Anyone who's ever heard John Oliver talk about his path to citizenship, assisted as he was by lawyers for his corporate employers of the time, understands that the path to U.S. citizenship is a minefield that seems to have been designed to make it near impossible for anyone to reach the finish line.

I mean, that's an exageration since clearly many do get there. But it's seriously enligthening to consider how many twists and turns his path had, as an English-speaking white man who already had a secure job making lots and lots of money. And then you start to think how it must be very different for people who don't have his privilege.

And then you consider how Ilhan Omar was a literal child when she reached U.S. shores as a refugee.

I'm glad Mamdani lent his support. But the racism inherent to going after Omar was clear enough already.

u/FDLC84 5h ago

I’ll have to check it out because I went through the process. Never hired a lawyer and it was relatively easy, I filled all the forms myself and went to the interview myself. I specifically remember studying the book and when I showed up to the interview they guy asked me what I did for a living and my educational background. That was the only thing he asked then he gave me citizenship.

-14

u/Alone_Ad8910 10h ago

It’s almost like that’s because the path to citizenship SHOULD be difficult and isn’t actually a racist process. Hence why an English speaking white male with a job had difficulty.

10

u/Lithl 8h ago

Why should citizenship be difficult?

-6

u/Alone_Ad8910 8h ago

Because there are finite jobs, finite housing, finite resources.

12

u/Lithl 8h ago

TIL immigrants are incapable of creating jobs or building houses.

-10

u/Alone_Ad8910 7h ago

Maybe one day you can learn how to think deeper than surface level. Nobody said immigrants can’t create jobs or build houses
.. I said it should be difficult to obtain citizenship so that the immigrants who bring that value are allowed in and the ones who don’t aren’t. You think jobs and houses just appear magically when someone steps foot over the border? You think there is no lag in markets adjusting? Houses spring out of the ground and land mass doubles? Are you too dense to realize land is finite, and the less of it that is available, the more expensive housing becomes? You think in addition to that, simply having more demand than supply inflates housing prices too? You think maybe having 10 people applying for the same job instead of 5 might drive that wage down? Use some brain power toward actual thought instead of dedicating all 100% of it to being a pretentious sarcastic ass

1

u/Technical-Command867 1m ago

Yeah, it’s almost like companies like Blackrock and Blackstone shouldn’t be buying up all the houses that individuals want to buy for their families and driving up the cost of houses making it difficult for young people to start their families. Stop blaming immigrants and use your brain. Greedy rich people are hurting Americans. Not poor people trying to have a better life.

-16

u/Ok_Nefariousness9579 9h ago

If it was near impossible then why do we have so many legal immigrants?

9

u/NoCharge497 8h ago

Youre thinking of a different number. Legal immigrants is anyone who moves to another country for the purpose of living there. Legal immigrants include green card holders, some visas (ones without specific time limits), refugees/asylum seekers, etc.

In FY 2024, ~1.4 million people were granted green cards (around half were already here through other means like asylum and visa) and ~100,000 asylum applications were accepted. So about 1.5 million new permanent immigrants into the US. Compare that to the ~800,000 naturalized in the same time. (Numbers from Office of Homeland Security)

For naturalization you must be a permanent legal resident and live here 5 years, be married to a citizen and live with them for 3 years, or serve in the military for 1 year. (USCIS)

Why should an immigration enforcement agency be looking into a US Citizen's finances and not one of the other 23 agencies we have that are geared towards that?

Dude, your guys has made $3 bil since in office. What financial red flags are you not seeing? Of course I’m clapping when the felon was raided after that traitor stockpiled tons (TONS!) of classified materials that incriminated him in Mar a lago. I hope his family and all other criminals in this administration also get raided and end up in jail.

6

u/Legendarien1 9h ago

Oh so they fixed the Russian bot farms, nice.

Your guy was storing classified documents in a bathroom after he left the presidency following his attempt at an insurrection.

