They also whine about the birth rate among teenagers having fallen.

can you substantiate this, because i spend more time on reddit than i should and ive never seen this

and not, like, a tweet or a reddit post, with a small amount of upvotes or whatever.

fair enough, thanks!

Oof that tweet is wild. Unbelievable. Thanks for linking those sources!

u/Ox_of_Dox Sep 04 '26

There was a major conservative doctor (I can only assume) on FOX News a while ago that was showcasing pregnancy polls, and then showed the amount of teen pregnancies, where he then said that it was "unfortunate" that teen pregnancy rates had dropped for whatever reason

8

u/_teach_me_your_ways_ Sep 05 '26

Same people who will freak about sex before marriage but they want other peoples teens to pick up the slack and birth a bunch of “welfare babies” for them to bully and refer to as the “downfall of society.”

pikaliv commented with everything I was going to supply so I'll let their comment stand as the answer cause I can't really add anything. :)

u/AssSpelunkingAtheist Sep 04 '26

I’ve seen this from several sources and I’m appalled. Like they shame teen pregnancy but now they’re mad it’s not happening as much? Ffs make it make sense.

4

u/Hawkmonbestboi Sep 04 '26

Yeeeup. I'm just tired, boss.

3

u/sddk1 Sep 04 '26

There belief system requires the shame, blood, tears, othering, ostracism and humiliation of others. If there are suddenly fewer to look down upon, who even are they?

2

u/AssSpelunkingAtheist Sep 04 '26

Metallica wrote a song about this. “Sad But True” (not really but the title fits)

2

u/Hawkmonbestboi Sep 05 '26

The Hu did "Sad But True" better lol

The fact that you look at it like completely villainizes anyone who has different beliefs than you when they can come from a good place. I’d really like to offer another perspective and I hope that you can take what I’m saying in a meaningful way. Almost no one (always exceptions, but never good ones) wants to see a teenager with a child. A child raising another child is never an ideal situation. Instead they want people to realize that they need to take responsibility for their actions, but also at the age it’s hard to understand the seriousness of the action they are taking. Not just on their life, but also on their health. Abortions should not just be used as a regular form of birth control, not just because of what it’s doing to an unborn child (debated), but because of how it will harm the mother long term. There needs to be greater education on this. People need to understand what decisions they are making. I will never judge a teenager for getting an abortion. Would I get an abortion myself, no I wouldn’t. Would I push or suggest to any of my friends and family to get one, also no. But would I end a relationship with anyone over it, no. I would do my best to support them. The problem is complicated and we have to stop acting like it’s an easy decision, an easy fix to the problem. And we need to stop villainizing each other on both sides in blanketing kind of way. That’s not the way to a better world. We need more understanding from everyone.

Btw I’m not saying there aren’t people who are actual villains. And they deserve to be exposed and handled properly. But they don’t reflect most of society, so we need to stop treating others in that way. It will only make the world a worse place and create greater separation and more resentment.

Edit: grammar & clarification

u/Hawkmonbestboi Sep 05 '26

No one mentioned abortion. We were talking about Republicans actively talking about teenage pregnancy reduction like it is a BAD THING.

Legitimately sitting in news rooms on major networks and talking about how TEENAGERS SHOULD BE HAVING MORE BABIES.

Another user posted the sources under my comment.

Maybe instead of knee jerk reacting like this, you take a moment and research to make sure you know what you are talking about.

0

u/East-Wall-3938 Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26

Clearly you missed the point of what I was saying. LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR: I AM NOT IN SUPPORT OF TEEN PREGNANCY.

Also they aren’t talking about a reduction in teen pregnancy, they are talking about a reduction in teenage birth rate (these are two different things), which points to different factors including sex education, contraception use, and abortion. So although it’s not specifically stated abortion is completely relevant. You think it’s all about Republicans being pedophiles, but what if it’s really just about them not being in support of abortion.

Both teenage pregnancy and teenage birth rates have decreased. Less teenage pregnancy is an amazing thing! And anyone who thinks differently is insane, so please don’t act like I think kids should be having more children because I was very specific in stating it is not a good thing. WE ARE IN TOTAL AGREEMENT ON THIS.

