I am a first time watcher and currently in the middle of season 8. dan scott was just introduced and it literally makes no sense! quinn goes to see him for advice on how to murder katie and he says he’s not a hit man but he’s literally acting like one!! he’s telling her what to do with the body and everything. i’m confused. the man killed one guy and didn’t even have to cover it up! it was easy for him to blame it on the kid with the gun since no one else saw it …“supposedly”. how would he even know how to cover it up and get rid of the body anyway?

there are other story lines with season 8 that just feel so off and really make no sense to me. not sure if it’s worth finishing 😭

I’ve been searching forever trying to find a one tree hill boxed version of season 7.

You know, as much as I understand the hate they get, I honestly think people go way too far when it comes to Season 1. I genuinely believe everyone was in the wrong. Brooke knew they had feelings for each other and was actively trying to sabotage Leyton before she and Lucas even got together. That doesn't justify their cheating, but she's not the innocent saint so many people make her out to be.

Season 3 is more complicated, but I don't think Lucas cheated on Brooke. Peyton kissed him because she thought she was going to die, and he didn't even kiss her back. As for why he didn't pull away or tell Brooke, Peyton had just lost a mother for the second time, and he didn't want to risk making her lose the only support system she had left. Besides, Lucas has always been there for everyone else without letting anyone be there for him. Brooke even admits they broke up because he didn't need her the way she needed him. And honestly, throwing a party at the place where his uncle died? Brooke wasn't exactly great at supporting him either.

As for Season 5, I have no defense for them. They were awful, but I still don't think they deserve all the hate they get.

The heart of the series was the Scott Brothers and their dynamic.

Peyton and Brooke were my favorite characters but I’m not going to sit here and deny that the actual heart of the series was the relationship between Nathan and Lucas. The show opened with them and their two different worlds.

Seeing their bond and development was the best part of the show. It’s why s7-9 aren’t as good. It’s missing their brotherly bond and the basketball aspect of the show.

I liked the trajectory of their relationship and how realistic it was as well. They didn’t automatically become close and bffs. They didn’t grow up together so they didn’t have an an automatic close bond but it was more subtle. You could tell by the end that they loved each other.

I mourn the Scott brother bond more than any other relationship on the show. S7-9 would haven been 100 times better if we saw them together.

Who does everyone think is the best actor on the show? Strictly talking about performance, without bias for favorite characters or story lines. Give examples!

I personally think a clear front runner is Paul Johansson. The way he makes you hate Dan, and yet feel bad for him at the same time. His performance with Whitey in the Cabin in season 7 stands out to me, but there are so many subtle moments that I think are so well performed that you miss them because they feel real and grounded.

Runner up is probably Sophia Bush. She’s able to show the most range IMO from sexy to silly or kind to mean, etc. Her performance in the season 3 finale in Peyton’s room and then with Lucas before their speeches gives me chills. Again, I think I forget she’s acting sometimes and that she is Brooke IRL.

I’m a Leyton fan in terms of storyline but I do think CMM and Hilarie are the weaker actors in the main cast, specifically. I can feel them acting a lot. Some examples are when he tells his mom Brooke might be pregnant, his puppy dog face and body language just felt overdone and it always takes me out of the moment. Or Hilarie during the psycho Derek attack. Her facial expressions and screams, etc. take me out of the story and remind me she’s acting.

What’s everyone else’s opinions though?

I have noticed watching the show a second time with some friends and reading youtube comments that a lot of people are SUPER harsh on Lucas when Hayley judges Lucas for dating Brooke but secretly being in love with Peyton. Some fans get mad that Lucas threw the fact that Haley decided to tutor and go out with his mortal enemy in the argument right back at her. This was the scene before Lucas and Keith crash. It should have been obvious to her that anyways from the start Nathan didn’t have good intentions coming to her for tutoring. We as the audience know Lucas is right. And Lucas had already accepted and been pretty quiet about his disapproval of Haley’s new BF for like eight episodes. He never crashed out on her. He told her how he felt about Nathan when she started dating him, but let it go because he could see how happy Nate makes her.

Yet some folks reaction to that scene is ‘no Haley’s right. Nathan is a good guy. Lucas is the bad guy because he likes Peyton even though he’s dating Brooke.’ Two girls Haley only just became friends with. She use to judge Brooke and Peyton simply for being cheerleaders. And then when Hayley is complaining to Nathan later that night about what a dick Lucas is becoming, Nathan laughed “how ironic.” Then Nathan let it slip that he did go after her originally to make Lucas mad. Even after that revelation the Lucas haters are like, ‘no Hayley stand your ground! You’re right! Lucas is scum for leading Brooke on. You and Nathan did nothing wrong!’

