And they even took the cocaine out of the cola!

21

u/thejourneybegins42 18h ago

"The Stepan Company plant in Maywood, New Jersey, is the only facility in the United States authorized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to import and process coca leaves."

Unfortunately, they remove the actual fun part from the leaves and just use the flavoring part.

Also, Happy Cake Day!!

And that fun stuff… where does it go?

Destroyed… sure… does Coca Cola know they have CIA officers working in their company and where they are working?

9

u/AristotelWasRight 18h ago

Made into pharmaceuticals, my guess painkiller for nose, throat, eye areas

4

u/M1sfit_Jammer 18h ago

cocaine is used as a vasoconstrictor. Exceptional at stopping nosebleeds ironically

Lidocaine is a better painkiller and over the counter… instant numbing… no chemical relationship to cocaine

2

u/AristotelWasRight 16h ago

It's used as a vasoconstrictor in the medical field... Not now I used it 😂😭

2

u/lluciferusllamas 17h ago

Likely it goes into the cocaine gel that I have used in the ER.  Wouldn't be surprised if it is somehow involved in the production of lidocaine or novocaine as well.

Edit.  Now that I think about it, it's probably given to the DEA who gives it to the CIA, who converts it to crack and sells it to inner city gangsters so they can fund their dark ops around the world.

u/M1sfit_Jammer 17h ago edited 12h ago

Likely you used lidocaine gel, different ingredient. Medical Cocaine is usually a 8-10% solution, nowhere close to pure.

Cocaine and lidocaine have two totally different chemical structures that you couldn’t make one with the other

C17H21NO4 - cocaine

C14H22N2O - lidocaine

Can’t restructure a nitrate group without changing the hydrocarbon structure…

Look at the packaging for your cocaine gel… it isn’t made in the USA and nor does Coca-Cola own mallinckrodt

Got your chain of custody backwards though.

CIA would procure, DEA would distribute

Also, Happy Cake Day!!

You missed the chance for a word play here

u/thejourneybegins42 17h ago

Goddamnit xD

0

u/pointless-pen 17h ago

They might say they only keep the flavor, but the real reason is that they keep the addictive component.

A real big brain move of you ask me

6

u/Silver-Influence805 18h ago

this is the real travesty

3

u/Michael_Dautorio 17h ago

We used to be a country!

1

u/P-l-Staker 17h ago

Cocaless Cola just doesn't have the same ring to it... 😢

30

u/exportkaffe 18h ago

wow that first bottle is really pretty, had no idea it looked like that before

10

u/PraiseTyche 18h ago

It was sold as a tonic or a medicine or some such thing.

2

u/Competitive_Ad_488 16h ago

Yeh I like that one!.

2

u/SoylentCreek 3h ago

Right? I would love for them to do a collectors throwback.

20

u/malicious15 18h ago

In 50 years we'll get this..

15

u/FeralPsychopath 17h ago

I mean we already have these.

18

u/Many-Blueberry968 18h ago

Honestly I like 1986 the most. Flared base, reasonable girth, and a volume that's about right for 1 serving.

3

u/Jesus_H_Christ_AMA 18h ago

I'm sure the 1899 has plenty of girth, maybe more so than the 1986; assuming you can handle it.

1

u/LiterallyRain 16h ago

1957 for me. Almost the same design but I prefer the dyed-on logo over the plastic wrap.

1

u/Many-Blueberry968 16h ago

Id agree except that it's a bit too narrow, I feel like the glass:soda ratio isn't quite as nice, despite the nicer logo styling

10

u/Archaon0103 18h ago

Glass bottles are actually less polluting than plastic bottles. It was just cheaper for the company to make plastic bottles than collect and recycle the glass ones.

7

u/StoicSunbro 17h ago

In many countries (like Germany) you pay a 25 cent deposit (pfand) on the plastic bottle. If you bring the plastic bottle back to a machine in the grocery store, you get the 25 cents back.

This results in like 98% of bottles getting recycled. They do it for glass too (8 cents). And they rinse and reuse the glass ones a few times.

5

u/RohelTheConqueror 18h ago

They still do glass though

4

u/AditiaH0ldem 18h ago

That 1899 thing is real? That looks absolutely gorgeous

1

u/FeralPsychopath 17h ago

1

u/SirStocksAlott 4h ago

Would love for them to bring back that 1900 style label.

4

u/Prestigious-Board-62 18h ago

They should also put the cocaine back in.

5

u/inbruges99 18h ago

They should do a special edition one where they return to the 1899 bottle

1

u/Sufficient_Ebb_5694 18h ago

That would be amazing

7

u/Connect_Ad6559 18h ago

The 1899 one looks like something a vampire would have in his drink cabinet!

1

u/No_Cardiologist_822 14h ago

It just look like the dubious homemade alcohol every grandpa had stashed somewhere in the house.

4

u/Grand_Honeydew7661 11h ago

I'm sorry, but the 1899 and 1900 bottles are sexy af.

3

u/OneManFight 8h ago

Ha don't make me laugh or my 1910 bottle will fall out..

