's just cargo culting. If Google cared about those words, the generally pathetic attempts at self-censorship would be trivially defeated.
1
u/Bastago May 20 '26
It's not just algorithm but also on some progressive spaces I got heavily shunned for saying rape/pedo/murder and stuff without censoring them for some reason before lol.
This was a thing way before the algorithm's involvement.
1
u/t0rnberry May 20 '26
I guess the divide in accepting this is also the one between posting stuff online for catharsis/your connections to see vs posting stuff to go viral/public reach.

u/GreyWarden_Amell May 19 '26
People would prefer to do that, but unfortunately due to algorithms on social medias if people want to get any traction they are forced to censor themselves. The old fucks in charge of these algorithms are assholes like that
5
u/Emphursis May 19 '26
Then maybe they should stop focusing on ‘getting traction’.
3
1
u/pimohell9254 May 19 '26
the posts from people focusing on "getting traction" are precisely the ones that will bubble up to the top of your feed
→ More replies (1)1
u/Taraxian May 19 '26
If they don't get traction then you don't see the post and you can't get mad about the censorship in it, you only see the posts that do get traction
3
u/FUPAMagneto May 19 '26
“I’d communicate effectively, but I wanna be an influencer!”
Fucking Christ, we’re so screwed
2
u/Qules_LP May 19 '26
This is actually a very common false belief. Here Etymology Nerd has a great shirt explaining this How algorithm censorship actually works.
For YouTube case, it looks for patterns. If for example you do educational or lifestyle content, and people interested in those topics actually watch you, the YouTube algorithm reasonably conclude it doesn't promote harmful ideas even if the words were said.
3
u/Simpanzee0123 May 19 '26
About a month ago I quoted what a woman said to me back in the day involving the words "k*ll yourself" and I got a temporary ban and warning from Reddit... I guess the automated system flagged it as me telling someone else to do that.
I don't like it either but the dumbass filters on platforms and the complete lack of recourse or accountability are the cause.

5
u/theummeower May 19 '26
These are bot posts. Advertisers don’t want their name next to bad words.
This is how Reddit makes it money now.
They literally just recycle old content that they know people engage with so that ads are guaranteed to have certain viewer amount.
Reddit was never a great content creation site by design. It’s a curator. Remember for the literal first decade of its existence Reddit did not self host images. You literally had to link to other sites to post an image (ie Imgur)
That changed in 2016. So now Reddit just uses data to recirculate the same images to get the same talking points that have continually gained viewership.
They even go as far as to see how many times something can be reposted before it becomes too stale.

u/PerformerFancy117 May 19 '26

1
u/GhulOfKrakow May 19 '26
I don't think so, because the censorship doesn't seem to be in the original post and the op would likely be the only one to care about the name. Besides, given its brevity and the context, it would be at most be a first name which wouldn't really matter much either.
1
u/Prophonicx May 19 '26
Its not. The word is “shit” and this is a 13 year old text post from tumblr.
1

57
u/EarthAndSawdust May 19 '26
So this is actually important still? As a Euro I genuinely thought it only to be an american '80 an '90s movies thing.
69
u/ChaosofaMadHatter May 19 '26
Yeah, prom is still pretty major for most American high schoolers. It’s one of those staples that sticks around.
25
u/EarthAndSawdust May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26
Kinda cool, actually.
Edit, I mean, we do have a ball at the end of lyceum, just after we hit 18, which is the age we gain full civil rights, and it is a huge thing, but we don't do this matching into pairs in a romantic or committing way.
11
u/kapitaalH May 19 '26
In South Africa we don't call it a prom, but a matrix farewell and it has become this insane money spending atrocity.
People spend like months of salaries on dresses and the cars that drop them off.
7
u/Pyroraptor42 May 19 '26
Some people do that in America, too. Renting limousines, fancy dresses, doing expensive activities before/after the actual dance, etc.
I wanna say that some of the wealthier people in my area in Utah will sometimes send their kids, their dates, and their friends to California as a "day trip" before prom proper. Absolutely more money than sense.
3
u/NegativeMammoth2137 May 19 '26
Yeah, but do people actually make such a huge deal of inviting people to proms? Like I would imagine at some point in the relationship after you’ve been together for a while, it’s sort of obvious that if one of you is having a high school prom then of course youre going together.
5
u/ChaosofaMadHatter May 19 '26
“Promposals” are their own industry at this point it seems like. There’s millions of vids every year where people make a whole orchestration out of it.

It's a big dance they hold for graduating seniors in high school. To kids it's a big deal - it's just not a big deal for Hollywood anymore, which is why you don't see it in movies now.
2
3
u/bramblesovereign May 19 '26
Yes. High schoolers go nuts for prom here. They do extravagant things to ask each other out. Dresses can cost up to a grand just for one night. Some girls use the night to get their make up and hair done (ive heard brags of spending around 200usd before just for the night at my school, they weren't kidding, they actually spent that much) for the night.
Prom tickets at my hs in the 2010s were 70usd each.
So yeah. In the us, you could have a high schooler spending about 1.5k usd just to go to a school dance for 3 hours.
Not meaning to shit much on it, its a fun event, but it's become a money sink honestly.
Source: american that went to hs in a mixed income area (and did not attend hers)
2
u/3BlindMice1 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26
It's still a big thing, but these days, they aren't exciting at all since the schools and PTAs tend to very heavily police prom. The actual fun stuff tends to happen at the afterparties
My friends and I and our girlfriends just smoked weed and watched a comedy movie though, we're not like the guys that drove to Galveston at midnight to drink and party on the beach and ended up getting arrested and one of them got deported to Chile for selling drugs. He didn't even know that was possible, he'd been here since he was like 4.

Bwahahah, this actually happened to me in highschool.
Randomly found out that a guy friend I liked was telling everyone I was his girlfriend when anpther friend asked how long we'dbeen together. Cue shocked Pikachu face. Meanwhile, I had been (impatiently) waiting for him to ask me for a few weeks.
Later that day, as we headed for bus to go home, I questioned him about it. It went something like this:
Me: So, um, <friend> asked me today how long we've been dating.
Him: ...
Me (teasing, but hopeful he'dnow actually ask): Since when have I been your girlfriend?
Him (nonchalant boy shrug): I don't know? Awhile?
Me (confused, amused, baffled, and exasperated): You never even asked me to be your girlfriend?!
Him (lopsided smile, glancing down at our linked hands): I just figured you already knew.
Then he merrily pulled me along to our bus home, grabbed a seat where I laid my head against his shoulder, and proceeded to entirely change the subject.
Needless to say, our "anniversary" was mid-Novemberish for 2 years roughly and, despite a later 2 year breakup, we ended up married for nearly 30 years until his death almost 2 years ago.
2
u/D0nni3d May 21 '26
So sorry for your loss. Your story was heartwarming at the beginning but got me crying at the end. Good luck with your grief.