I actually read the sources. So maybe instead of having a knee jerk reaction to what I said because we don’t agree on everything, maybe pay closer attention to the article’s title.

I was trying to make a profound point. But it seems it went right over your head.

This still makes me so fucking angry. My daughter is about to be 10. She's a BABY. She still plays with stuffies. I just can't imagine someone so evil to do that to a child.

1

u/highheelcyanide Sep 05 '26

My daughter just turned 10. Her body has always looked mature for her age. She just develops quicker than her peers. I absolutely fucking hate this reality. She’s tall too.

1

u/taybay462 Sep 05 '26

The thing is, if she did indeed have PPP, she isnt evil. She lost grip with reality, and thats a very important distinction from doing what she did but by someone who didnt lost grip with reality

5

u/ghoulthebraineater Sep 04 '26

Please leave us ghouls out of this.

8

u/blondie64862 Sep 04 '26

THIS! The American public is not capable of nauce of any sort. There are so many things concerning with this case and 75% are fucking idiots who can't grasp it. She killed her children she should be institutionalized because that is the law that governs society. She also was a victim of the systemic medical neglect of women and pregnancy. And her husband is a POS who neglected her and his children. HE should have realized what was happening when she was not acting normally like after her last two children.

Do we KNOW she killed her children? She was so drugged it's entirely possible her husband did it and framed her.

u/Dawg_Prime Sep 04 '26

because American conservatism IS a mental illness

1

u/RocketRelm Sep 04 '26

Republicans haven't been conservative for a while. Populist maga wears conservative like a skin with none of the actual values. Which yes, makes it seem ghoulish.

4

u/SupriseAutopsy13 Sep 04 '26

I've been told my whole life the "worst" conservatives "don't actually represent the American conservative movement."

Then the American conservative movement stood behind Donald fucking trump. For three election cycles. I'm beginning to think the American conservative movement might just be rotten and full of shit

2

u/theworldisunfair12 Sep 04 '26

Maybe if you keep digging deeper you’ll find that so is the left, and the whole thing is now a great lie to keep the poors from unifying against the ruling class.

1

u/SupriseAutopsy13 Sep 04 '26

Nothing brings out the "butmuhbothsides" like presenting an example of something only one side is definitely doing

0

u/theworldisunfair12 Sep 05 '26

Yea I’m the idiot because I don’t subscribe to a team and instead want to hold everyone accountable.

You’re a sheep. Wake up. Neither side is your side

-1

u/RocketRelm Sep 04 '26

Obviously the american conservative movement steadily cast aside more and more of their principles, but in 2006 you could at least say they had some principles, right or wrong. And conservative doesn't 1 to 1 equal evil, even if "conservativism" as the usa calls it is irredeemably corrupted.

1

u/CantCatchMeSpez Sep 04 '26

but in 2006 you could at least say they had some principles

Such as? In 2006, conservatives were still trying to silence anyone who opposed the GWoT, the Patriot Act, and Islamaphobia, were even more against gay marriage than they are now, and were actively forming the Tea Party which was the precursor to MAGA. They might have tried a bit harder to pretend that they stood for something back then, but I can't think of any actual principle they held that weren't just pretty words that they contradicted all the time.

1

u/RocketRelm Sep 04 '26

I would believe most of them genuinely held moral values. Things we took for granted back then. A sincere concern for the economy and rule of law and promoting democracy. Not just brazenly deporting natural citizens. An understanding of science and not just being anti vax.

They were obviously racist and biased, and its clearly their fault they wound up this way. But I feel pretty strongly a genuine conservative from 2006, without the pipeline they took to normalize them to it, would be horrified at the putin loving, Canada threatening, might run a third term trump.

3

u/SupriseAutopsy13 Sep 04 '26

Nearly all of those "genuine conservatives" are still with us, and voted for Trump all three terms. Most of them are ready to vote for him again in two years if given the opportunity.

1

u/CantCatchMeSpez Sep 04 '26

Idk. I agree that it definitely felt like they held a lot more principled values back then, and maybe they themselves thought that they had principled values, but I have a hard time believing that any of it was real when they pretty much all collectively fell in love with the MAGA movement and happily threw away any and all of their principles for it.