How does Reddit feel about the Hayley/Lucas/Nathan situation in the first half of S1? Did she have the right to call Lucas out for playing with Brooke and Peytons heart when she knew how awful Nathan and Dan were to Lucas yet she still tutored Nathan promising it was to protect Lucas. Then she dated him?

Omfg I know the show runners of teen dramas during that time were stealing ideas from each other left and right but it’s so clear after watching Everwood for the first time that Voldemort would just copy what he saw on Everwood for a future OTH season storyline. He even wanted there to be an old man narrator for OTH just like there was for Everwood when he pitched the show. I think he had a better team , actors/actresses and budget which made it a way better hit but Voldemort really is just a plagiarizer and all the beauty in the show came from other people.

I was watching pixels again and I realised before the aliens message that Josh gadds character was watching one tree hill. Idk what episode but it looked to be a car wash or something and Rachel was calling Brooke fat or something lol.

So while season seven and eight suck season nine is worth it and I never thought I’d say this but I honestly love Dan right now. And OMG the scene where Lucas picks up Jamie from the airport right after Jamie tells his mom it’s gonna be OK and Nathan‘s gonna come home and then he like collapses and hugs Lucas as soon as his mom is out of sight 💜😭it’s like he was holding it in for so long trying to be strong for his mom but deep down he was still just a scared kid who missed his dad 😭

People are fighting over who was the worst but it was actually the adults

I think it’s normal to have opinions on everyone’s individual behavior there are characters I dislike, others I like, but really most of them were messed up kids due to their parents being terrible.

For instance take Peyton. I do have to admit I don’t like her character and I have an issue with her behavior from when they were kids to the later seasons, I think even as an adult she wasn’t too great.

However, her mothers aside … they didn’t chose to die, she had terrible parenting. Her father was terrible, like granted he was busy making money but couldn’t he have found employment nearby ? Ok, let’s say no jobs were available ever around Tree Hill, no responsible adult to care for her ? Then letting her film herself on that damn cam ! There is a scene that surprised me where she undressed and forgot the cam was on, the dad comes in a is like « yeah you have them a show » jokingly, like what ? Also leaving her alone to deal with Ellie ? He was there 20 minutes and left. And then after the crazy Derek episode he wasn’t even there. The brother she never knew existed did more than her damn father. He didn’t even put her in therapy after neither one of the traumatic events she went through, her mom’s death, Ellie’s death, Fake Derek’s assaulting her…

Do I need to write a lot about Brooke’s parents ? Her mom especially ?
At least unlike Peyton’s dad at first they acted like they cared and wanted her where there was an adult to supervise but otherwise terrible !!! And her mother was the worst I believe after Dan.

Haley’s parents didn’t care about her much when they were there, supported her to marry as a teen (not necessarily bad but it didn’t feel like they were of great advice and care and they weren’t even a bit worried) and then the moment she was married they up and left and even through that terrible accident and her pregnancy they don’t show up. It’s ridiculous.

Nathan had Deb, granted 17 years with Dan can mess you up pretty bad but still … that woman ?!

Karen despite that the show tried to make her look like a great mom, she wasn’t that great. Granted she was a teen mom trying her best but refusing Dan’s help ? Even though he was terrible, Lucas’ crash out when he found out was justified. She stayed living in the town where her kid had to daily face her deadbeat dad and his whole family, she was selfish in many ways.

Rachel also didn’t have parents around.

Maybe it’s common in the US ? I am from France I didn’t know of that much people living alone like that back in HS.

In the end they are almost going to make me défend Dan, like he was a terrible person. But he was the only parent that was on top of his child’s education - granted one out of two sons and in the worst way possible but still he cared enough not to abandon his kid.

Loved Brooke and Julian together, also really enjoyed their chemistry but did anyone else find it a little weird how Julian kept asking actresses to dress sexier? Like the whole “can she wear something sexier?” thing just gave me slightly creepy director vibes lol. It also happened like 3-4 times and I was like??
Maybe I’m overthinking it or maybe it was Schwahn projecting but it genuinely made me feel a little weird about him. I haven’t seen anyone bring this up so I’m curious if anyone else noticed it?

I've been trying my best to keep watching, but I'm on season 6 now and honestly, I'm not enjoying it that much anymore. I just watched the episode where Quentin dies, which was really emotional, but aside from that, I'm finding it hard to stay invested in the show.

At this point, I feel like I'm mostly watching for Brooke because she's the character I'm most interested in. I'm not particularly invested in the other storylines anymore, and I'm wondering if it's worth pushing through.

