Where is this that a security guard is just shooting randomly and threatening to kill people?

- I think the security guard was no in imminent threat for his life and definitely put innocent people at risk of deadly harm by firing into the air randomly. In texas:
Class A Misdemeanor (Reckless Discharge): Under Texas Penal Code § 42.12, recklessly discharging a firearm within a municipality with a population over 100,000 is a Class A misdemeanor, with potential for up to 1 year in jail and/or a $4,000 fine.
Deadly Conduct (Felony): If the action places another person in imminent danger of serious bodily injury, it can be charged as "deadly conduct" under Texas Penal Code § 22.05, which is a third-degree felony. A third-degree felony carries a penalty of 2 to 10 years in prison.

Never been to Texas then?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Horn_shooting_controversy
Guy didnât even live there, no threat to anyoneâs lives whatsoever, was told by 911 to not go to the house, he said âbut stand your ground lawâ, went over and killed two people, one of them by shooting them in the back.
Got off Scott free.

An unidentified plainclothes police detective responding to the 911 call arrived at the scene before the shooting, and witnessed the escalation and shootings while remaining in his car.His report on the incident indicated that one of the men who was killed "received gunfire from the rear". Police Captain A.H.Corbett, a spokesman for the Pasadena Police Department, stated that the two men ignored Horn's order to freeze and that one of the suspects ran towards Horn before angling away from him and toward the street when they were shot in the back. The medical examiner's report could not specify whether they were shot in the back due to the ballistics of the shotgun wound.
Am I the only one that thinks this reads like a cover up? Local law enforcement and courts didn't want to convict a good ol boy for stopping a robbery so they made up a witness?
Hell the story says the whole reason the man went outside was because 911 was confirming that police were "on the way".
8
u/KombuchaBot Apr 19 '26
The medical examiner's report could not specify whether they were shot in the back due to the ballistics of the shotgun wound.
where did the medical examiner get his licence to practice, off a cornflake packet? Entry wound or exit wound sounds like a pretty basic distinction

This would require being charged and convicted in Texas. Depending on the county, they would never charge him. Oh wait⌠he has an accent! That changes everything
6
u/SRT102 Apr 19 '26
Yep. "Investigators used the video to help identify the guard as Carlos Campos Carrillo, who is now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and impersonating a public servant." Something tells me if his name were, oh, "Joe Horn" there would have been no charges.

Everyone is raggin on the urban explorers being dumb, but can we talk about the idiocy displayed by the security guard for :
Announcing hes a police officer (he isnt)
Firing a weapon at unarmed individuals to intimidate them (illegal, theres no self defense claim here)
Recording both of the above.... and then posting it online.

The urban explorers have everything on tape, if the owner prosecutes them they have a really good lawsuit on several grounds against the owner for the actions of their employee, even if its a contract employee. I know Texas and Stand your ground, and there is a history but cops do not like being impersonated.

People are going to hate me for this but that guard is clearly unstable and needs to be removed from his position, and above all else should not be allowed to own a firearm. Three negligent discharges is actually insane.
Edit: when I made this comment a lot of people were calling the Urban explorers dumb, so at the time I figured this would be an unpopular opinion I see now that it is not.

State records indicate Carrillo is a licensed security guard. Houston police confirmed Carrillo was arrested just days before this incident for allegedly firing multiple rounds at other trespassers at the same hotel. That case was later dismissed after prosecutors said it could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Now, Carrillo faces new charges and is wanted for the latest incident on March 1.