The bathroom at his large hotel frequented by known Russian agents, in an unlocked easily accessible room. A clear and present violation of the espionage act.

4

u/icemanpallmall 9h ago

What financial questions exactly?

You mean the investigations that have turned up nothing? I think the better question is why are you ok with constantly wasting government resources on some race bait?

2

u/Lithl 8h ago

They were given new marching orders to claim it's weird for a woman to suddenly be worth millions after marrying a millionaire.

2

u/WillieNolson 8h ago

Didn’t they try this one already?

6

u/Nerd-man24 11h ago

Keep clapping at all of the awful things he says. It's worked real well so far.

Such an obvious bot accounglol

4

u/s1ckBruh 7h ago

Isn’t it crazy that some bot on twitter can say ‘Tim Walz drinks horse semen!’ Or ‘Omar effs her brother!’ And maga will be convinced it’s true, but then you tell them ‘the guy that you simp for is listed thousands of times in a report detailing a giant pedophile sex ring’ and they’re like ‘you have no proof!’

15

u/hyphenssuck 11h ago

We all know what this is. Even the ones who hide behind their chants of "follow the law".

If you want my opinion, we should hold trump and his entire family, and all his close associates to the standard of accountability they're promoting here. And deport them to Somalia, or really anywhere that would be willing to take them.

-17

u/PraisingEastward 11h ago

Isn’t that what they tried to do before the 2024 election though?
I’m not a fan of Trump, but it seems pretty obvious that they looked every single way to get him with the legal system.
It’s not shocking that he’s going to turn around and do the same thing. The precedent has been set. The new rules of engagement are clear, and this is what we’ll be dealing with whenever the party control flips.
The future is now. And it’s not bright (by any standard of the word).

9

u/Antique-Coach-214 10h ago

Right. So, let’s talk, then about what the state of New York found.

So far, we have 34 counts of Felony falsifying business records. The statues have a suggested sentence of 1.75-4 years, per count.

Now, the judge, did not sentence him, yet, because Trump got to use his campaign as a screen.

Trump cannot appeal yet, because he doesn’t have a sentence. But, if we were to get Trump sentenced, this is a state matter. Appeal can take several months to years, he SHOULD be in prison, until the appeal is done.

Thats what the law says.

Also the Federal Case that Canon mishandled in a way that should be a sedition charge, was being appealed, and then the documents case disappeared because the AG office wouldn’t pursue their own boss.

Now, if you would like, to produce some more Lala land bullshit rebuttal, just remember, I have facts and God on my side, and you have an orange man with a shit filled mouth and a shit filled diaper you can suckle on.

-2

u/Ok_Nefariousness9579 9h ago

The real statute says they had to change laws just to charge him, you seem to have left that out.

4

u/Antique-Coach-214 9h ago

That’s
 magical thinking
I mean like, Deadpool with a Unicorn, using it as a harness to ride your ass levels of magical thinking.

1

u/TheRealScaramucci 1h ago

That's a bullshit conservative narrative repeated ad nauseam (because you heard some grifter saying it) that doesn't make the slightest sense if you understand how anything works.

-2

u/PraisingEastward 9h ago

Right. I’m aware of that. And it’s not even my contention that DJT is innocent of these charges.

But if you were capable of producing a single shred of critical thinking, you would be able to look at this case in question and realize that these charges are exceedingly rare, and in some ways, wholly unprecedented.

But honestly, I don’t think you are capable, and even if you were, I don’t think you’d care. Because you already made your mind up, despite whatever the facts may be. And nothing will change that, because your biases have been affirmed and you believe that you’re “on the right side of history”, so anything that ‘your side’ does is righteous and justified. Kind of like “the ends justifies the means”.

And again, I literally hate Trump and believe his presidencies have been some of the worst things to happen to America. If I liked the guy, I don’t know why I would lie about it. But your brain has sunk SOOO deep into the hivemind that you have become completely blind and oblivious to nuance, and in turn, truth.

