Solar bro, they’re talking about solar. Now enjoy a bunch of bots shitting on solar and the its feasibility

Edit: stop giving me awards! Donate that money to a local food drive or buy yourself something cool

Okay I now know about the free awards

yeah, I get that part, but who are the 12 rich guys he means?

Donald Trump, Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, other pedophiles who the right seeks to empower.

I don't like Elon overall but in this context it makes no sense to include him. How is he against solar?

Anyway, I don't think you answered the question you were replying to. 12 is a very specific number. I'm betting it refers to some conspiracy theory in which it is exactly 12 people. "Trump and other powerful people" is different.

This is a solid question and deserves a solid answer from someone like me -- i was once a HUGE fan of his. Wow, my clock got cleaned.

  • His Tesla car was a way to expand his Tesla charging stations which charge substantially more for electricity (pure profit). Breaking centralized power breaks this investment rapidly.

  • Solar power (panels) is 80-88% China now. The sodium batteries? Also China. The 'blades' he uses for most of his cars now? China. A ten thousand dollar (BYD 'Seagull') electric car, often an order of magnitude cheaper than what he offers? China.

  • He is heavily invested in the oil whipping bandwagon now, thanks to his brown-nosing in with Trump. Solar will annihilate this.

He is also one of the investors in data centres / A.I. LLMs (Grok) which cannot run any less than 99.99% reliability. Solar panels + sodium ion batteries are, apparently, less reliable than that (even though they are cheaper to set up and about half the time).

But please, he does put on a great show of loving solar? So there must be many things i am missing.

That's not a contradiction. He can own a company that sells solar while pushing to make it more expensive for regular people to buy and install it. That's pretty much capitalism's favorite way of maximizing profit.

That's completely different. Amazon did that to gain market share and eventually gouge everyone to maximize profits. Elon didn't do anything in either of those industries, he took over Tesla from the creators, and he used government money to privatize chunks of nasa under the guise of reducing the cost to launch by taking designs that had already existed and weren't being used because the government shut down the research to cut NASA's budget.

What have Peter Thiel and Elon Musk done to kill solar? Neither of them are in the energy industry and they both only got rich in recent decades, solar wasn't a thing before them either.

Trump legitimately has done things to stifle solar power, but again he's only been president since 2016 and only for one country. How is he the reason solar isn't big in countries outside the US either or before 2016?

Neither of them are in the energy industry

Not a fan of the guy but he literally owns a company that sells solar panels.

By being the largest donors to the political opponents to Solar.

I watched a movie about a solar powered car race in the 1990s.

Also jimmy carter put solar panels on the white house in the 70's.   Solar has been a thing for atleast 60 years

It existed, but was very niche because it was too expensive to be feasible, not because Donald Trump, Peter Thiel and Elon Musk said no.

Over two thirds of the US's solar capacity has been installed since 2020. Over 99% since 2010. So it's not like solar was flourishing in the 1970s-1990s until Donald Trump, Peter Thiel and Elon Musk came in to kill it.

Yeah, it's basically the fault of the Saudi guys and the Russian oligarchs, but somehow people want to blame the tech bros?

I think Dyson said yes didn't he?

1

u/Thin-Past-3106 29d ago

Holy shit, so you think we could already build a Dyson sphere if not them?

1

u/Agitated-Pizza2360 29d ago

a dyson sphere, or more realistically a dyson swarm, would require hundreds of thousands times more resources than the earth has. And then you have to transport it to earth somehow. Current green energy works more than well enough to sustain modern life. Ceo’s would just lose money if we switched, so they’ve spent years lobbying and creating a fossil fuel centric narrative to make people believe it’s not a viable option

Musk supports solar. He even got into the solar business, but that didn’t go well. He’s in the grid battery business to help even out solar, and that’s going well.
