I don't think it's referencing any one event, but the top richest 12 people have immense power over the world and solar has been demonized (not necessarily even by them) significantly.

It folded after doing a handful of installs. It was BS.

Not true. The solar roof was discontinued last month. Tesla doesn't breakout their solar panel business from their battery energy storage business any more, but their estimated solar install is somewhere between 100–200 MW. Far from their peak a few years ago, but not zero.

I would suggest reading the comical number of scandals, litigation and fraud claims on the wikipedia page for SolarCity.

DC Solar spent like 2-4 years sponsoring a NASCAR team. As I remember it was supposed to be like a trailer of solar panels that could be set up. Each trailer had a GPS tracker on it.

I guess someone got curious and went and looked where one was supposed to be and it wasn’t there. And it turns out none of them were. It was actually a billion dollar Ponzi scheme.

Owner was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The Tesla solar shingles, yes. Pretty much done by now, never lived up to the claims. Also a problem looking for a solution. The solar roof had one advantage, not looking like a roof with solar panels, which triggers boomers but to younger people buying renting homes today, a roof with solar panels is just what a roof looks like.

Idk where you live, but its not that common yet. Also not rare that you find cities without it, but calling it as normal/what it should be… imho, stil to few solarroofs arround, where i live atleast, to call it “what it looks like” but…. It should be lol

Rooftop solar still isn't the "default" in northern latitudes where the electricity gathered isn't economically compelling, but solar panels on a roof are common enough and younger generations are more aware of the reality of global warming that basically nobody under 50 shits their pants at the thought like boomers do.

In the UK new homes have to have solar.

"The UK government requires solar panels and low-carbon heat sources like heat pumps as standard on new-build homes"

New homes currently beeing build in my area don’t. Hence why i dont find it common yet where i live.

There are several appartement building beeing build and renovated (rental and purchase alike), none of em have some form of solar power. Its up to the owner to place these things. (Obv some do already install all that, but its stil upon clients request)

You should see Perth's suburbs in Australia.

Now sitting at 53.5% of homes in Greater Perth region.

Northern Germany. Basically every newly built home has at least some space covered with panels. Retrofits are common, too.

Brainfart - thought we're talking wind for a moment. But yes, solar panels on roofs, especially on new homes, are very common in my area.

Tesla solar shingles failed, but the Tesla PowerWall is a great success
