community Self-serve: Flair posts as resolved, award points

If you, the original poster (OP), post with the Help Request flair, and receive a helpful answer, you can award a point to that user and flair the post as Resolved.

To do this, reply to the comment with thanks or thank you somewhere in the comment. It is case-insensitive.

What are the points for? We have been helping each other here for 14 years. It's less an incentive for imaginary points but hopefully an indication of reputation (not quite analogous to post count on the official forum). We'll see how this works out, if it does more good than harm.

You may notice mods distributing points especially if a user has not. We use a trigger command comment which you may see if we haven't deleted it after awarding. We delete since it creates clutter.

discussion I think Ive found my workflow

Post image
21 Upvotes

ok your probably thinking, oh the guys larping as an abelton user, kinda.

I've never used ableton, but I just really like the theme. every where's where it needs to be, and it all sticks to one shape, its sharp, clean and ORANGE!!!!

along with this, worded toolbars look good so Ive been able to build my workflow around task bars.

my philosophy for my workflow is all linked to the simple idea that this should be a workflow that's easy to understand for everyone and me. the 4 toolbar shortcuts on the main tool bar are all linked to a separate toolbars dedicated to different things. then you've got you top main toolbar with everything you would typically need to use quickly.

In my tool toolbar I have 4 different themes along with the main one, these themes are meant to look like other daws, logic, ableton, FL, protools.

would love to know what yall think, BUT remember, this is just my way of doing things so please keep the comments tame.

Good day to all!

help request Sync issue : 25FPS fine - 23.976FPS = 35.23 offset

• Upvotes

Bit of a weird one - initially I had Logic Pro and Reaper working perfectly on loads of projects that were at 23.976fps. I’ve been doing a load at 25fps and recently started working on another at 23.976. I changed both Logic and Reaper to 23.976 (Reaper’s setting being 23.976ND as it was before) and now all of a sudden Reaper is exactly 35 seconds and 23 frames ahead of Logic.

Thinking this must be some sort of in-session bug, I closed both sessions and opened two vanilla projects and again, Reaper is exactly 35 seconds 23 frames ahead of Logic.

Is there any other setting in Reaper I may have missed? The only ‘offset’ is in the external sync window of around -250 to -750 ms to get video to sync exactly.

discussion Convert Cool Edit or Adobe Audition to Reaper!

Hi, I created a little app that converts Cool Edit or Adobe Audition Ses or Sesx files to reaper sessions. It's based on some stuff kicking around on github, which I asked my bots to combine into an app. Anyone interested? I guess anyone could do it, but I'm happy to share mine.

Anyone know how to contribute it to be a native part of Reaper? It's pretty simple, not perfect but pretty much works. Could be useful for folks who might want to touch up an old session ...

Have a good one!

help request render doesn't match what I hear in Reaper

Im going slightly mad now - what I hear in Reaper is different then what I get in render. Render presets attached . There are no additional effects, no limiters, no compression. Render is into wav format which I bring back to Reaper for comparison. I have this brass staccato phrase with high dynamics. It sounds great in Reaper (BBC Symphony Orchestra from Spitfire) but rendered it sounds flat and squeezed though as I said I don't use anything on those tracks! I rendered to mp3, wav at different settings. Anyone knows what might be the issue?

p.s.

I applied one midi item that had the most robust sound (tuba) and rendered to audio item in place. The difference is tremendous.

help request Guitar audio recording into drum track

I’ve been fighting this for a minute and can’t find out what is going on. Using the MT power kit plugin and put grooves in Track 1 & Amplitube for guitar on Track 2. When I record the guitar it records in both tracks. I think it might be a lane issue because the drums are still in track 1 but not selected in the playback. Any help is appreciated

help request Help Me Adjust My Audio Settings?

Hello! I’m a bit of a baby Reaper, so I hope this question sn’t too overasked

I record on a headset mic. Yes, I know it’s not the best technique, but it’s the best I have so far. I don’t use Reaper for music, I use it for voiceover work that involves reading aloud. The headset is the Plantronics Blackwire 5220. Apologies for poor spelling/formatting: I’m blind and Reddit sucks-

In short though, what audio setup is best when recording like this? I’ve tried many a web search, but all I get is stuff for using studio equipment that I don’t have access to right now. Any advice from more experienced users?

resolved Trouble with setting up my MIDI Keyboard

UPDATE: As suggested by AnalogSummer, I came back to ReaLearn, but by default some buttons have same values, because for some reason almost everything is on channel 16...?
I fixed it by creating a custom mode in Novation Components, assigning buttons to different channels, and I can finally set everything properly!

OS: Windows 10
MIDI Keyboard: Novation Launchkey MK4
My drivers are updated to the latest version.

According to YouTube tutorials, I'm supposed to go to Preferences > MIDI Inputs & MIDI Outputs, enable my device, then go to Actions > Show action list... and set everything up. My problem is that not every button is seen by Reaper. For example: I can't assign my record button, it doesn't detect my input at all (I enabled "Input, All, Control" in MIDI Inputs and "Enable, Clock" in MIDI Outputs).

Official Novation support on the other hand recommends setting it up via adding HUI (partial) Control surface mode in Preferences > Control/OSC/web. It works to some extend as most of buttons are assigned automatically (I can control volume, panning, and recording works, too), but with this, I can't edit anything manually in Actions, so there are still buttons that don't work or I can't adjust to my liking.

I also tried using ReaLearn, but some of the buttons are detected in the same way, so behavior of it is quite unexpected (example: My undo button has the same Type, Channel and CC as my 7th volume slider, so when I use the slider it undoes everything instead).