Does the show get better? Is it worth continuing, or should I just stop here?

I’m watching OTH right now (still pretty early into season 1) but I’m so confused about the timeline. And maybe I’m questioning it too early? Maybe I’ll get answers as I continue to watch? But it is really bugging me. Karen got pregnant with Lucas at an early age and Dan decided to dump her so he could chase his dreams of being a basketball star. Then we find out supposedly he changed his mind and was going to be there so she gave Lucas his last name but alas, he didn’t show up. Was it because he was off getting Deb pregnant? And then he decided his life with Deb WAS worth leaving his basketball career behind? Because how the hell are Nathan and Lucas the same age??

Episode 11, where is the storm and they all have accidents and fights.
they lost so much time in between looking at each other and Brooke looking so much time with that nail clipper.
It pisses me so much that it is not realist at all. I know it is a TV show but comme on. It is not at all remotely realistic.

Also brooke playing the dead it is not believable. She looks like she is frowning. Also Julian knows that you are supposed to press so hard that you almost break the ribs?

I’ve think it's interesting that Leyton is the show’s epic, endgame when their actual relationship feels underdeveloped and repetitive.

Their appeal is longing, missed opportunities and the their "destiny". But how many times can we repeat the same cycle of separation, other relationships, cheating and unresolved feelings before it stops feeling like a slow burn and becomes a drag?

The Brooke situation makes it worse. Lucas and Peyton betraying her repeatedly, only for the show to frame their relationship as this great, inevitable love story, is really sad.

And season 5 is arguably their lowest point. Peyton goes from being an independent and headstrong to her entire world revolving around whether Lucas will choose her, while he gets to remain the "poor indecisive boy".

By the time they finally settle down in season 6, I was honestly more exhausted than satisfied. I understand why they’re endgame, but I don’t think the writing consistently earns it.

What makes this more frustrating is that Brooke-Lucas and Jake-Peyton were compelling enough to stand on their own. Lindsey also deserved better than being reduced to an obstacle in somebody else’s love story.

I’m not saying Lucas and Peyton should never have ended up together. I just think the show relied so heavily on "epic love" that it neglected the actual relationship, repeatedly sacrificing character development for the endgame.

I’m sorry but I feel like any overall irritation with Peyton, and a redeeming character arc for Brooke has made fans rewrite just how wrong Brooke was for ever dating Lucas in the first place. This of course falls on Lucas too, but I’m speaking in terms of the best friendship mostly. Throughout the show it’s acknowledged that despite Nathan and their differing popularities, there was always at least a little something between Lucas and Peyton. weather that was a crush, or just chemistry potential. I’m rewatching now, and Brooke clearly was just physically attracted to Luke and interested in his new popularity. Hence the “this is a moment where everything changes” thing. Peyton had finally ended things with Nathan, and her and Lucas were just beginning to truly give into that spark. But it wasn’t cut and dry, as it was new and messy, but ofc it was. Brooke acknowledged that Peyton had dibs but kept saying stuff like “your courtesy time will be up soon” as if that’s actually how love works? And then Brooke intentionally tried to keep them apart by sabotaging Hayley and Nate and trying to force Peyton and Nate at the party that one night. She was SO mean! but then they all immediately forgave her and like 2 days later, she was Luke’s girlfriend? there were so many obvious moments Peyton tried to be honest with her but Brooke would redirect to her sudden love for lucas, ignoring the signs from Peyton and how well she knew her best friend. I just hate how they began rewriting Brooke’s character to suddenly have NO idea Lucas and Peyton had unfinished feelings for each other. They were wrong for cheating! But everyone is acting like it came out of nowhere ??? 😭 Brooke is acting like she didn’t highkey cross a boundary? Hoes over bros but not for her ? Especially when you factor in that by season 1, brooke has already betrayed Peyton, nobody knows it yet. I LOVE who brooke becomes, and Payton and Luke really aren’t a favorite of mine. But rewatching, It’s just hard for me to feel all that bad for Brooke in this stage. Because her and Luke set themselves up for an issue, even if Luke and Peyton had never acted on it.

Season 2 opening is mad watching back as an adult

As a teen (and I totally understand it’s aimed at teens as many shows are today went thru don’t have to be ‘realistic’ and a different audience

But the fact Haley’s parents (especially with the Haley we see in Season 1) are totally fine with her wedding and just leaving her married with Nathan whilst they tell her a few days later they are heading off in an RV we now basically they don’t need to worry about her looking back is mental.

Same as Brooke taking photos of Peyton to put online, again a lot more of it’s time but still mad looking back on a rewatch
