Internships

I am a second quarter student in Clark's nursing program and am also using my summers to take BSN courses at WSUV. I really want to get as much experience as possible to not only make myself a competitive hire but also gain as much knowledge as I can since my previous career was not in healthcare. Are there many internship options in the area for students? I had heard a classmate mention doing one over the summer and was curious how readily available something like that is. I am currently a patient transporter at Emanuel and plan to switch to being an ED tech next year for even more experience.

Totally unrelated, but how are you liking Clark’s program? I’m starting with the winter cohort in a couple months.

I am loving it! Not scary at all, great professors (especially in first quarter) and lots of good culture and support. Our student nurses association is great and puts in a lot of work for us and it is nothing like the scary stuff you hear about nursing school online. They want you to do well and will help however they can to make it happen.

If you'd consider working as an SNT (student nurse technician) at the VA Portland it's basically a guaranteed in as an RN upon graduation. You'd be a CNA but sometimes shown nursing skills. Work as much or little as you like. Pay is minimum wage but if you can swing it, worth it for the experience and foot in the door. Check usagov site for job postings or try to reach out to their nurse recruiter.