But hey, you got God on your side, right? So keep fighting the good fight, regardless of the truth, the facts, and the cost. Every war worth fighting has some collateral damage, am I right?

7

u/Antique-Coach-214 9h ago

Wait, wait a second, YOUR RIGHT, it IS unprecedented that the FORMER POTUS was so corrupt and in such illegal behavior, that he should have been held to the highest standards, because if we did not hold the POTUS to a standard than we cannot hold anyone to a standard and it might as well be the purge, instead.

But, I’ve been thinking critically about the state of our union since Bush v Gore, because I was 8 and told that my vote doesn’t get to count and that bothered me. What I learned since then is that the system is corrupt and the swamp is real, but Republicans have been the center of that corruption since Reagan.

Do me a favor, Princess, go shine your daddy’s tiny mushroom with your lips the way he likes.

4 month old account. Presenting a both sides argument. Hidden post and comment history.

Is it really surprising when I actually look at their comment history it's just a lot of:

  1. Black men are way more likely to be gay than other groups
  2. Black people are violent and dangerous
  3. Black people are stupid and have low IQ
  4. The COVID vaccine was a hoax

Yes, for sure this is a left leaning person who is not a fan of Trump. In other news, I am Pikachu.

0

u/Alone_Ad8910 10h ago

Don’t try to reason with these people. Trump bad. Anyone who opposes Trump good. Anything people who oppose Trump do is acceptable and they are without sin. I also don’t like Trump but it’s exhausting to listen to these self righteous Redditors pretend to have morals.

3

u/superarash_ 9h ago

I do agree on principle and I fully agree in practice that we should have a high scrutiny for all politicians democrat or republican. Bc there are some absolutely terrible people on either end of the spectrum.

But on the other side of things, I genuinely cannot remember the last thing Trump did that has positively impacted my life. And every decision he does make has essentially ass fucked me and millions of other Americans. So when I hear his name, I do tend to have a bit of a guttural internal reaction. And my experience tells me anything with his name attached is bad news, since he has proved time and time again that he values his own personal interests at the expense of everything else.

So essentially, I personally believe that all politicians can be bad. But anything with Trump’s hand in it will make me automatically suspect of it simply due to his track record.

1

u/PraisingEastward 10h ago

Couldn’t agree more. The whole “when their team does it, it’s evil/fascist/literal Nazis, but when our team does it, it’s righteous/deserved/the ‘right side of history’!” -approach is exhausting.

I swear there must be very few things as isolating and alienating as being someone on the left who can appreciate nuance.

Honestly, when I realized just how many people make all of their decisions based on only their feelings, it has made seriously question democracy. Especially now that we have social media and algorithms that feed on our outrage, I’m not certain that the general public should be responsible for making adult decisions. (I mean, this is precisely why we have DJT in office, after all. Not the only reason, obviously, but definitely one of the prime reasons- if not the prime reason.)

1

u/Alone_Ad8910 9h ago

Well said. A lot of the uninformed and emotional people whose vote counts just as much as the most rational and well informed persons does. It’s wild to see the cognitive dissonance from such large groups of people. Very discouraging. Unfortunately, that is still the lesser of two evils. Two uninformed groups of people using one another’s representatives to hold the others in check is still better than letting a bunch of rich powerful people decide for themselves. (Not that a fair amount of that doesn’t go on behind the curtain, but at least right now they have to hide it)

Money Fraud Immigration Fraud

0

u/Kindly_Detective9149 6h ago

Ilhan Omar is accused of committing immigration fraud and potentially illegal money laundering. Her problems have nothing to do with disagreeing with the White House. If she broke the law, she needs to pay the price! What do democrats say? Oh, yeah! No one is above the law! Eat it!!

