(1) That is a f-ing unit of a punter.

(2) That choreographed fake punt would still work today.

Good luck finding a punter that can palm a football in one hand.

Modern gloves might help with a grab, but not the end around transfer necessarily.

Janikowski could have pulled it off tho lol

Sea Bass was the man! He would miss some easy ones but holy hell that guy could boot it!

u/RideIT-Out Green Bay Packers 3h ago

He'd be hitting 75 yarders easy now days.

I watched Dickson 1 hand a ball off the ground on the run one time, maybe him?

The Titans absolutely ran this exact same fake while wearing the Oilers throwbacks in the Hall of Fame Game a while back. And it went for a TD.

Sunday Night Football on ESPN was my favorite.

Mike Patrick was incredibly underrated and Theismann did a really good job playing off him

You have to believe that field had no padding. Just concrete then turf

3

u/bwburke94 New England Patriots 4h ago

The Titans brought out Oilers throwbacks in 2009, and ran this same play with A.J. Trapasso as the punter. Was it as a tribute?

Roby actually sometimes wore a wristwatch when he punted. I don’t see it here. That’s the tell.

Mike Patrick and Joe Theismann on the call. The OG play by play team of ESPN NFL games.

So much to like in this clip:
✅ Reggie Roby
✅ Oilers unis
✅ Theisman and Patrick broadcast team

That is the biggest kicker I have ever seen

The defender who runs up on him as he fakes he punt doesn’t even see that he didn’t kick it. Watch, he runs to the left to go after the other guy in the backfield, he doesn’t react to there being NO BALL THERE

I love 99 not giving a fuck and just walking!

1

u/Quadrahedrons Las Vegas Raiders 4h ago

That punter needs a guardian cap just to make his helmet look normal on him.

I had to rewatch it multiple times to see exactly what happened. That was a smooth play

Looks like a LT filling in as a punter

2

u/Notsurewhyicomehere 3h ago

He's bigger than his blockers and runs like he was programmed by someone telling him how running looks.

1

u/Blaque_Scheap Carolina Panthers 4h ago

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

1

u/funktopus Cincinnati Bengals 4h ago

Fuck the Oilers!

1

u/SportacusRex 4h ago

Punter is a UNIT

0

u/ashmaps20 Philadelphia Eagles 5h ago

Isn’t this the game where the Bengals destroyed the Oilers 61-7 or something like that?

1

u/Wonderful-Movie6007 Kansas City Chiefs 5h ago

That was in 1989