Is there anything I can do about it? Has anyone had problems with this? :')

help request "Stretch Note Length (arpeggiate/chordize)" is Broken

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with the Stretch Note Length (arpeggiate/chordize) mouse modifier in REAPER's MIDI Editor.

This feature used to work perfectly for me. I could select multiple MIDI notes, hold Shift + Alt, and left-drag to stretch their positions while preserving their relative timing.

However, it no longer behaves as expected. When I select notes and perform this gesture, REAPER sometimes selects all the notes automatically, and other times it behaves erratically instead of stretching the selected notes.

My current mouse modifier settings are shown in the attached screenshot. The action is set to Stretch notes (arpeggiate/chordize) → Just stretch under Shift + Alt → left drag.

I don't remember changing anything that could have caused this issue, and I haven't been able to figure out what's wrong.

Is this a known bug, or am I doing something wrong? Has anyone experienced similar behavior or found a solution?

Thanks in advance for your help!

help request What are the white lines?

I have used command 40315 (Item: Auto trim/split items (remove silence)) on the advice given in a previous post (thanks again) and unlike my manual trims I've ended up with these white lines with triangle wedges at the bottom. They don't appear to be the end of the trim and neither are they the auto cross fade lines (those are red).

Sorry for the school boy question - but what are they and can they cause me any issues? Its for an audiobook.

Thanks :)

discussion So its almost complete

Update: i pushed straight to 1.9.2 its now live! had some minor bugs..in 1.8.0 so 1.9.2 is Live now
Fixed Apreggios, Integrated a Grid and notelenght connect button as well as a new Tool Divisio Vocum which distributes Notations accross staffs

Hey guys!

Just pushed v1.8.0 of REAPER-Notator, and it brings some much-requested workflow upgrades:

We now have an integrated MIDI Velocity & CC Lane Editor docked right on the screen. You can tweak velocities with handles, draw smooth linear CC curves (all 128 CCs supported), and interact with your automation in real-time for super fast iterations.

On top of that, Real and Fake Portamentos (hold-blending) and Glissandi are now fully implemented and audible in playback!

Also, huge thanks to everyone who reported issues with the SINE Player — the note audition and preview bug is officially solved and working cleanly now. Under the hood, the entire playback engine was overhauled to stay pinned at 30–70+ FPS even with 30+ tracks running.

help request How do I adjust FX levels in the track gui? (Little knob)

Hello, i am exporting tracks but they are coming out in Mp3 form without all effects. Then I discovered the volume (dB) knob in the track box itself. Do i understand correctly that if the FX knob on the track itself is at zero than no FX will be exported? I have been playing with Reaper for a couple weeks and I am now first discovering this mechanic.

help request Protools style track output settings

I’m looking for a way to simplify how my REAPER setup handles track outputs when using an external mixer/high channel AD converter. The biggest annoyance is having to open the routing window for each track I want to add a different channel output to, whereas in Pro Tools you can easily do it from track controls and cascade them with key modifiers. I have my theme set up to display sends from track controls, but it still opens up a separate window to route them. I’m also wondering if there’s a way to disable sending tracks to the master bus by default, and/or disable the master bus being automatically routed to outs 1-2.

For more context, I’ve recently started using my laptop for recording in my facility’s studio instead of the built-in computers in order to use the benefits of my REAPER setup with my plugins and soft instruments. I use a Macbook Air M3 and am connecting to the studio console via a Rednet interface over Dante.

help request Cursor issues

I'm currently running REAPER v7.82 on Windows 10.

After setting Mouse Modifiers -> Context: Media item lower half -> left drag -> Default action to "Select time ignoring snap", I noticed that there are now two cursors in the track. Right next to the I-beam cursor, there's an extra white arrow cursor. I've tried a few things but just can't seem to get rid of it. How can I remove this extra white arrow?

Also, when the I-beam cursor is hovering over the track, it doesn't invert color—it just stays black, making it really hard to see.

Is it a bug? What should I do? Thank you.

discussion Ok, I love reaper

I made a post on here a while back complaining about reaper crashing constantly, turns out it was the way some plugins were launching. but over last few months I've been able to build up a suite of free and opensource plugins and more recently chose to make reaper work for me instead of turning it into other daw's.

this has allowed me to discover the hidden strengths of reaper in its flexibility and how light weight it actually is. I'm on a Lenovo V15 ADA (A really mid school laptop) and it's not braking a sweat. I've made hiphop in reaper, I usually make film music

in a way I'm also a little mad at this cuss I spent 200 on logic and I've been able to replace it with reaper.... soooo yea

But there are still drawbacks

  1. the plugins - there's not many instrument plugins and finding good free ones led me down a rabbit hole that took me away from my music. who knows maybe in the future there might be a better suite with the paid version and you just get the basic plugins with the trial.

  2. you need to know what your doing - I've said it once and I'll say it again, logic is popular cuss its simple to use and has a lot of good plugins. it's user interface is easy on the eye's and It automatically colors tracks upon first entering reaper I never knew what to do. I never knew where everything was. I could be beneficial to have a small tutorial showing you where everything is and what reaper is meant to be for the user. some of these things could include showing the user how toolbars and shortcuts work and how you could make it accustomed to your workflow. also a track auto color feature would be nice.

But other than that I found reaper to be a really good DAW as once again you can turn it into whatever you want. don't get me wrong the scripts are nice, but there are something's that if added as a feature and not a mod would make reaper so much better to the user.

Overall I now have a more positive outlook on reaper and would love to see it take over other space in the music industry.
