i know there are already tons of expense tracking and budgeting apps out there, but i wanted to build something a little different. something with a cleaner, simpler UI, while still having the functionality to split bills with your friends.
so i built wym (where's your money).
essentially, it's a budgeting app + Splitwise combined into one.
the whole idea started when i first entered uni. we had so many hangouts, bonding sessions, dinners, and whenever the bill came, it was always a headache. who paid for what? how much does everyone owe? who's splitting with who?
and as a broke uni student, tracking my expenses was also one of the ways i tried to keep myself disciplined with my spending.
so i thought, why not combine both?
here's how wym works:
1. track your expenses (manually or automatically)
you can use the app normally and input your expenses manually, without setting up anything extra.
but obviously, i'm lazy.
so i also built in Apple Shortcuts integration. you set it up once, and your transactions can be recorded automatically. at least for me, i barely have to manually input anything anymore.
2. split bills with your friends
once an expense is recorded, you can choose to split it with your friends. no more calculating who owes who or digging through old chats trying to figure out what happened to that $80 dinner.
3. AI-powered categorisation
i know we're all a little skeptical about AI being shoved into everything nowadays, but i think this is actually a pretty useful application of it.
wym uses AI to read the transaction descriptions captured through Apple Shortcuts and automatically categorise your expenses.
so instead of manually deciding whether something belongs under food, shopping, transport, etc., the app does it for you.
4. automatic split settlement matching
this is probably one of my favourite features.
when your friend transfers you money, wym can detect the name and amount from the transaction. if it matches an outstanding split, it'll suggest linking that payment to the split.
you just have to approve it, and it's settled.
the whole point is to make expense tracking and splitting bills as effortless as possible.
but ultimately, i think what i'm trying to achieve with wym is to help us become a little more conscious of how we spend our money.
not necessarily to force everyone to budget every single dollar, but at least to have a clearer picture of where our money is going.
and yes, everything is free! (for now)
i'm also trying to figure out a way to give the first 100 users 1 year of premium for free as a small thank you for being early supporters.
currently, the app is on version 1.1.14 on the App Store, and i'm already working on rolling out another update (arghhhh Apple review).
but before i keep building more features, i genuinely want to know whether this app is actually useful to other people, and more importantly, whether it's easy to navigate and use.

i'd really appreciate it if you could give it a try and let me know what you think!
whether it's the UI, bugs, confusing features, or something you wish the app could do, i'm open to any reviews, suggestions, and feedback.
just pls be gentle, thanks HAHAHA.
