its maga’s only winning position, not a lot of athletes at any level are trans, so when people talk about it its treated like a dog whistle, because it is one (trump already banned trans athletes from NCAA— it is not an issue)

Yeah Trans people in general are a miniscule part of the population and most concentrate in larger cities that are more open minded, but MAGA would have you believe they're everywhere trying to turn your kids gay, steal your daughter's volleyball trophies and make you cut off your own penis. And it works. Old people are very very scared of Trans people.

Public school in a suburban town in the early 80s. Kindergarten teacher kept trying to force me to use my right hand, took my parents throwing down with the principal to put a stop to it.
I did learn to use scissors with my right, because the classroom only ever had one pair of left-handed scissors, and they sucked.
9
u/Aromatic-Thing-132 9d ago
To use scissors, I can't even cut with Left-Handed ones. I learned to use right handed scissors very young and cannot get the other way. For a lefty to use right handed scissors, you need to pull with your thumb. While righties will pull with their fingers. That is so ingrained in my soul that when I get Left-Handed ones I end up with whatever I am trying to cut stuck between the blades. It truly is a right-handed world though.

That was the funniest thing about the drama. Like, the conservatives shriek and wail and throw tantrums and roar and it comes down to like...pretty much something that never happens. Straight up satanic panic or when people claimed that drugs were being put in Halloween candy lol. I think the sweeping "reforms" made about trans athletes across the ENTIRE COUNTRY affected fewer than 10 athletes and some of them were playing in sports like...table tennis. So, just remember that the hysterics is literally like, over nothing. But, according to propaganda, there are large swaths of evil trans people roaring into all levels of female sports just to beat them up and rape them and steal their awards and money lol.

There is now more litigation against trans women in women's sports than there are trans women in women's sports.
143
u/Amathyst-Moon 9d ago
Even though the few times it has come up, it doesn't exactly prove their point, like the trans bodybuilder who competed in the women's division at the olympics and rather than winning the gold and breaking the Olympic record due to having a natural advantage, instead came dead last with 3 failed lifts. HRT destroys the biological advantage they might have had. It's part of the reason why trans women are so likely to be assaulted if/when they're put in male prisons, particularly when they're put in cells with violent offenders. (I remember there was a term for it when it's done Intentionally, but I forgot what it's called.) If they're going to ignore hormone levels and go based purely on biological sex or chromosomes, then it's ironically going to create a less even playing field in the rare instances where trans or intersex athletes do come up. I mean if trans women have to compete against men, then logically trans men will be competing with women. Unless they do what my country was talking about and just have a blanket ban on any transgender person from competing in any sport. (Ironically, anti-smoking campaigns to curb the number of kids getting addicted to nicotine is government overreach, (at least to the party comprised of former tobacco lobbyists) but imposing sweeping decisions over both professional and casual sports, rather than having each sports organisation decide who and how they do and don't want to let in is fine.)
98
u/JDJ144 9d ago
Adding on. The trans woman they love to point at for "overshadowing" another female athlete actually tied with said athlete for like 5th place. Every story I heard before finding that out made it sound like she absolutely dominated the competition and won.
38
u/bonkginya 9d ago

Human studies routinely have small sample sizes due to ethics and population sizes. There just aren’t enough trans athletes to get a gold standard sample size when comparing to a much larger population size. Forcing an athlete to transition solely to test for advantage in a population that statistically speaking doesn’t exist is unethical and pointless too.

That's a really bad faith take on what the person you're responding to is saying.
It's not a popular take, and because a small minority has made it a hill to die on, fascists latch onto it and use it as a wedge in cultural war issues.
I doubt you watched the NFL during the pre-2024 era enough to see how much the GOP donors spent on poisoning the well with this transphobic nonsense. Regardless of the transphobia, it's not a popular take with the general American populace and they succeeded at making this a wedge issue among young adult males.