1

u/Aggressive-Gene5568 2h ago

You are right, no one is above the law. So what is the evidence she committed either of these things? I see a ton of republican talking heads repeating these over and over with little to no proof. And why did the federal government, specifically orange man’s thugs try to prosecute her..,oh right, because of her comments about the orange man
.seriously, you sheep are gullible
.

Hint. I’ll offer you some help. The immigration fraud was from some anonymous post on a forum
.great basis for an investigation..
The illegal money laundering is guess what, not proven whatsoever. You are somehow combining trumps rant about Somalis in Minnesota with the financial disclosure for hr and her husband, of which she was cleared by a congressional office.

Either way though. You are right. Investigate EVERYONE. Let’s see which party comes out cleaner. Both of them will have dirty people for sure. But hint, it won’t be the democrats filling out the corrupt numbers as high as the “good ol’ boys”

1

u/BaileyD77 2h ago

Nancy Pelosi was working in government since Kennedy was president. I don't think this is a road you want to go down.

1

u/Aggressive-Gene5568 2h ago

I hate Nancy Pelosi. Let’s do it. I hate the old guard on both sides of the aisle especially. If I have to knock down a few of my own party for their crimes, so be it. The republican side will be empty when we are done

Democrats will probably never win the office again 😂 why can’t they just be normal in their politics and stop catering to the loud minority?

3

u/qrowslament 3h ago

Ok ... explain what you mean here?

-15

u/OT_Militia 11h ago

Of course he does; she's one of them. And I just love how Mr. President made a few thousand dollar booking error in his finances, and he becomes a felon, but the second a Democrat, a muzlim women Democrat makes a million dollar "booking error", it's fine. đŸ€Ł

10

u/herohawk22 10h ago

34 felonies actually, so that would be 34 booking errors.

Not sure I want my president to fail that much at taxes, could be representative of other shortcomings And paperwork errors

-11

u/OT_Militia 10h ago

Right! 34 misdemeanors a New York judge bumped up to felonies, and still accounting for less of an error than Omar "accidentally" made.

6

u/Blazeland_USA 10h ago

Were you on the jury?

4

u/no_kids-and-3_money 10h ago

You don’t have to spend your time on social media defending crimes other people have committed.

-1

u/OT_Militia 7h ago

I'm not defending Omar.

4

u/BeanCheezBeanCheez 8h ago

And a jury chosen by diddling Donny’s attorneys found him guilty.

5

u/herohawk22 10h ago

Thank god she can't run for president! Having a criminal as a commander in chief just seems really problematic and a poor decision for the long term health of our nation.

-1

u/OT_Militia 7h ago

Correct. Having a real criminal in power would be detrimental, but I don't think it would be as bad as having a Democrat; I mean look at the top ten states with the highest cost of living. Nearly all of them are ran Democrats.

2

u/Anonybibbs 6h ago

Look at the top 10 states with the worst education outcomes, highest poverty rates, lowest median wages, lowest life expectancies, highest child mortality rates, highest maternal mortality rates... they're mostly Republican-led states.

2

u/herohawk22 6h ago

You cannot be reasoned with.

"I'd rather have a criminal than a Democrat" Definitely something someone of rational mind can conclude

3

u/taotdev 7h ago

First degree falsification of business records has always been a felony in NY. It's second degree which is a misdemeanor

BS according to whom? He was convicted by a jury that had to be agreed on by the prosecution and the defense.

The prosecution agreed to the evidence. Anything they didn't agree with would either have been thrown out for lacking merit, or kept because the claim of inadmissibility was determined to be false.

“It’s bad when the other team does it but righteous when my team does it” -ahh comment.

1

u/TheRealScaramucci 1h ago

Being too stupid to understand the very obvious differences is not proof that "both sides" do it.

2

u/no_kids-and-3_money 10h ago

That’s not what fascism is. Fascism is the merging of state and corporate power. Which
look around. We’ve got CEOs and corporate leaders in the halls of power.

