Favorite Egan book! Some other similar ones:

Diaspora - A flaw in our understanding of stellar dynamics means stars actually go supernova way more often than we thought and we're all going to die by gamma ray burst if we don't escape into another universe.

Incandescence - Beetles living in an artificial asteroid orbiting a roving neutron star have to learn orbital mechanics to save themselves when their orbit starts to decay.

The infinite assassin - A woman takes drugs that let her communicate with every other branching version of herself as the universe evolves over time. Thwarts a corporate assassin by mapping him into an insignificant subset of states.

Diaspora might be the best novel I've ever read. Could only read it once though 😭. Haven't read the others yet

As far as I know it unfortunately won't be possible for over 60 billion years.

I don’t know how people don’t go genuinely insane speculating about stuff like this as their whole ass profession

Not quite the same, but the mathematician George Price went batshit from contemplating the mathematics involved with genetics and human altruism.