> because a small minority has made it a hill to die on, fascists latch onto it and use it as a wedge in cultural war issues.
It is one portion of a giant friggin’ mountain that include such things as “the top level officials of the Trump administration wrote a manifesto calling the entire demographic group porn, promised to expunge them from all public life and and the US as a whole, and declared that anyone who ‘purveys’ them to children should be imprisoned and put on the sex offender registry.” Of course trans people would- and should- oppose that anti-trans push as a whole; as should any decent person. Why in god’s name would they select this random molehill to choose not to oppose over literally any other aspect?
“Let’s advocate that trans people should just give up their rights so that fascism will only come for them. Because there is so much incentive for them to do so, and it would be sooo unreasonable to instead advocate for other people to give trans people rights in order to beat fascism for everybody”
Trans people are targeted for the same reason these dirtbags target any minority: trans people cant stop being trans any more than gay people can stop being gay or nonwhite folks can stop being nonwhite. Thus, they cannot but push back on folks trying to demonize them and strip them of their rights, meaning that they’re a useful enemy who cannot be fully defeated and thus whom they can demand their supporters support them in the fight against. But if trans people did miraculously sacrifice themselves like that these people wouldnt lay down their arms and sing kumbaya with the democrats, they’d do what they’ve always done once they finally get a victory and move onto the next issue to turn into a wedge issue
Trans people aren’t a wedge issue because they’re trans, they’re a wedge issue because they were chosen as a target. First they came for the socialists, then for etc etc. it doesn’t stop with any group. It never has and it never will and acting like it does is the exact sort of appeasement that explicitly empowers them.
Stop blaming them and pretending like if we just got rid of them like this administration is trying then things would suddenly turn out so much more reasonable!

Yes, though the argument is that—due to the fact that there's never been a trans WNBA player or even a trans D1 college basketball player—bringing up "protect our women against these trans invaders!" apropos of nothing just seems like virtue signaling/bullying. The analogy I like to use is if the bullied kid in school overhears the popular clique planning a party. They know they're not invited, and they don't even want to go to begin with. But if a member of said clique comes over to them just to say "and don't YOU even THINK about coming, because we DON'T WANT YOU", it's like... Okay??? You only did that to be an ass.

Despite the fact most trans women perform at a lower athletic level than their cisgendered counterparts? Multiple studies have shown that's the case after trans women have been on HRT for a significant amount of time.
If the discussion was, "Hey, let's maybe have a requirement for a certain length of time on HRT" then maybe that argument holds up, but instead it's just blanket bans on ALL trans women, which is transphobic.

It is not transphobic to say that athletes have who've had significant exposure to testosterone in the past should not be allowed in women's sports.
If your concern is "trans women are women" and she plays in "Women's NBA" then you are arguing over labeling issues - which is the dumbest political stance anyone could take.
If it helps, I am sure she'd be happy to rename WNBA to "Low Testosterone Exposure NBA" to resolve your hangups.

"Having exposure to testosterone in the past" makes no sense. What's their testosterone level now? Trans women who have undergone a medical transition, including hormone replacement therapy, have hormone levels within the normal female range.

Rules in elite sports should be driven by sports scientists and medical boards assessing actual performance data case-by-case, not sweeping political bans. HRT suppresses testosterone significantly, and athletic bodies vary wildly naturally, treating every trans athlete as automatically having an unfair advantage ignores the actual nuance sports organizations evaluate.

There’s a difference between legitimate dental healthcare (root canals, cavity fills, and braces for fixing jaw issues) and cosmetic dental ( veneers, braces for fixing crooked teeth FOR APPEARANCES SAKE, and whitening).
The fact that you conflate the two to make a bullshit “point” in your culture war tells us all we need to know about you.

I'm on board with absolutely everything else in this thread, but fixing crooked teeth is dental care, ask a dentist. Crowded/crooked teeth make it significantly harder to floss, clean, and care for your teeth. It has absolutely nothing to do with gender to take the advice of your dentist and straighten your teeth, it's not for vanity.

I’m quite liberal myself, and like you this is where I draw the line. These people are insane.