1

u/Solo-1UP 9h ago

Is that what fascism is nowadays? So every country is fascists because if you believe for one second any western nation is not controlled by corporations, that’s delusional

1

u/no_kids-and-3_money 6h ago

That’s what fascism has always been, based on the leaders that literally created the political ideology saying it.

And no, not all western nations are controlled by corporations. All of them are uncomfortably close and have serious problems, but not every country has unelected and unaccountable people like Elon Musk canceling programs voted on by elected representatives and real estate moguls like the president’s son in law negotiating with nations we’re at war with about things he has a personal financial stake in.

1

u/Solo-1UP 6h ago

Idk what definition you’re looking at but corporations controlling the govt is not fascism
The government controls everything and answers to no one.
Although you may be referring to when corporations cooperate with such govts because it’s beneficial to them for survival
Maybe you mean corporatocrocy or corporatism which in all honesty, did not know existed until just looking it up

11

u/SilverSageVII 11h ago

Okay Mr. Lawbreaker. I’m sure you’ve broken laws and never had anybody come after you. Crossed a street without a crosswalk? Then I’ll say the same to you: if you don’t wanna follow the laws don’t come here (even if you were born here apparently). Use your thinking cap buddy, laws aren’t morals.

-10

u/Solo-1UP 11h ago

Safe Jaywalking is legal in California so bad example bud đŸ€Ł

5

u/SilverSageVII 11h ago

Ever have a drink before 21? Ever got behind the wheel after a drink (even if not intoxicated)? Yeah shush you’ve broken laws just like everybody else. Just law argument is something you should look into as well, but frankly I’m positive that you’re ONLY arguing this because you’ve never had to struggle and you think you earned everything you have. I can’t win against that level of delusion so let’s just agree to go our separate ways. You can go live in your delusion and I’ll be out here with the rest of humanity trying to fix what you and everyone else voted to happen.

1

u/Solo-1UP 11h ago

I didn’t have my first drink until 29
And that goes without saying that I’ve never gotten behind the wheel after a drink
So again, wrong
Struggle? Don’t pretend you had struggles you’re whole life

2

u/Anonybibbs 6h ago

I didn’t have my first drink until 29

Yeah, that's hella apparent.

-1

u/Solo-1UP 6h ago

Thank you?

2

u/Anonybibbs 5h ago

Not a complement. Abstaining from alcohol completely your entire life is reasonable and even respectable. Not having your first drink until 29 demonstrates either a pathetic lack of self-professed conviction, or more likely, a brutally obvious social ineptitude. Based on your comments, I'm going to assume that it is the latter.

1

u/Solo-1UP 5h ago

You’re absolutely right. Thanks for pointing out how pathetic I and most people are đŸ™đŸ»
You’re such a saint

1

u/SilverSageVII 10h ago

Okay man than congratulations. You’re one of the people who gets everything handed to you and still chooses to keep it for only themselves. You might think I can’t argue but this isn’t an argument. Just a reminder that the rest of us know people like you are racist and bigoted. I’m sure the next Klan meeting would love to hear about how you “owned the libs on Reddit.” That good makes it pretty hard to see everyone pointing their pitchforks and torches at you doesn’t it?

0

u/Solo-1UP 9h ago

I wish everything was handed to me. Then I wouldn’t have to work or do anything and I can just stay home and play games all day and not care about anyone else really
Racists and bigoted your go to labels got it ok what else
Owned Libs on Reddit? I don’t think I’ve owned anyone
Actually I think I’m pretty civil. Let’s see have I put you down in anyway? Let me check. Nope never said anything negative about you this whole interaction
In fact, the only hate has been coming from you

That’s perfectly fine! Laws are meant to change and I follow.
But please enlighten me, how should I be very afraid?

3

[deleted]

u/Solo-1UP 11h ago

What does that even mean?? Just come out and say it
You can even DM me if you’re afraid whatever you have to say will get you banned.

