TOOL has had phone bans at their shows for years. You can have them with you but if security sees you with it out mid-show you get booted. Seen it happen quite a few times.
The band usually allows the last show to be recorded by fans.
Their reasoning of "being in the moment" makes sense beyond not messing with someone else's view
Doesn't matter, they don't even watch the videos they record they just hold their phones up in the air and block views, play it loudly on the train home and then absolutely no one wants to see or gear the garbled mess when there is often pro shots and mixing desk mixes available.
They do. There was even a point to where Samsung was actually allocating more production to iPhones than to their own products. Forgot when exactly but it was in the last few years. At the time people posting were like how tf does that happen. Well, apple sells a lot of phones and so it’s very lucrative to be their supplier.
People forget that brands aren't sports clubs, they need to make business, Samsung makes screens, others buy them, that's simple. Consumers get all emotional about some brand that gives them nothing in return.
Can you edit the the other guy with the Samsung to say iPhone instead?
Cause both samsung and iPhone are scamming the people who think theres a Samsung vs Iphone debate.
How do you think Samsung knew to release a phone nearly the exact same size a couple months before lol. Aside from udc and stylus support, the iPhone duo isn't really compelling, and is ugly as sin to boot.
I still have and use mine. Currently typing on it and I love it. I wish they lasted up to the 16 though cause I want a mini with a USB-C port. That would be the perfect phone
My kingdom for a mini! I already have a laptop, and I have never once wished to cram it in my pocket. The slabs are already way too big. We have the technology to make them compact, but evidently not the interest among manufacturers. I can't tell whether that's because they're accurately assessing that you and I are in a minority and there's little demand, but it feels like there's commercial pressure coming from elsewhere to make these goddamn things enormous--it's like the phone version of how we got SUVs. They're wasteful; they're stupid; and they're your only choice because station wagons are gone.
Well, a foldable iPad mini.
I honestly think I'd consider going for a foldable if Samsung re-does the tri-fold and eventually it gets down to a reasonable price. Unfolding to basically a "full size tablet" seems awesome, but just to a "mini tablet" is not enough of a jump for me to bite. I have an iPad mini that sees only very sparse use because it sits in the awkward space between phone and tablet, so when I want to larger screen to sit with I just grab the full size tab instead.
Big brain move is to buy this iPhone and cut it in half, then sell the other half to someone who is also looking for a smaller phone. You can even have a double sided screen phone as an option
Still rocking the iPhone 12 mini. Need an upgrade to tho, phone storage is full and camera is super finicky.
Sometimes I wish the screen was bigger so I don’t have to squint so hard watching some videos. But I love that it fits in my hand and I can reach all the corners of the screen with just my thumb.
Worst part about it is the lightning charge port. I’m looking forward to the microusb charger again when I do finally upgrade (probably to a 16)
Well not just android either lol. There's Huawei which has their own Harmony OS, which makes apple 3rd instead of 2nd. Well more like 17th if you just go by brands.
Yeah I just want a phone that is like 4,5", has a 3,5mm jack and can last at least 2 days on a single battery. I wouldn't even mind paying extra for it. Never wanted a phone that can't be used with one hand.
its funny you say this. I want an OG slider.... full size screen. then it slides out to reveal a physical keyboard. 3.5 headphone jack. sd card support. and vanilla android would legit be my dream phone.
I went from the OG Galaxy Epic to Droid 4 to BB Priv and now I'm stuck with all touchscreen. I'd go back in a heartbeat if someone made an Android slider.
Honestly I'd almost legit go back to a Nokia brick at this point since we're basically getting to the end of the world. Might as well have a phone that lasts for seven years on a charge and can't break.
I like my 8310 after my brick but peak middle before we went fully glass was the N95, big screen, slid left buttons to play, fwd, back, stop - swipe right other buttons. Swipe down keyboard comes out. Carl Zeiss lens and buttons on top/side for vol, camera etc it was perfection and it came in black as the most advanced version, favourite phone ever and it was still useable in one hand but could flip onto its side to watch videos.
I'd take my old Blackberry in a heartbeat. I miss the physical keyboard so much and there really weren't any bells and whistles to it. It didn't even have a browser unless you downloaded Opera to it.
I feel this especially with whatever happened to the iOS keyboard over the last couple of years. I’ve been loyal to iphones for like 15 years and I am about to switch back it’s so terrible.
Crowd fund me . Ill create dumb TVs, fixable phones with no ads, the more money i get the more i'll just recreate these greedy ceos companys, i'll pay the all tax, wont interfere, just leave me away from fame
And I want that goddamn LED that blinks blue when you've got an unread message, red when charging! Fucking Samsung took that away to make the screens slightly larger.
Every facet of modern life is just becoming less utilitarian and more flashy bullshit that nobody wants.
I also miss the fact my Pixel could be squeezed at the side to mute or dismiss an alarm.... And it's facial recognition was IR so could see my face in the dark
Was just going to comment that. I'm typing this easily with one hand on my iPhone 13 mini. I just replaced my iPhone 12 mini with this one. Mini gang forever
It’s great for commuting. While walking you have somehow regular phone for music and texting. When on public transport you have a big screen for brainroting yourself.