As an orthodontist I can tell you that the functional benefits of orthodontic treatment are often minimal (though most of us would not admit that, it's bad for business). People get by just fine with their crooked teeth. It's not like it's a fatal condition. Absolutely there are functional benefits, it's just that they're overstated.
The majority of the benefit is cosmetic.

Getting braces for fixing crooked teeth is not cosmetic dental, it is legitimate dental health-care. Crooked teeth can make it difficult to properly clean your teeth, making it more likely to get cavities or gum disease. Crooked teeth also lead to an uneven bite which creates uneven wear on your teeth, which requires you to overcompensate with greater force in your bite which creates a great deal of strain in you jaw over time. Crooked teeth are also more susceptible to chipping or microfractures. And, of course, crooked teeth can also inhibit speech, making pronunciation difficult.
All of these factors vary from person to person depending on the degree of how badly crooked their teeth are, of course, but by no means is fixing crooked teeth a "cosmetic dental" procedure.
The fact that you separate that from "legitimate dental health-care" tells us all that we need to know about you.

How can it be gender affirming when both men and women get the same cosmetic dental care? Which gender are we affirming here?

It's only a "boys football team" if there is an existing, separate girls team. Otherwise it's just "the football team" that anyone must be allowed to join if they make the cut.
It's usually just boys, but occasionally teams have girls on them. From my experience, they usually specialize as kickers.

Yeah this brave woman is there fighting to remove the 0 trans women that play in the WNBA.
While her simps wants the government to take over private sports league and enforce their own rules on who gets to play?

Sophie Cunningham is a bench player in the WNBA who went viral for pointing at black players on other teams, which made those players angry: +1 MAGA point
She then went on to say that trans women should not be allowed to play for the WNBA, even though there are no Trans players in the WNBA: +25 MAGA points
Sophie Cuningham is generically pretty, white and blonde: +40 MAGA points
Sophie Cunningham dates black guys: -500 MAGA points

Was it just black players? I had been under the impression it was everyone who fouled her

u/StrLord_Who 9d ago
It was one girl, they were arguing and the girl yelled "don't point at me!" so Sophie started wordlessly pointing at her to be petty and the other girl lost her mind and was acting like she had just been assaulted and her teammates were holding her back from trying to get at Sophie. If she hadn't overreacted so hilariously then the pointing wouldn't have gone viral in the first place.

Nah, it wasn't a race thing when she pointed at the other player. But, MAGA likes to pretend everything is a race thing, or whatever other culture war they want to pretend exists.

A: A guest speaker.

I got downvoted when I said she was dating a black dude and some chud was mad and asked for proof, so I sent them a pic off of Google and then he said they were just friends. The dude would not let himself believe it was true. I guess he thought he had a shot.

Forget her name but the girl is a WNBA player who said some stuff about trans people and aligned with the right wing. MAGA made her their WNBA mascot.
MAGA stereotypically racist and don’t like interracial relationships

Sophie Cunningham has become popular with the MAGA base because of her views on trans athletes and how she responds to black players in the WNBA. MAGA folks have a general opinion on the black players in the league that they’ll deny even though they make a shit ton of memes about it. Some MAGA fans of Sophie Cunningham have responded negatively to the fact that Sophie Cunningham either has or is dating a black man.

responds to black playersresponded to one player, who was black as are 70% of the players in the WNBA, whom she felt fouled her during one incident in the WNBA.Just clarifying and adding context.

I hate how Sophie’s pointing meme somehow became a racist thing whereas Caitlin Clark getting hard fouled for years with minimal blowback gets pushed under the rug by the same people.

Brian here.
This is the WNBA lady-basketball player that got into a spat with another black player who fouled her without consequence; so she pointed at her to make her mad.
This meme is about MAGA people liking that but disliking that she's dating a black man, because they're racist.

Chris here, I dont watch sports but I read reddit so I can explain. Red hat tards thought it was hillarious when Sophie Cunningham triggered a Black woman she was playing basketball against a few months ago by simply pointing at her and refused to stop and it made the other woman rage.
Now the racist red hats are seething because they found out shes dating a Black man.
Chris out.
