Correct. Only thing we are missing here is that the winners have gotten govt involved (very not capitalist) to raise the barrier of entry such that it’s even more difficult for a new competitor to enter the market to perform such a shake-up
"barrier of entry". That's it and also since land (real estate) is finite, winners have won. Even if a new competitor comes with new capitol the only few options they have is to buy or lease out from an old building or look for an empty lot that will be impossible to get a permit, that's not happening. When there was more land and it was cheaper, the investments was a lot easier.
They would just give you land 100 years and go, ok start building here, whatever you want, next to great weather and no regulations.
Edit: Homestead Act of 1862, citizens got up to 160 acres if you farm on it or live on it or just buy that shit for $1.25 per acre (in 2026 adjusted for inflation, that's close to $40 an acre - UM yeah that shit is NEVER happening again.) and stopped around 1976
Ive thought about this a lot trying to get a business of my own off the ground. Honestly what hasn't been done now? Otherwise you even get beat turning your hobby into a business, some asshole corporation already invaded and conquered the land.
I feel like our capitalist nightmare system is butting heads with the simple fact we're plateauing technologically again in a lot of ways. Maybe not medicine and certain fields, but without a major physics breakthrough or something we've kind of run the road on computers, cars, smartphones, etc. This is all perfected technology already, so now they add the gimmicks and cheap out to bullshit us into buying the new one.
I noticed how Mark Fuckerberg tried to repackage the Internet as something else and sell it back to us like it was new.
