Indie artists: 24/7 lo-fi/ambient radio accepting submissions

Indie artists, let's share the airwaves!

I run a 24/7 lo-fi / ambient / alt-rock radio stream on YouTube (AshRaven). It's a small, human-curated station, no algorithms, no bots.

I'm opening the airwaves to independent musicians. If you make lo-fi, ambient, chill, alt-rock, or something in between, send your tracks.

How to submit:

I'll listen to everything. Selected tracks go into rotation with artist credit. No fees, no strings, just music.

Let's keep independent music alive together.

Are there any Creative Stem Separators that can separate by frequency, timbre or an equation?

I stem split an old track of mine that I lost the project file to and then normalized one of the layers that looked like it was just silence and I got an amazing sounding high frequency layer. Id love to do this kind of thing on purpose

Looking for equipment recommendations

Hello to all who may or may not see this , beginner artist here looking for anyone with an idea of what gear/equipment I’d need to work with a producer long distance or locally . Im happy to spend a bit of money as long as it gets me in the direction of where I can make better quality music and there’s not many producers in my area so being able to record vocals and etc to send would be a must i imagine. Sorry if I sound a little silly with these questions also .

Most important specs for a music production laptop

I'm going to replace my old laptop with a new one (probably during black friday) and I would still go for Windows.

From what I understood (but correct me If I'm wrong) the most important specs are:
- RAM (16 GB or 32 GB)
- fast storage (SSD)
- low latency DPC (sometimes cool graphic cards don't help)
- good processor (which one?)

It would be cool if someone who's using any Windows laptop for music production could suggest me a specific laptop model.

Question Laptop Advice

I’m looking to buy a new laptop for production but all the research I’m getting is either giving me different answers or confusing the hell out of me.

I’d be using the laptop for both writing and production of metal/rock. For recording I’ll be using MIDI drums (GGD), Midi Bass (Djinn Bass 2), and I’ll likely be using midi instruments/synths such as vital, serum or alt textures by cradle audio. All guitars and vocals recorded in via Focusrite interface.

Then for when I’m mixing and mastering all tracks will be frozen/bounced to avoid issues using multiple plugins.

Research has told me that I need: 1TB SSD, 32GB Ram, active cooling and an i7 or ryzen 7 processor but I’ve also seen I need more cores but I don’t really understand the difference between different generations of processors.

My budget is around £700. Would really appreciate some advice.

What’s the hardest part of getting your music from production to a live event?

For those who produce music and also work with artists or live events, what do you find most difficult when moving from a finished track to an actual live performance?

Is it finding the right musicians, arranging the set, getting the right venue, sound setup, promotion, or something else?

I’m curious how different producers approach the transition from studio production to live performance.

Business Looking for a studio to record VO with a high profile client in Dublin

Hi folks - please nuke this post if this is against the rules (promotion?), but I'm looking for a pro studio in Dublin to do a VO session with a high profile client later this month. I have a running list of options (Paradise Studio, Jungle Beam, Avatar) but curious if there are any Dubliners in this sub who may have insight.

Thanks either way

Question Trying to get closer to the little nuances in this drum sound :)

Hey!!!

I’m trying to get similar results to this drum break I absolutely love and so far I have come up short with every test I’ve done. Wondering if anyone in here can help get some of the qualities I’m hearing. https://open.spotify.com/track/3hilNpBLALtQVAHwhYSLs8?si=PDybsch1Sk2qVFpXKt-tCQ&utm\\_source=copy-link

The drums come in around 16 seconds. It’s a classic (or maybe not so classic) Kevin Parker drum sound. I have mini meters setup to analyze the stereo width, spectrum and audio file and so far what I’ve gathered is it’s very “compressed” and controlled sounding but the peaks are clipped or limited to bits. It’s also not mono whatsoever.

So far my tests have been 4 mics. Kick, snare top, shell and overhead and mainly hearing the shell and kick in the reference. What I’ve tried so far is shell mic into a Dbx165a and set the knobs in a way that sounds pretty good. But it’s very much lacking the attack and body/release in the reference. Specifically on the kick drum, to me it sounds like some parallel stuff going on with the kick drum and then the shell has the 165a on it and then slightly panned to the right. The other thing that’s confusing is I’m hearing some reverb on the snare, to me it sounds like a plate verb, and maybe on the track itself before the 165a and so therefore mono but panned to the right and then the kick is more in the middle giving that width.

This is by no means a “professional” drum sound but it’s baked with character. I know I’m not going to get 1/1 recreation but I want to nail the little nuances I’m hearing in the ADSR of the sound.

Any tips/insights are very much appreciated!!!

Question (Headphone Advice) ADAM H200 vs DT 770 PRO X: Which should I get?

ADAM H200: CA$194.00 + tax

DT 770 PRO X: CA$299.00 + tax

Most reviews seem to rank the ADAM H200 as the better option. However, the Beyerdynamic has a classic, well-established sound signature. Considering everything, which one should I get?

  1. I’m not a professional.

  2. I do my own mixing and mastering

  3. I don’t have any acoustic treatment.

  4. I produce bass-heavy music, mainly Bass House, Slap House, and similar genres.

Can anyone identify the hard percussion/drum in Tyler, The Creator’s “St. Chroma”?

I heard this percussion/drum sound in “St. Chroma” by Tyler, The Creator. Does anyone know what kind of drum this is, where the original sample might come from, or a one-shot/sample pack with a very similar sound?

Thoughts on different genres on the same album?

Hi there! I'm working on writing an album and while I'm usually known for rocking out, I'm working on something that has very Manchester Punk vibes, 90's rock w/ rapping (think Beck-ish) and some warm synth dance music. I've got lots of songs in the bank but these are my favorites and I'm wondering what your thoughts are on albums that are "genre-fluid"?

how to make a song that sounds like the cure by OR

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

do not get me wrong i don’t want to copy/plagiarize her song. the cure to me sounds like this

intro verse 1 & 2: tension and despair in a niche way, like if you were disappointed and you were whispering while having your knees to your chest. like speaking your mind

bridge: it kind of extends the despair but with a build up in the background. and that’s that raw “i hate myself” type energy and at the end of the bridge where it says “it’ll never be the cure” it’s like disappointment and sadness

when she says “baby im unraveled” and it just builds up its like a panic attack honestly. it starts with a whisper than it’s full on yelling and that kind of feels like freeing

and at the end is like running in the rain and you feel the rain drops on your body and you feel free and you accept the reality you’re living and it’s sad but you accept.

i’m sorry for all the details but i really want a melody to sound like that. like something so tensile and despair like that would make me want to run in the rain and scream and cry and feel freeing. i’m not sure if im making sense but i really need to dig into dan nigro’s brain because the cure is genius.

summary: i need a melody/chord progression ideas to produce a song like the cure.

i want people to feel like they also have a song like this to scream to after the cure ends haha

First title record on fl studio :)

Hey everyone!

I just released my first track under the name Zidanimal — Pain.

It's a mix of Deep House, Electro and Trance, produced entirely in FL Studio.

I'm still learning and I'd really appreciate some honest feedback on the track, especially the overall vibe and production.

Thanks for listening 🖤
