I always feel bad for the ones who have to clean that up.
but then I have to remember that if they try to stop them then the company doesn't pay for that. but they do pay for the hours upon hours of overtime it's going to take to clean all that up so...
13
u/pm_me_your_buds 10h ago
Eh, I’ve been in a similar situation and the story and break from the monotony is worth it.
And the other commenter is being obtuse, the workers either get overtime, or they just get go home while someone else cleans the remainder.

u/its_like_a-marker 10h ago
Nooooooo lol. Absolutely NOT. Walmart does not pay for OT
12
u/JiroKatsutoshi 10h ago
They pay it, then they yell and cut hours
This would have been a ppto moment(protected paid time off, used for whatever, whenever to not get a "point" on attendance) to dip because that's a managers job, they make more so their OT is worth it.
I do my part, and more, but I'm not paid enough to remodel the store after a human hurricane.
6
u/Scared_Garbage6190 10h ago
it what
Okay that means that shit is just gonna stay there until it's finished within allotted hours then.
3
u/GibberishAsshat 7h ago
Walmart will give you a promotion for stopping them, a promotion straight to customer.

2
u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 10h ago
if they try to stop them
Can be risky too bcz US has widespread gun ownership. It is not like other countries where you can jump into a conflict with empty hands and expect the other party to fight you with bare hands.
10
u/Euphemisticles 10h ago
You shouldn't expect that anywhere. Knives and sharp objects have been available for quite a long time or so I have heard.

Where I live there would be a strong possibility that at least one of the customers in this video would be lawfully armed. I am far more concerned about the visibly unstable individual becoming violent against people. The employees seemed to do a good job of staying out of his way and keeping customers at a distance while they waited for law enforcement. Let him rampage against stuff so long as he isn't hurting anyone. Escalation is the last thing that is needed.
1
u/olivegardengambler 6h ago
True, but how often does a bystander step in to stop someone? It's a lot less often than you think.
2
u/silentsinner- 5h ago
That is a last resort that no one wants to happen. People don't carry firearms to intervene. They do it to survive. Letting law enforcement step in is always preferable whether you are carrying or not.
1
u/Scared_Garbage6190 10h ago
I don't know who downvoted, but no that's a valid point. didn't we just see a video either last week or the week before where someone literally brought out a gun in a Walmart and shot the person they were arguing with? and just ARGUING with.
1
u/LordButtworth 5h ago
I'd see till keep a screw driver in my pocket. People die from getting punched in the head all the time.

Had something similar happen at a store I worked at 20yrs ago (of course on my day off!!). Started upstairs & knocked over displays in electronics and apparel, came downstairs & knocked stuff off shelves & displays in grocery, then went to the wine department with arms out and took out multiple aisles of wine (over $10k of damage just in wine dept alone). I remember our wine steward was pissed that no one stopped them before they got to his department, but no employee could touch him & it was up to the cops at that point. Don’t remember what happened to that person as I transferred out of the store shortly after, but it was a lot of destruction that a lot of people clean up.

u/rlpinca 9h ago
In Texas, they would charge that as criminal mischief. The penalty depends on the amount of damages. It jumps up to several years in prison pretty quickly.
Being pissed at a store just isn't worth 5-10 years of my freedom.
-9
u/EngineBoiii 8h ago
I think 5-10 years is a bit much.
At the end of the day its just merchandise that got damaged and can be replaced. Nobody got hurt. He should get 12 months or forced community service and pay for the damages.
7
u/Remarkable-Week-1467 8h ago
Lol no 5-10 Seems great maybe it should be 10-15. These people never learn and act like children. We shouldn't have adults like this out and about roaming the streets look at his pathetic impulsive behavior. Maybe next time he'll attack people instead of just merchandise.
-4
u/EngineBoiii 7h ago
I mean 10-15 is excessive. That's a long time for what is essentially a victimless crime. The only victim is the corporation.
4
u/Remarkable-Week-1467 7h ago
If you don't understand how destroying merchandise affects everyone overtime who works there and shop there then that's on you. But yeah you're so right it's a victimless crime maybe one day if you or someone you know ever start a successful business we can all come destroy your inventory and steal from you 😂.
-4
u/EngineBoiii 7h ago
Bro it's Walmart.
5
u/Remarkable-Week-1467 7h ago
I can see it's Walmart thanks for the heads up. What does it matter what store It is. It's his actions that are the problem how delusional can you people be ?
-2
u/EngineBoiii 7h ago
Bro you're acting like he's putting a small business owner out of business, it's just some merchandise from America's BIGGEST retailer. I doubt they're going to feel anything other than having to pay their workers overtime.
-2
u/NachoEvans 7h ago
I think I would have to agree with the guy above, however it depends on his prior history. Dude could have just been having a real shitty day. Maybe his partner cheated. Maybe he lost his job. Maybe he is having a mental breakdown. There are a lot of things that could be happening here that are not worth 15 years of someone's life, and as the guy above said, it's merchandise belonging to a multi-billion dollar company, nothing living was hurt.
3
u/Remarkable-Week-1467 7h ago
This is the problem with today. You're making excuses to act like this. There is never a reason to act like this in public at all. It's childish pathetic behavior. I've been cheated on, fired, had very bad day's and I never went around committing crimes and destroying property because of it. If you can't act like an adult and control yourself you have no business being in public. Also it doesn't matter who's stuff was destroyed or what company it's called morals and principles. Regardless it affects everyone because destroying and stealing merchandise from companies that everyone goes to means they'll start to lock things and increase prices on things because they start losing large amounts of inventory over time when people do this making everything inconvenient for everyone else who doesn't steal & destroy property & act civil.

