Who are these people and why do they choose to die on the hill of defending an Islamic theocracy where people voted for Hamas, dance in the streets after partygoers get massacred and in general have a society with civil right of medieval Europe.

Hamas was elected one time 20 years ago. The literal children being killed in deliberate strikes on schools, hospitals, and residential areas certainly didn't vote for them.
