Every time I hear someone say "everyone in college is left-wing/a communist because of indoctrination" it always makes me laugh. So you are saying that someone who is left-leaning during or after getting a better education is left-leaning because of the indoctrination? Really? Doesn't it occur to you that they are, in fact, just more educated, and that might be the reason behind their stance?
they are young and full of hopes and dreams then when they enter the real world and those hopes and dreams are crushed by bills and taxes they see the light and tend to lean more conservative
They just get more comfortable in their routine and scared of everything that isn't said routine. They don't "see the light." They saw it back when they were learning. They just decide to ignore what they saw and the injustice around them. Luckily, not all of them decide to sacrifice everyone and everything for comfort. And they are less and less these days. Of that, I'm happy.
University / Academia is NOT the real world. Everything sounds great in theory and quite a bit of those theories die in out there where there are consequences in the cold cruel world.
Injustice is not only perpetuated by the right. It is a universal human action and believing otherwise is just being naive.
If you want to give your effort and earnings to others feel free to do so but don’t force me to adhere to your morals. I have my own which include making the world a better place through hard work and setting an example for other to leave everywhere they visit better than they found it.
Academia is real, as real as everything else. The theory works and explains, but it's easier to abandon it for comfort and out of fear. Just like you did.
Go live alone and by yourself if you don't want to help the people you live with. You don't get the support of a community without taking part in it
