youtu.ber/OcarinaOfTime • u/SupplePancake • Jul 23 '19
Announcement Welcome!
Hello! And welcome to r/OcarinaOfTime, the subreddit for the discussion of the game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a game produced by Shigeru Miyamoto for the Nintendo 64, Gamecube, 3DS and Switch from 1998 - 2021.
Now, you may be wondering why this subreddit has suddenly been made public after laying dormant for over 9 years. As of today, this subreddit is under new ownership, after being abandoned by it's previous owner.
In future I hope to grow this community, and I look forward to doing so.

Discussion Thoughts on the Zelda Direct a month and a half later?
It is way too hard to believe as I feel like Nintendo was just cooking with these two Directs and it flew by too fast in a blink of an eye.

Question How many times have you played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time since the remake was announced?
Before Nintendo announced the remake, I'd already finished it twice this year. After the announcement, I held back, but I couldn't resist and finished it two more times: once on Harkinian's ship, and two hours after completing it, I started and finished the 3DS version.
I'm so excited! It's my all-time favorite game! But I won't play Ocarina of Time again until the remake comes out.

If you had to beat up one minor character in OOT who would it be?
We get to murder bosses like the vag dragon, morpheus, the twincest old ladies, barnacle nards, really big hands, and Gannondorf endlessly. It probably says something about us how we revel in slaughtering them time after time, punishing them with an infinite existence of suffering.
So let's move away from the characters we get to take out our anger and unresolved childhood trauma upon. If we had to dole out some justice (and violent psychological projection) on minor characters, whose ass would you kick and how?
Would you give a wedgie to the happy mask salesman? Kick the lead carpenter in the balls? Fart in Mido's face? Shove Dampe's face in some dirt (he'd probably like it, that weirdo), or kick the Cucco Lady in the shins?
The world is your oyster. It's time to be the star you were destined to be and teach these bastards a lesson.

Zelda Posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 35: Phantom Ganon
Phantom Ganon, the boss of the forest temple who isn't even remotely forest related. maybe that has something to do with the fact the forest temple was originally supposed to be the wind temple? who can say... either way, Phantom Ganon's battle involves him riding his horse in and out of paintings. the poe sisters, whom I previously covered, also were found in paintings. you may be wondering why the forest temple and its bosses are so painting focused, but there is a reason for that.
Mario and Zelda, having the same creator, share a lot of DNA. it's common for an idea that started in Mario to end up in zelda, and vice versa. in this case, during Ocarina of time's development they weren't sure if they could create a big, connected 3D world. while the Nintendo 64 was set to be the MOST POWERFUL console at the time, the fact it used Cartridges instead of Disks limited the maximum storage space games could have on the console.
at one point, they considered having all the game's locations connected via Ganon's tower, and Link would access these locations by JUMPING INTO PAINTINGS. that's right, just like Mario 64! Phantom Ganon's battle comes from an early idea for the final boss fight, in which Ganon would ride in and out of the paintings. of course, they didn't end up going with the painting Idea and ended up being able to create Hyrule field. this idea for a final boss based around paintings likely would have gone unused, but they repurposed it into a mid-game boss fight by making a fake Ganondorf.
unlike the real Ganondorf, whose appearance changed a bit during the 7-year time jump, Phantom Ganon initially looks identical to the Ganondorf of 7 years ago, the Ganondorf Link remembers. but then he puts on a spooky skull mask so you know he's a phantom.
there were actually more ideas for the final Ganondorf boss battle that didn't make it into Ocarina of time in any form. these ideas came after the painting idea, as both utilized hyrule field. one idea was to have link battle Ganondorf on horseback through hyrule field, an idea we wouldn't see come to fruition until Twilight princess's final battle. the other idea was to have Ganon's pig form be massive and you had to climb up him shadow of the colossus style, an idea we wouldn't see until... megaleg from super mario galaxy? yeah, according to interviews, that's what became of that concept. like I said, mario and zelda share ideas all the time.
Phantom Ganon would appear in later games fulfilling the same purpose of letting the player fight A Ganondorf before fighting THE Ganondorf. he appears in wind waker, where he doesn't even remotely resemble Ganondorf. he then appears several times in Tears of the kingdom, but I also have heard some people argue that the four blight Ganons from Breath of the wild count as phantom Ganons. those people are wrong. those are not phantom Ganons; they are blight Ganons.

About the remake and Fire Temple
So we all know that the original soundtrack for Fire Temple was removed in NTSC 1.2 and all PAL versions and was replaced with another song. Do you guys think we might get the original version this time for the remake?

Question Ocarina of time preorder Australia
Is there anyone in Australia who might be able to advise me about what to expect for obtaining a physical copy of ocarina of time on release day.
Big W or target are cheapest at $95 but their websites claim there will be no stock in store and it is an online only purchase. This seems unusual for a new game release but maybe this is how things are now? The sites also say that it is not guaranteed to arrive until about a week after release.
Preorder is available for $110 at some other places like Amazon, EB Games or jbhifi but I can't see any details on whether they will have the game in store on release day/ if I preorder will I receive delivery on release day.
Does anyone have some experience or advice on the most reliable place to order from? Thanks! 😊

Is Physical copy of Zelda OoT remake physical cart going to be a collectors item someday?
I wanted to know if the Physical copy of Zelda OoT remake physical cart going to be a collectors item someday and if it's worth getting the digital copy and the physical copy and leaving the physical one unopened or if it's pretty much just like not worth investing in two copies of that game. Is it going to be just a game cart with a code or is it going to be a full game on the cartridge I imagine if it's just a game with a code on it it may not be worth anything as a physical copy just wondering thanks for your guys's wisdom and opinions.

Nintendo has to release that ocarina
If not Nintendo, then someone who knows the job. Hardcore fans will buy this as quickly as the console.
(I also think they should release a set of the Spiritual Stones for purchase, for those who didn't get the pre-order bonus)

Discussion Was hyped
for the 40th edition Zelda switch 2, but after seeing the design of it, I don’t think I’ll pick it up. Sorta like the joy cons, but the overall case design is too busy, gold/green coloration looks mid at best. Not feeling it’s worth the trouble to secure one anymore.
