Iowa. Prove you are not stupid.

107

u/Chewsdayiddinit 6h ago

Oh they'll continue with the stupidity.

59

u/Milky66Winkyy 6h ago

Seriously. Being in office for over half a century is wild enough on its own, but planning to serve past 100 is just absurd. We need term limits and age caps yesterday, politics shouldn't be a career you hold until your 100s.

26

u/Carebear7087 5h ago edited 4h ago

Honestly it’s a win for the Democrats either way.. If Chuck loses.. a Democrat is in.. if Chuck Wins, Sand will likely be Governor, and will get to appoint whoever he wants (Most likely a Dem) when Chuck eventually passes away. Then that Democrat, will likely get reelected as the incumbent, once the term is up.

The greatest service Chuck could do for the GOP, would be to step down now and endorse a successor so that Reynolds could quickly appoint the person. Which would give that person the incumbent edge next cycle.

13

u/Negative-Wrap95 4h ago

I hate how much sense that actually makes.

4

u/Carebear7087 4h ago

Shush… I like to keep expectations low. Otherwise people expect it all the time.

Nobody who is working hard at their job wants to work to 100. These guys working to 100 are proof that they are just slacking off every day.

At this point we're not electing leaders, we're electing nursing home residents who refuse to retire. If you get a senior discount at Denny's you shouldn't be writing laws for people who can't afford rent.

4

u/the_brunster 4h ago

Are they writing laws or just doing barely anything to fulfil requirements for their pay check & insider trading?

As someone who lives in Iowa, unfortunately the rural citizens are by and large this stupid

6

u/cef911f1 2h ago

That seems to be a common condition among rural citizens regardless of state.

Dumb country folk is a universal phenomenon.

Not to mention he is clearly a traitor. All you have to do is watch the current horseshit right now to see it. He's a monster that endorses everything happening while pretending to "both sides" it.

We cant even be tough and tell old ass people you cant drive and take away their keys. Cause their own family doesnt want to deal with them.Ā

7

u/makinSportofMe 6h ago

We don't need age limits, we need an informed and active electorate. It's ridiculous to think we need to tell people not to vote for an octogenarian.

9

u/Overall_Koala_8710 5h ago

The problem is that these people are a large part of the reason we don't have an informed and active electorate.

In an ideal world, we don't need age limits. But we are unlikely to ever reach the ideal world if we don't get age limits.

It's a voter problem; it always has been. Voters should know better than to vote for these fossils, yet they always vote for them.

I'm convinced that McConnell could win reelection right now.

And it's not just a Republican thing. There have been some Democrat fossils too. Feinstein comes to mind.

Feels like I've spent my entire adult life under taxation without representation.

Not all boomers are in the over the Hill crowd. There are many of them who should’ve been retired 30 years ago as they were unqualified and unfit to be our representatives. The sad part of this is it not over the Hill gang it’s also some of the younger ones who keep getting reelected only because they’ve been elected once or twice. Take the time to see how they vote.(big clue for me.-if they were mega/Republican, they weren’t gonna get my vote at least on this go around)

2

u/jawisi 4h ago

You’re not wrong; Boomers need to start stepping aside. But Chuck Grassley is a member of the Silent Generation.

2

6

u/pr1m3r3dd1tor 6h ago

The pay (in this guys case around $152k a year) and benefits continue after they retire. People like this keep running well after when they should retire because in their minds they truly believe no one else can possibly be as good at it as them or because they crave the spotlight.

7

u/SKssSM08 6h ago

The $152k is a mask for the money these fools make hand over fist in corruption

Because both parties lack balls to enact term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court. The Supreme is worse since it's for life. I'd also enact prohibiting anyone over 75 running for office.

u/Kichenlimeaid 6h ago edited 5h ago

To be fair, aren't they gunnin' to up the SSI retirement age and eventually take it away from Americans? Many Americans have to work well past 66. But yes, it is ridiculous that these old farts that can retire(have plenty of $$$) and means to retire and the best of Healthcare, can't step aside and let some younger people come and and serve. But that's just it. Thay aren't really serving their constituents so much as holding onto, and consolidating power.

2

u/sheepwshotguns 5h ago edited 5h ago

these aren't exactly hard jobs, the people stay in these positions because they enjoy making winners and losers within their sphere of influence for their friends and family. in exchange, they do what their big donors tell them too. they either vote or propose the legislation they're handed. they dont care about politics, when you're rich and powerful theres always a loophole. then there comes the point where they become disabled, but by then its the staffers under them are getting a piece of that power. the congressperson is just a meat puppet and nowhere in any part of that system of top down power does anyone care. its the sludge of capitalist incentives all the way down till it hits the working class.

Honestly, think about how much progress this nation would have made if we had term limits for the last century

2

u/justmark68 3h ago

Congress will never pass this, but this is how it should be...

Term limits = 2 terms for all branches (SCOTUS will adopt 10 year terms, anyone over max age must resign by next election day)
Min Age = 30 for all branches
Max Age = 66 at election/appointment day for all branches (which means that the oldest elected or appointed official in any branch would be 72)

Retirement has been raised to 67 with talks of raising it to 70. But no one should be deciding the fate of the nation over that age. Several ex-presidents have stated as much. To much money and ego is involved. On both sides of the aisle.

1

u/Vegetable-Error-2068 6h ago

Congress is the new nobility.

They are continuously showered with money. They insider trade constantly, they accept lobbyist checks, they accept bribes, they get rich from PACs and donation emails.

And then, if they mess up, they don't face any repercussions. Their voter base will demand that people vote in lockstep.

Good question, WHY? Im in favor of term and age limits for every state and federal office. I do not believe that our founding fathers intended for a Representative or Senator to be a PERMANENT OR LIFE time job, nor for them to be allowed to participate in INSIDER TRADING. I'm also in favor of a board of independent judges to choose who should serve on the Supreme Court when there is a vacancy. That way NO political party can hold up a nomination out of spite.
