Two people were killed and 16 injured in two separate incidents across Osaka Prefecture. This video shows one of them.

Is this something that happens frequently? Because that seemed dangerous even when things were still going well.

Yes, the high-speed cornering (yarimawashi) is part of the performance. The article mentions that too. Here's the wikipedia article about the festival.

Interesting read. It seems like it's one of those traditions where the risk of injury is somewhat accepted, like bullfighting.

Or like the downhill cheese wheel run in England.

if that's the case, do they have an excuse for not preparing for the rock-back??
did they overload the cart this time and couldn't account for the force?

my guess is that it's one of those traditions that people risk for fun like running with the bulls or chasing a cheese ball down a steep hill. gathers big crowds and everyone is happy and cheering till someone gets seriously injured or dies then everyone is like "shouldn't they have found a safer way of doing this?"

i guess a lot of extreme sports and 90s reality TV shows also fall into this category.
i'll stick to poolboarding lol

The answer is, they are mostly drunk and the majority of participants aren't engineers that understand the forces they are messing with, otherwise they would design the float for it or prepare the road to assist the turn.

Is this the first time people got killed and it was two in one day? How are there no other incidents mentioned on the page?

So this video shows one of what? One of the deaths? Looks like someone’s head might have been crushed. Could use a NSFL tag