u/Remarkable-Week-1467 7h ago edited 4h ago
Hey clown the multi billionaire company isn't the one who has to deal with the clean up, who has to deal with the unruly violent customer, who have to deal with things being locked away and charged more for items because inventory is destroyed. Use the brain you have inside that head of your's if you have one.
-2
u/NachoEvans 4h ago
Oh gosh. Some hourly employees have to do some cleanup at Walmart during their scheduled shift? The horror. Guess we better take 15 years away from this person's life. Walmart also has a policy of staying away from this so they don't get hurt, and if this person comes into the store with a gun to do harm, that's a whole other conversation.
2
u/Remarkable-Week-1467 4h ago edited 4h ago
I think you just like blowing the criminals and would rather cheerlead for them than the innocent people working hard who have to deal with his BS.
-2
u/NachoEvans 7h ago
Well congratulations on your infallible mental health. However the world, and human brains, are not black and white like that. Some people handle trauma differently, and some people go through trauma much worse than others. Your experience is not the experience that every other human is going to have.
5
u/Remarkable-Week-1467 7h ago
Again that doesn't make it okay, again if you're mentally unwell and can't handle a break up or cheating or being fired maybe again you don't deserve to be in public with the rest of us and maybe go to a mental health facility where they can be put on medication. What if they go do it again? And then again? What if next time they attack a person instead of just merchandise? You can't just excuse this behavior.
1
u/NachoEvans 7h ago
I'm not saying it's okay you fucking moron. I'm saying it's not worth 15 years of someone's life for just this. Punishment should fit the crime with prior history taken into consideration.
3
u/Remarkable-Week-1467 7h ago edited 7h ago
Clam down bud don't go destroying a store over my comment 😂. The punishment is fine to me. We need to get rid of idiots like this and you who condone it because little baby had a hard day as an adult. You also don't know his history or priors he could be known for this, could be a felon. If he acts like this in public who knows what else he would do. It's not even necessarily about the company it's about his actions & his willingness to do it.
-5
u/olivegardengambler 6h ago
Nah. Paying for damages and jail time is good. If you make the penalty too high, you're just guaranteeing people do more, because they're going to think, "Fuck, I'm already getting at least 5 years for this shit? Better make it worth it!"
3
u/Remarkable-Week-1467 6h ago
Who does that lol. You're Always presumed innocent until found guilty in court so who knows how court will go, it doesn't mean they'll automatically get 5-10 yrs but most People who go in & out of jail constantly to the point they're called jail bird's don't learn their lesson. They don't learn from their actions only serving a bit of time with fines. But almost every prisoner who has done real time almost always come out saying they'll never go back again. For most it's what they need as a wake up. Had a friend who did 7 yrs & said he'll never do anything stupid again, he goes to church and even started up a small business in autobody work, he said he always thinks twice & 3 times before doing something impulsive.

u/Nwsamurai 10h ago
I'm convinced that these videos convince idiots that this is an appropriate way to show frustration.
Not everyone who watches, but I bet for every 10,000 people who see this, one of them will be like, "Well I'm as mad as that guy was, so I should start making a mess!"

Honestly, what makes people feel like this is any kind of acceptable behavior? Do they completely lack any sense of empathy, or is this just massive main character syndrome and they think they're completely entitled to act like little fucking kids?
No, I take that back. Even my 6 year old knows not to throw a temper tantrum like this. This is just...pathetic. Every time I see someone acting this way, I just fail to comprehend the thought process, or even lack thereof.

😭, All the cops and weirdos at my local Walmart, I hate it. I’d rather spend more for a better shopping experience.
And don’t get me started with the locked underwear and other essential, I’ve waited 30 minutes one day just to get the damn door unlocked.

So what I want to know is who replaces the merchandise - does the person causing it pay, does the store take the loss and salvage what they can or does insurance cover the cost
3
u/ATMisboss 9h ago
What can be salvaged will be then insurance will pay out the store the amount insurance is willing to pay out. The insurance then goes after the guy who inevitably can't pay but that's why the store pays for insurance so the insurance has more than enough money to cover it and all is fine
3
u/Ass_Matter 9h ago
Walmart is self-insured. So they'd just eat the cost.
1
u/ATMisboss 9h ago
Figures, they are big enough for it. This sort of shrink isn't the biggest deal to them
1
u/ContentInsanity 6h ago
It's insured and there are profit margins baked in. You would have to be aware of how things are truly priced or do an insane amount of damage to actually hurt the store.

"Oil for the whip"
Can someone translate, or does OP have an actual whip that needs oil for some kind of maintenance issue?
15
5
5
3
2
u/Notsurehowtoreact 10h ago
So the proper care for a whip is actually a type of thick dressing to coat it, rather than a liquid material like oil. Oil is actually what they recommend against for the maintenance and care of whips because it's a common misconeption.
However whip is also a slang term for automobile, so they probably just mean some automotive oil.
So he is either improperly caring for a whip, or just getting some oil for a car in disrepair.

Why is it that the ppl who crash out/throw a tantrum never take full advantage? If you're gonna do all that at least grab some food and sip on some liquor. Munch on some expensive berries, make a whole effing sandwich, maybe some chips&queso while sipping the good tequila and trying on a few lipsticks or blushes and skincare. Make it worth it, don't just throw shit everywhere🤭 /s

I used to work retail back in the day:
There is absolutely no way I'm going to put my safety on the line to protect a multi-billion-dollar corporation's inventory. None.
I'll record that shit, I'll give a statement to the cops, and I'll testify in court (assuming I can get PTO to make the court appearance): That is the absolute most I'm prepared to do in the name of corporate paymasters.
