It used to be. I loved living in Austin so much. It was like all the cool parts of Texas, guns, bbq, big trucks for mudding, but it was hippy and progressive af. I left in 2018ish and that’s when it started to get bad. Basically when Austin started becoming the “new Silicon Valley” and a shit ton of tech bro white guys from California moved in and opened a million start ups.
I definitely miss the food from Austin and love visiting and hanging out at Arcade UFO, but I would never move back there

1000% this. Lived in Austin from 2008-2024. Loved it to begin with. Amazing music, affordable, always met awesome people, safe, traffic didnt suck...was a good time.

This is fairly normal in Austin. When people think of racism in Texas they think its all over- and to be fair, there are enclaves scattered across the state but frank racism is more seen in the very rural parts and Austin. Despite Austin being fairly "liberal", its more of a white hippie dippy sort of liberal that still doesn't care for minorities- particularly south east Asians and the black populous.
