Tactics Discussion Looking to get to 1000 points
Looking for recommendations on units to buy to get to 1000 points. I have a republic starter and box of clone infantry. Don’t know if I should go with a vehicle or specialized units

I'm looking forward to the jedi barcs dropping this Friday... I'm also looking forward to trying out different atrt combos though I think the basic gatling for 5b may be my choice

First question do you want to build a specific legion?
501st and 212th both have a specific battle force and offer different play styles with the 501st being more hero and elite infantry focused compared to the 212ths vehicle focus.

My vote would be heroes, specifically the Republic Ahsoka and Heroes of the Clone Army. It gives you a few options to play with especially since most of those characters can be played either alone or as an upgrade.
Alternatively, the Yoda and Padme box because Yoda is a lot of fun.

I only play GAR and typically do all clone units. My go to is commandos and arfs for my specialty units. Arks are just better Marksmen with natural range 4, as defensability. Commandos are good, but are their best if you have 3 squads of them to take full advantage of their <Complete the Mission> Keyword.
Vehicle wise I haven't had much luck with. The Sabre isn't bad, the barcs are solid but very squishy. Haven't used the Infatry platform yet, and the ATRT's are solid.
I'd recommend picking a direction for your army to focus on that first, either infantry or vehicles, then build a list around that before extending to the other. If going for vehicles Commander Cody is a must buy. If infantry, get Rex. (Thought if you're going for infantry, I'd grab the Heros of the Republic box for Rex, Gives, Echo, and Anakin)

As others have said, it depends on what you like. The safest bet is getting another starter set, but the route I took was a box of Commandos and an ATRT. I think it got me right to about 1000. Just choose the skew that you think would be most interesting and get a couple of boxes. You’ll have a ton of fun!

If you're going Republic, may as well get The Bad Batch (they are 160 pts).

It's hard not to recommend a second starter, though since you already got a Clone Infantry the utility isn't as high. ARCs are good!
Marksmen are a good buy. Running 1-2 to hold your back line is decent, and their heavies can go in Infantry, too.
Saber tanks are good.
I always recommend hero packs. Cody is a good complimentary pick up. Heroes of the Clone Army has Anakin. Leaders of the Republic has Yoda.
Clone Commandos are a nice splash.
You can't really go wrong.