0

u/CantCatchMeSpez Sep 04 '26

MAGA is what conservatism has always been, just with its mask off. It's not a coincidence that virtually every single conservative in America just so happened to jump on the Trump train and go full fascist the instant they were given the opporturnity. Whether fascism is just a degree of conservatism or conservatism is a degree of fascism is a matter of semantics, but its one of the two.

1

u/RocketRelm Sep 04 '26

Not exactly. The nazis did the same thing with socialism. China with communist rhetoric. Its a manner of authoritarians to infect other movements and pretend to hold those values to get a tribal cult going. Pretending that other forms could never fall prey to the same issues just because they aren't conservative is a trap. This is a human tendency overall.

1

u/CantCatchMeSpez Sep 04 '26

The Nazi example is completely different than what I'm talking about. The socialists didn't become fascists in Germany. The actual socialists that joined the Nazi party for the socialism that the party was pretending to stand for weren't the ones that did the Holocaust and weren't the defenders of the party after it took power. In fact, they were one of the first groups that the Nazis persecuted after they gained power and didn't need to keep the mask on anymore. There's a massive difference between a fascist lying about what they stand for and stealing rhetoric from the left to gain popularity from leftists, and a fascist who is loud and proud about the fascist shit he stands for to gain popularity from the fascists in the country.

0

u/Dawg_Prime Sep 05 '26

conservatives haven't been republican for a while

I fucking knew this place would start diving in with the insane conservatives. There are no spines to be found in this sub, just outrage.

1

u/East-Wall-3938 Sep 05 '26

She used the terminology “mental illness” because not everyone agrees that Lindsey Clancy had postpartum psychosis. However it is clear that whether or not she experienced psychosis she absolutely experienced postpartum depression.

Also anyone who sees anything in those black in white terms, including abortion is wrong. Not everyone who is a republican thinks abortion is wrong in case of rape, incest, etc… People need to use critical thinking skills to evaluate situations rather than just declaring a stance and holding firm (on both sides). I’ve seen people discuss post-birth abortion, which frankly is disgusting. It brings new meaning to the word, but makes (some) people who agree with abortion feel like it is ok. It’s all a slippery slope.

I wish we would all stop looking at each other as evil opposites if we have differing views. Otherwise the world will continue to separate, filling with hatred and war.

This is why I identify as an independent. Someone asks you your political stance, you answer and they immediately make a bunch of assumptions about who you are (both sides) and their ears turn off to truly listening. I’d like the opportunity to express my beliefs and be heard in a meaningful way. I wish we could all be more open to hearing each other, rather than assuming the worst or that the end of the spectrum is the norm.

Projection. Republicans are too scared to tell dear leader he lost the 2020 election. They're also too scared to say trump diddled kids with his good friend Jeffrey Epstein, and are going to look at that pretty blue sky while he pardons Maxwell

1

u/peterpangoni Sep 05 '26

Republican party also believe 10-year olds that are raped should carry those fetuses to birth, and then raise those babies as elementary and middle-schoolers with no SNAP or other financial assistance.

"I project bad things onto my broad political enemy, so I can verify my political beliefs". I've actually never seen the mainstream party to advocate for the things you described. Maybe you can link me to someone actually saying it (and not just some random nutjob)?

u/anonyhouse2021 Sep 05 '26

Look up the case of the ten year old in Ohio who who had to be transported across state lines to have an abortion (the doctor who helped her leave the state was then investigated by the state). Some quotes from people who believe she should she been forced to give birth:

James Bopp, the general counsel for the National Right to Life Committee, said in an interview that the girl should have been legally forced to carry her pregnancy to full term and then give birth, and that "She would have had the baby, and as many women who have had babies as a result of rape, we would hope that she would understand the reason and ultimately the benefit of having the child"

In April 2023, the head of Cincinnati Right to Life, Laura Strietmann, commented that the girl should have been forced to give birth, explaining that although "a pregnancy might have been difficult on a 10-year-old body, a woman's body is designed to carry life,"