77
u/Fitz911 Apr 19 '26

...followed by the only reasonable thing to say.
*Americans will hate you for this. No sane person will. Also he shouldn't have a firearm. Like most people shouldn't. Because as we all know by now: civilians don't have the skill or the balls to form a "well organized militia" and guns are mainly used in an educational setting.
63
u/BagFullOfMommy Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26
American here, I assure you only the absolute dumbest of the bottom of the barrel idiots would hate or disagree with his statement.
The majority of us (myself included) who are pro gun ownership and pro self defense, are also incredibly pro responsible gun ownership and responsible gun handling. That security guard should not only be arrested and charged for firing off 'warning shots' (You never, ever, ever, fire a warning shot. Gun's are a last resort life and death option, not a 'get you to do what I want while I scare the shit out of you' option.), but he should be barred from any kind of security work / gun ownership for the rest of his life.

u/coko4209 Apr 19 '26
What? Iâm American and I donât hate them for their comment. Their comment makes perfect sense. That guard was out of his mind, and heâs being charged with 2 felonies.
21
u/Motor-Thanks974 Apr 19 '26
No, most Americans wonât condone negligent discharging a firearm. Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of basic gun safety is taught to know what is behind your target, and not to pull a trigger unless you intend to shoot who you are aiming at. You definitely donât go popping off random shots. Iâm not gonna get into the militia comment much you made as you obviously donât understand the intent behind the inclusion of the right to bear arms into the bill of rights, and Iâm not gonna explain the history and meaning of the second amendment and/or the historical meaning if âmilitiaâ during its drafting.
15
u/Towelie710 Apr 19 '26
You really know nothing about the average American if this is what you actually think lol. That guy impersonated a cop and not only used his weapon for intimidation but actually fired rounds off. You canât use guns as a form of intimidation only for self defense, if you draw a weapon on someone there needs to be an actual threat to your life or others around you. No one here is gonna go to bat for this guy, he is a completely irresponsible gun owner and should not have access to firearms

Investigators used the video to help identify the guard as Carlos Campos Carrillo, who is now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and impersonating a public servant.
One victim told investigators she urinated on herself out of fear during the confrontation, according to charging records.

If this is the US that dude belongs in prison. A few things you cannot do with a gun include:
- fire off shots in the air to intimidate people (or really for any reason, same with warning shots).
- cannot threaten to kill someone who presents no present danger to you.
- shoot at someone actively fleeing/running away from you.
Idk where this took place but that person has no business having a gun, never mind being a security guard.

"Castle Doctrine" (Texas Penal Code §9.31-9.32) justifies deadly force if you reasonably believe it is immediately necessary to prevent unlawful entry. If you are on someoneâs land you canât shoot them but if they break into your building you can.

Not just abandoned, though that can be a big part of it. Things like exploring hard-to-access portions of a city park (e.g. by a cave system) or sewer systems / tunnels (not abandoned but public infrastructure that's off limits) would fall under urban exploration as well.

It's really sad that there's a sense of entitlement - for anyone. Some immigrants go to the country and turn against their kinds. The ones who have a better life will claim that they 'worked hard' for it, as if they never got help from others.

u/nipslippinjizzsippin Apr 19 '26
"Urban explorers" That just looks like an occupied building they are not exploring so much as they are trespassing.
31
u/Smooth_Maul Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26
You'd be surprised how many abandoned buildings are literally just left as is with all the stuff inside. What, you think the business that can't stay open for financial reasons is gonna have the money to clear the building of all the stuff in it? It's much cheaper to just abandon all the stuff inside as well as the building itself, it's why you see so much footage of old abandoned hospitals overflowing with old medical equipment and patient records.
Hell there's an abandoned WWE HQ in Connecticut I think that has 2 entire gyms full of abandoned high quality equipment, WWE has all the money to remove that shit, but it's just cheaper to leave it to rot than to keep hold of it.
EDIT: Found a video of the abandoned WWE HQ, if you didn't tell me it was abandoned I'd have thought they broke into an actively used building.

10
u/Slow-Goat-2460 Apr 19 '26
It is, but a lot of those places are blocked off and illegal to enter.
A lot of laws were tightened up after 9/11, and exploring metro tunnels, or sewer systems, can have terrorism related charges now.
It can be extraordinarily illegal to do even basic, harmless things
