u/Comfortable-Bus822 Buffalo Bills Aug 03 '26
I mean... I think that's kind of the point. Of course it's going to take some time for him to fully recover, yet a lot of people expect him to be 2021 Mahomes right out of the gates because he was able to dance at Travis Kelce's wedding or something. People think he's going to be "better than ever', when that's just not realistic. At least not right away, and maybe not this season. He'll play, but he's going to have to make some major adjustments.
23
u/5panks New England Patriots Aug 02 '26
Anyone in /r/nflv2 that doesn't expect Mahomes to come back as a significant threat is just kidding themselves.
I'm not going to believe it till he has abck to back bad seasons.

u/Prize_Sector5854 Aug 02 '26
Ask Tom Brady how ACL and MCL tears ruined his career
3
u/Revealingstorm Aug 02 '26
Brady relied a lot less on mobility than Mahomes
11
u/SaltyAndPepperd Minnesota Vikings Aug 02 '26
You’re going to wish an evolved Mahomes into existence with statements like this.
It’s not like he doesn’t have the arm talent to become a Brady Level pocket passer.
4
u/JCBalance New England Patriots Aug 03 '26
He doesn't need the arm talent, he needs the pocket talent.
3
u/SaltyAndPepperd Minnesota Vikings Aug 03 '26
Correct. Which is why I told OP not to wish that into existence.
3
u/Valen_the_Dovahkiin Aug 03 '26
Brady was never mobile though; Mahomes has always been amd it's a huge part of his game, so he's going to need to adjust or risk further injury. He has the skill to do it, but it's not like flicking a switch.

u/Consistent-Spell2203 Las Vegas Raiders Aug 02 '26

That's because all of the news reel camera operators were stationed in France trying to cover the first world war.

Sammy Baugh was 5 when the first World War ended.

It was a joke lol. I knew Baugh was old but I didn't bother to look up precisely how old. I was actually thinking he was a good deal older than that, which would have made my claim even more outlandish.
Essentially just making fun of how old he is.

Looks like 85 was supposed to flash across face of defender and instead just stopped.
Why the hell are you people downvoting?
After 85 stopped and as Mahomes had already started to throw the pass, he tried to pull it back and was too late. So off target and low. Boinked center.
The path of pass was going by the center's head anyways and with the attempted abort...
Are you all just happier dumping on people?

11
u/mhsheets Kansas City Chiefs Aug 02 '26
Coming off ACL and LCL it’s understandable. I’ve seen a bunch of clips him being tentative. Then there’s the clip of him taking off scrambling down the middle of the field looking much more comfortable.
8
u/bliffer Kansas City Chiefs Aug 02 '26
Or the one where he threw a TD and was jumping up and down. That one got me a little nervous.
2
u/yhetti-fartz Kansas City Chiefs Aug 02 '26
More and more im thinking he should just sit out and rehab longer. Give fields a shot and see if he can win a couple games the first 4 weeks. Colts, dolphins, raiders could be winnable without pat. Thatd give pat till the middle of october.
2
u/babymozartbacklash Philadelphia Eagles Aug 02 '26
Yeah it'd be horrendously stupid for him to be back week 1. There's just no point. Sure he might be fine but it's a ton of risk for like 2 or 3 wins
2
u/yhetti-fartz Kansas City Chiefs Aug 02 '26
Yeah id be surprised if we could contend this year anyway. Only way that happens is if pat gets back to his old self quickly and our pass catchers are better than what i think they are. No clue how good the defense will be.
3
u/babymozartbacklash Philadelphia Eagles Aug 02 '26
I wouldn't be that surprised if you guys are a contender this year. I meant more that I think Reid can get the best out of fields for a few games and you guys have a RB now too
1
u/yhetti-fartz Kansas City Chiefs Aug 02 '26
Yeah im not saying it's out of the cards, but our offense was bad last year. It has to improve markedly to contend. Gonna be tough if mahomes cant move around like he's used to. Then we got travis maybe being too old, the jailbird coming off knee surgery, worthy hasnt proven to be much so far also off injury, and i dont know if thornton or allen move the needle. Just feels shakey.
2
u/mhsheets Kansas City Chiefs Aug 02 '26
I think we all realize now that the lack of play makers at WR was covered up by a prime 87 and 10. Couple that with the NFL had not seen anything like Mahomes before. Defensive Coordinators had no idea how to stop him. These coaches are pros. Give them enough tape and they can scheme against anyone. The complete failure of the front office to bring in FA WRs and inability to draft anything to put around him is haunting us now. I’m so sick of them drafting track stars and not football players. What good is sub 4.5 speed if you can’t get open and can’t catch?
I hope Andy took last year’s playbook and burned it. I’ve read articles that defensive players knew what play was coming before the snap a lot last year. Patrick was in shotgun 3rd (?) most in the league and ran almost zero motion. No threat of a running game. Defenses knew what was coming.
Mahomes isn’t blameless. I know nothing and didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. It appeared to me his footwork got a ton worse. It was never great. His biggest knock coming out of college. He all but refuses to climb the pocket. Bails at the first sign of pressure or feels pressure when there is none. Throwing off platform. Off his back foot. Etc. His deep ball was once his bread and butter. I think his deep ball completion percentage was atrocious.
But I digress. I’m with the folks saying that I would ease him back with the plan to start in week 6. I mean why risk it. With all the flaws, I love my Chiefs and I love Mahomes. I still feel like he’s got a shot to go down as the beast ever.
2
u/yhetti-fartz Kansas City Chiefs Aug 02 '26
Yeah i think i pretty much agree with all of that. Although I will say that was excited about our wrs going into last year as i thought rice, worthy, brown, and kelce would be a sufficient group of pass catchers. Just didnt work out. Injuries were a big part of the problem last year on offense, and they still are with rice and pat not 100%. If we can get those 2 healthy alongside a better run game, the offense could eat. Just wont know till it happens.

u/Dec_Chair Aug 02 '26
I mean something happened before he released it and he just gave up on the throw, he's already starting to crouch down before he releases that ball, whether that something was mechanical with his throw or with the way the play developed vs expectations I don't know. Obviously, if something starts to happen in a real game he's tucking the ball and trying to scramble and find another option.

Knowing the Chiefs, if that happened in a game it would be the AFC Championship, the ball would rebound into Kelces hands and he would take it in for a game winning walk off TD.