3

u/Community_Chronicler 10h ago

Nah, we absolutely can. Or even better just Livestream something funny happening to them here.

2

u/humbugonastick 10h ago

Let's start then with Musk and Melania Trump.

1

u/Solo-1UP 9h ago

We can start with every non American born citizen someone doesn’t like

6

u/Rambo_Baby 11h ago

What about leading a country when you’ve actively not followed any of the laws in the country like your Saintly Donnie? Thats okay with you, I expect.

6

u/M0ebius_1 11h ago

Which law?

Also she is not visiting.

0

u/Solo-1UP 11h ago

The same law Trump should technically be in jail for, cooking the books

How can one come to the country with nothing, suddenly be 30M richer and then suddenly say “oopsie, it was a booking error teehee, I only have 95K”

-14

u/MJ1199 11h ago

Didn't you know, laws only apply to right wing fascists

6

u/Careless_Film_5747 11h ago

They don’t, which is why Trump and Musk keep getting away with breaking them.

-19

u/nobodyspecial712 11h ago

Too bad she doesn't actually represent Americans. She prefers Somalians, which is fine. She should go run for government in Somalia, where her true loyalty lies.

After she is tried for treason here.

3

u/no_kids-and-3_money 10h ago

Username incorrect. You are truely special. Every word more incorrect.

1

u/Confron7a7ion7 6h ago

You're the reason I want it to be ok to say the R word again.

-16

u/Bunkerbuster12 11h ago

Trump is weaponizing judicial system. Which is basically what the Democrats did to him in 2023 in 2024.

5

u/Anonybibbs 6h ago

Trump was found guilty of 34 felonies and civilly liable for rape by a jury of regular, everyday Americans. I don't know wtf you're talking about.

3

u/BeanCheezBeanCheez 8h ago

What crime did Omar commit?

-18

u/Longjumping_Tap9310 11h ago

When your net worth goes from $30m to under $100k because of an "accounting error"...that might be something people want to look into. When you value your winery between $1m and $5m on your original disclosure, and then close it 9 days after your amended disclosure shows no value at all....people might have questions.

Nobody above the law right?

10

u/BigTex1969 11h ago

Did you learn that on Fox?

-1

u/Longjumping_Tap9310 7h ago

I don't watch fox....but I did verify it....so instead of being ignorant, tell me where I am wrong. It is all public record.

8

u/M0ebius_1 11h ago

So call what, the IRS?

What the hell does DHS have to do with it?

0

u/Longjumping_Tap9310 7h ago

How do I know. I don't even know this is what is being investigated. I do know it is true though.

2

u/M0ebius_1 7h ago

Do you know if people who investigate money things should investigate money things?

1

u/Longjumping_Tap9310 5h ago

You think the IRS is the only agency that investigates money things? Does the IRS investigate Medicaid fraud?

1

u/M0ebius_1 5h ago

Now you are thinking! There are dozens of answers less stupid than sending DHS.

1

u/Longjumping_Tap9310 5h ago

The investigation is being done by HSI....a division of DHS....you do realize they investigate financial crimes right? money laundering, fraud...that kind of money thing.

1

u/Anonybibbs 6h ago

Seems like you don't know much of anything at all, tbh.

1

u/Longjumping_Tap9310 5h ago

Other than everything I posted is accurate.

4

u/Gainztrader235 11h ago

Trump is a convicted felon over falsified business records, yet we’re supposed to shrug off an alleged seven-figure accounting discrepancy? Lol.

And if the judge who signed off was appointed by Obama and accepted Democratic donations, do you really think he’d risk his reputation and longstanding political ties without a serious reason?

-20

u/Maleficent_Fix_1688 11h ago

She weaponized it by cheating her way in.

12

u/LieutenantSandbag 11h ago

How? She was brought here as a child and has been legally nationalized. This is a slippery fuggin slope dawg