I have the Samsung Galaxy Fold 7. I love this thing. It's like having a tablet I can actually fit in my pocket. Great for playing games or watching videos.
I have considered getting one but i always have my phone with me when I'm working in the garden. I always drop it and there's dust and stuff everywhere. I figure a foldable wouldn't handle that very well.
Yea i have a fold 5. Love it to death, just hard to find a good case for (because im particular too, gotta be tough, cover hinge, and have ring on the back) but yea. I use the front screen all day at work, and inside screen if im at home chillin / poopin, and its great for movies on a flight. Inside screen also great for showing other people pictures (have to a lot because of work)
Gaming? Videos? Video calls? Not sure, but I remember saying nope to Air Pods and Apple Watch and now I use both daily so I’m resisting my snap judgement.
Because bigger is better? 😅. More and more young people own a single device that is their phone with no tablet or pc. Having a bigger display improves almost everything, especially content consumption.
What's so hard to understand? People are glued to their phones and play content on them all the time. This gives a huge screen size to better absorb said content without having to lug around a bigger device like an iPad. It's pretty straight-forward.
She went into tech reviews, had some health issues that were super serious. But she’s considered the OG streamer before platforms and still posts on YT
i have been using fold phones for the last years, cases have always been an issue.
I only used the official Samsung cases and i went through 3 already on my current phone.
The 'border' that protects the outer display is attached with a adhesive strip, that won't re-attach well after you remove it to clean your phone.
or the little plastic border (on the hinge side) straight up fails and can snap in half when you grab your phone wrong or have earbuds in the same pocket...
I can't imagine any other way to make a case though. so i guess apple will have the same issue.
On the Apple website there are 2 official cases and both just say they attach using magnets, no mention of anything else holding it on but I’m sure we’ll see them reviewed closer to release date.
For the last 15 years or so, yeah. Say what you will about Jobs, his approach to the company was: “Come up with the innovation that will render our current products obsolete before the competition can do it.” People thought he was crazy to introduce the iPhone because not only would it kill the iPod, which was one of their bigger success stories in decades following mostly stagnant product releases, but also because it wasn’t competing in the same marketplace as all of the other early smartphones like Blackberry. But the iPhone turned out to be the BlackBerry killer AND the iPod killer.
After Jobs died, Tim Cook has done a great job at iterating on the success of the product ecosystem that Apple built under Jobs, making the walls of the garden higher, the moat deeper, and planting more inside. But Cook’s approach has 100% been to maintain the status quo. A few exploratory shots to try and innovate. The Vision Pro. Their attempt to develop AI in house before they finally had to give up and work with Google and ChatGPT. But they never went all in on any of those ideas, and while they sat back, innovation in the market has come from elsewhere.
I’d argue with the exception of the iPhone even under jobs their strategy was to refine existing tech and call it innovative. There were MP3 players, personal computers, etc before Apple. They just made those products better
Yeah people act like Jobs was coming up with completely new, original ideas when he was actually refining existing ideas and packaging them in a way that appealed to the mass market. It’s impressive either way but I dislike when people pretend Apple went on a wildly different direction after he died lol.
Apple sometimes invents new tech, but they usually just leverage existing tech extremely well. What sets them apart is that they know how to leverage that tech and build it into an elegant, solid, seamless product.
“The method, pioneered by Apple, is meant to spread mechanical stress across multiple layers to improve durability and reduce visible creasing over time. The UTG layers will be mass produced for Apple's rivals by Samsung, for wide adoption in 2027.”
Can somebody explain to me why they opened this presentation by saying "Ah with other foldables you get some black bars with videos and movies and blablabla" and then show up with an aspect ratio that will also have these black bars?
Seems to me Apple let Samsung release shitty versions until they got the screen sorted out, as they often do with most cutting edge tech. Now that Samsung figured out how to make the crease almost impossible to see, Apple was happy to source displays from them and wrap their own design around it in a better form factor. I'm not gonna buy it, but I was impressed overall.
Can I just get an OG Razr flip phone with the physical buttons? Upgrade the software a little so it can run Pandora and I'm fucking set! I will lay money for that phone!
They caught up to Samsung... and Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola, Honor... and a looot of other small companies... but they did it anyway. Only 10 years later. Amazing.
Meanwhile, an iPhone user: I never seen anything like it before!!!
This looks like a walking repair bill. Ill stick with my s20 whatever it is that has survived quite literally everything and I've had paid off for years.
I've got a really good friend who has a phone repair business. He told me emphatically to avoid these flip phones like the plague, because they are the ones that break the most . He is very happy that these exist, keeps him in business.
They wanted the unfolded screen to be widescreen aspect ratio so bad that they made it the most awkward size when it's in phone mode. That wide ass phone is not fitting into a lot of pockets.
Samsung Z fold is the same aspect ratio in tablet mode, but actually shaped like a phone when it's closed.