1

u/Unreasonable_jury 4h ago

If it's flaired stick it there?

3

u/bajsfittor 18h ago

1910 is THICC

2

u/Adamant_TO 18h ago

Its called the "Mae West" bottle because of her waist line.

1

u/Rainouts 14h ago

Fuck I was just about to say that

3

u/Adamant_TO 18h ago

I have a few of the 1900 model on my shelf.

2

u/Buttercups88 18h ago

Its weird that it gets consistently worse... except 1910. What the heck is going on with that bottle? Just seems unnecessary.

2

u/bakedinmorewaysthan1 13h ago

That’s actually the “stubby bottle”! It was designed by glass blowers at the Coca Cola bottling plant in Terre Haute, Indiana. The style of bottle was something they hadn’t really seen at the time, so they decided to use it as their trademark. The design changed overtime to be less stubby in the middle, but the essence is the same as the bottles you see today. Terre Haute is regarded as the “birthplace of the Coca Cola bottle”, although Coke no longer has a bottling plant there.

1

u/Buttercups88 13h ago

Cool .. but it's also a ridiculous bottle. It must have made transportation, stacking and distribution so much more difficult than it needed to be

1

u/bakedinmorewaysthan1 12h ago

lol I agree it looks ridiculous, but apparently the design of the bottle was actually less prone to breaking than the straight up and down. I could be remembering incorrectly, I grew up in terre haute and learned about it in school.

2

u/InvictvsNox 18h ago

That OG bottle looks like a potion and would 100% get me to drink Coke again

2

u/Bagheera111 18h ago

Half the amount is missing now

2

u/hereinaminute 18h ago

Nah you know that concoction in the first bottle tastes like creek water

2

u/AnAnGrYSupportV2 18h ago

"Damn I'm low on HP, let me drink my col- health potion!"

1

u/Rosienenbrot 18h ago

Back then it used to be a "health" potion. It had enough cocaine in it to forget about that leg pain

1

u/AnAnGrYSupportV2 18h ago

It's like Jug from Cod zombies! 😂

2

u/HeraclesHide 18h ago

1899 looks awesome, like a fantasy potion or some such

2

u/nicknamesas 18h ago

I mean yeah, full of coke

3

u/HeraclesHide 17h ago

Colombia should do a limited run haha

1

u/Lazy-Ape 18h ago

Wonder how much difference there is in taste between them all.

1

u/knbob21304 18h ago

Nah, the prototype was just good looking, whereas the current version has been optimized for handling, transport, pressure resistance,...

1

u/Hamstaaboy 18h ago

Added a flared base

1

u/Fuzzy-Eggplant1354 18h ago

So cork was “perfection”? 🤨

1

u/Nerje 18h ago

Really? Because the base seems to be getting more and more flared as time goes on

1

u/Intelligent_Chicken6 18h ago

I like number 1

1

u/FloweringForth 18h ago

Show plastic crap so we can really drive point

1

u/regular_poster 18h ago

I like the newest one the most tbh

1

u/I_SmellFuckeryAfoot 18h ago

I wouldn't call a cork perfection

1

u/XROOR 18h ago

In Korea, the glass bottles had a green tint.

1

u/No_Philosopher_8711 17h ago

Remember the old Ad....

"More bounce to the ounce"

1

u/Ok_Brother685 17h ago

Crazy how a design from 1916 still looks so good today!

1

u/theliftingjunkies101 17h ago

That design from 1899 is when coke feels like a luxury

And 1986 is when cokes feels like a regular water

1

u/DankTheB3ar 16h ago

Those the perfection you talk about include the og coke having coke?

1

u/Storyteller-Hero 16h ago

1899 Coca-Cola must have been wild at parties

1

u/Ad-fundum69 15h ago

The design has barely changed at all over the past 100 years.

1

u/ShadowKnight151 14h ago

You would never financially recover from buying a coke with the first bottle today

1

u/JeopardEyes 12h ago

Ahh yes, I want to carry my corn screw everywhere

1

u/keyboredwarrior 12h ago

1899 looks fancy

1

u/abskpr 12h ago

Towards mass production

We peaked in 1910

1

u/Gwifitz 18h ago

The first design kinda slaps, ngl

1

u/Rose_ss25 18h ago

honestly speaking the 86 one is much better then the other ones

1

u/Nemisis_007 18h ago

I kinda miss the green, apart from the colour, I do agree.

1

u/Rose_ss25 17h ago

it had a green colour? gosh it sounds cool why they removed it?

0

u/True_Protection6842 18h ago

What about the last 40 years. And why is old always better to some people?

1

u/Nemisis_007 18h ago

Because in some cases, old is better. This isn’t one of them tho.

Look at the first bottle is way pretty and presentable instead of advancing where are going lower.

1

u/AllMyFrendsArePixels 1h ago

idk man it looks like at least between 1910 and 1916 we strayed a little closer back towards perfection. wtf is that 1910 bottle looks like some video game potion ass shit.
