Not even an engineer, but why would you take two Purdue math classes at once?

Yeah holy fuck don't do that. Math was one of my strongest subjects and I got fucked taking Diff EQ and Linear at the same time. Can't imagine learning multi and Diff at the same time

Don’t do 261 and 262 at the same time. I’m surprised that’s even an option.

came here to say the same damn thing

ik you probably want to graduate super early but id replace one of these classes with a gen elective if i were you

I thought 261 was a prereq for 262. Dont take both, if that isnt the case it absolutely should be. Just do calc 3 and a gen ed requirement

do not do two math classes at the same time here, it will only bring you suffering, also 159 is evil

I once took 2 math courses at the same time… pulled out my left shoulder muscle carrying those books around… it still bothers me sometimes…..truth…

My advisor for my major told me that often when people try and do 261 with another math class they withdraw from one or get a D in both

Will I die?

Probably.

Are any of those a 7:30? Then absolutely.

You will be miserable but it's possible if you don't like fun. No way you need to be this aggressive, theres humanities reqs you need to get done too so find some fluff

Something to consider: having a higher GPA earlier on in college will make it easier to land internships as a sophomore. Replacing one of these classes with a gen-ed can help with a GPA boost.

Ooh tell us more. Also do companies automatically say no to freshmen?

3

u/KingOfTheBritons96 19d ago

Yes, you must hate yourself to take 261 and 262 at the same time

What major are you doing ma 262? Nobody requires that anymore I thought. Just do ma 265 or ma 266

1

u/ACrabWithAWrench 18d ago

Well, a decade ago materials still required it, and with MSE 230 being there, could be that.

1

u/Own-Syrup65 18d ago

Oh yeah that is true, i mean I took ma 262 my freshman year as a mechanical engineer but they changed the curriculum the semester. I was taking at so there's like nobody else taking that class Anymore.

Yes… those engineering classes will take up a lot of your time… also, I would not even attempt that many hours…did your counselor see this?

u/Big_Marzipan_405 18d ago

no thats fine

I did 261 and 262 together and survived, but barely. I would recommend doing one of your humanities classes instead of 262

1

u/KryllyxOfficial 19d ago

I did 261 and 265 at the same time, and I hated my life. Don't. Just don't.

Yes. Tread carefully

Good luck bro

Don’t do calc 3 and diff eq at the same time.

1

u/ProductRelevant5045 18d ago

take either 262 or 261. no need to take them both at the same time

1

u/Below20 18d ago

If you really want to take two math classes at the same time, do linear and difEq together next fall

1

u/aiyanalam 18d ago

How are you taking 261 and 262 at the same time, 261 is a prereq for 262

1

u/Hecknawbro Alumni ‘24 18d ago

At least MSE230 is easy…

1

u/New_Guava_511 18d ago

Had this line up in high school, you should be fine.

1

u/Funny-Combination287 18d ago

Why multi and lin alg at the same time? Just take multi bro, no need to get so ahead, you’re already more than fine taking multivar calc

1

u/Classic-League6609 18d ago

okay why though like why are you even doing all that 😭

1

u/Agile-Eye-8390 18d ago

figuratively

1

u/Masta_Fwogg 14d ago

switch one of the math with a random elective like econ and you’re good

1

u/Used-Reporter5656 14d ago

For your math is you struggle at all or your prof sucks, Dr. Trefor Bazett on youtube has great courses on calc III, linear, and diff eq. He helped me get a 95% on linear

short answer: yest

u/Electronic-Towel-836 12d ago

Dead man walking.

1

u/FLYingFFEather 12d ago

yes, unless you've previously taken a multi var or diffi class.

1

u/thebiglarzilla 19d ago

Doesn't make sense to do, FYE advisor will second this.

Nah thats fine. I took ME 274, ME 200, ECE 2K1, ECE 264, ECE 2K7, MA 266, MFET 163 Spring of my freshman year and it was not bad. I was also a TA for CS 159 that sem

2

u/Glass_Buy2115 19d ago

Wow that’s a crazy semester

2

u/Bryanmaster64 18d ago

Bro had negative free time

1

u/CuriousIguana34 18d ago

Highkey I had a ton; I just have to manage your time well during the week and I was able to do whatever on weekends

u/Tonight-Bubbly 19d ago

Everyone in the comment section soft. Just add a spare class for fun just in case. You can drop one of the maths if it gets too bad at the drop by date. If this is spring u already have ur friend group set so u don’t have to spend too much time until the weather gets better making new friends.
