✈ Working Abroad First Deployment in Germany: Senior Care vs. Hospital?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi everyone! Currently nasa Pinas pa. I recently passed my telc B1 Allgemein exam, which I took independently through self-study and paid for using my own money.

May kausap akong agency ngayon, and according to them, pwede na raw akong ma-deploy sa Germany with my B1 certificate. Kaso, ang available employers lang nila as of now ay nursing homes or senior care facilities.

I'm also planning to take my B2 Allgemein exam here in the Philippines before leaving, which I'll also be taking independently and at my own expense. Hindi ko pa ito nasasabi sa agency.

Sabi rin nila, mas mataas daw ang salary offers sa senior care compared sa hospitals, which honestly surprised me. Kasi ang impression ko, mas stressful at demanding ang trabaho sa hospital, so I was expecting na mas mataas din ang sahod doon.

May available vacancy rin sila sa Berlin, kaya medyo na-engganyo talaga ako since gusto ko rin talagang tumira at mag-work doon.

However, I'm having second thoughts.

For context, I'm a Philippine-registered nurse with around 2 years of experience in a medical-surgical ward at a tertiary government hospital. I'm also an NCLEX-RN passer.

Although Germany is my priority right now, hindi ko rin completely nire-rule out ang possibility na mag-work sa US or another country someday. Kaya I'm trying to be careful with my career decisions, especially when it comes to gaining experience that would still be relevant if I decide to move elsewhere.

Ang main concern ko talaga is baka maging waste of time sa professional growth and career progression ko ang pag-work sa senior care. Coming from a hospital background, iniisip ko kung mas okay bang ipagpatuloy ko na lang ang hospital experience ko instead of transitioning to a nursing home.

According to the agency, usually around 2–3 years din ang employment contract, so medyo malaking commitment din siya. What if after those years, ma-realize ko na mas gusto ko palang bumalik sa hospital setting? Baka instead na nakapag-gain ako ng additional acute care experience, mas lalo lang akong mapalayo sa clinical skills na nadevelop ko sa hospital.

I'm also concerned na baka maging disadvantage ito if I eventually decide to pursue opportunities in the US or other countries, especially since NCLEX passer na rin naman ako.

At the same time, I don't want to dismiss senior care completely. I know it's a legitimate nursing specialty with its own challenges and opportunities. Interested din naman ako sa geriatric care, especially since marami rin akong naging elderly patients sa surgical ward. Ang concern ko lang talaga is whether it's the right long-term career move given my qualifications and professional goals.

Sa mga Filipino nurses currently working in Germany, especially those who have experienced both senior care and hospital settings, I really hope you could share your insights and experiences with me.

I'm particularly curious about the differences in workload, salary, working conditions, and career opportunities between the two settings.

Lastly, I have two main questions:

  1. Why do some senior care facilities offer higher salaries than hospitals? Considering na mas stressful at demanding ang hospital setting, at least based on my experience, I'm genuinely curious kung bakit mas mataas daw ang offers sa senior care. Is there a catch sa ganitong salary offers, or is this actually normal in Germany?
  2. Do you think spending 2–3 years working in senior care would be a waste of time in terms of professional growth and career progression? Especially for someone with a hospital background who might eventually want to return to acute care or pursue nursing opportunities in another country.

I'm honestly torn between accepting the senior care opportunity in Berlin or waiting for a hospital vacancy or even proceed to take the B2 and proceed with a new agency na may hospital vacancies.

I'd really appreciate your honest opinions, even if they go against my assumptions. Gusto ko lang malaman kung valid ba talaga itong concerns ko or if I'm overlooking the professional opportunities that senior care can offer.

I really hope you all could provide me with some insights. Malaking tulong talaga sa akin ang experiences and perspectives niyo before I make such a major career decision.

Maraming salamat in advance!

šŸ„ Jobs / Careers No bedside exp

• Upvotes

I'm a 2025 NLE passer currently working in utilization review. Planning to take NCLEX soon, and signing up to an agency that doesn't require bedside experience. While I wait for the process, I plan to continue on working as a UR nurse (since the pay is good). I know most likely I'll be assigned on SNF or LTAC. Just wondering if it's possible to apply in a US hospital when I finish my contract in a SNF facility? Anybody with a similar experience? Any advice would be good. Thank you!

✈ Working Abroad master's in the US āž”ļø working in the US?

Hi! Was just curious if taking Master's in the US would potentially open an easier pathway to working as a USRN? Parang I saw something like that kasi for some EU countries like Germany, so I wondered if may ganun din for the US. I heard the waiting time from PH to US takes a few years but since I plan to take Master's whether it be in the PH or another country, I was wondering if it would be a shorter process or if they had more opportunities for work there after studying mismo sa US hehe. Tyia!

Hi! I’m a first-year nursing student, and I have a tattoo on my wrist. I just want to ask if tattoos are allowed during RETDEMS. If they’re not allowed, will I lose points, or could the CI dismiss me from the class because of it? I’m worried about this, so I’d really appreciate hearing from students who have experienced this. Thank you!

✈ Working Abroad New York USRN to Canadian RN pathway?

I'm a PHRN and USRN currently practicing here sa Pinas. Just wondering if anyone knows kung paano ang pathway from USRN to Canada?? I know it varies from province to province, but I'm wondering lang if it's possible to endorse my NY license to any of the Canadian provinces even if sa Pinas ako nagppractice? I'm targeting BC, specifically.

Any insights will help. Thank you!

šŸ”ŽSeeking Recommendations usrn agency reco pls

hii! I'm a USRN already. Pero my dilemma is that I am currently working bedside since 2025 sa Gen ward ng Primary Hospital. I had 1yr contract with them and in that same yr ako nakapasa.

Respectfully asking if may alam po ba kayong agency na nagaaccept ng primary hospital? Or willing to file po PD na hindi strict sa bed capacity. Pabulong naman po.

**i attended 1 agency interview kaso hindi nila mappush thru docs ko until makalipat ako sa bigger and it's just really hard to apply here and there lalo if wala pa sapat ipon and all. Ty !

ā“General Question / Advice Does any one here got in Problem with PPUSA?

Hello dear Nurses
I’m an internationally educated nurse, I passed NCLEX-RN over 3 years ago and unfortunately signed a contract with this staffing agency; I’m not from Philippine and for confidentiality reasons I prefer to not say where I’m originally from.
It’s almost near to be a year since my pd got current and during this long period they refuse to find a hospital offer.
Whenever I object they come up with new reasonings, new excuses.
They take no responsibility whatsoever for fulfilling their commitments, their obligations in the contract.
And as long as I know, I’m not the only one who is dealing with this problem. They are subjecting hundreds of nurses under their contract to the same grievance.
In response, they brush off your questions by saying, "This is our company policy."
Or they come up with baseless, meaningless excuses.

So because I know also there are many Filipino Nurses who have contracts with this agency, have anyone experienced any similar problems with this company?!
If Yes; How you resolved this problem with them?
Or How did you ensure they fulfilled their responsibilities?
Thank you in advance,
