Video Games Does anyone else feel like Moon Knight should’ve been a tank and played completely differently in rivals?

Moon Knights entire fighting philosophy is about how there isn’t a punch he’d rather dodge than just tank it. Plus the dude (especially in Houston’s run) is a complete brick house.

A tank ? No.

A duelist 100% BUT. His gameplay should have been a loooot different.

He should have been a brawler not turret man.

Nah, Marc is about as close to a tank as you can get while being a relatively normal human. My man relatively recently boxed an Asguardian.

I mean, he died, but still!

He is 1000% a human tank. His entire fighting philosophy is about tanking.

Villain: punches marc

Marc: "Joke's on you, I'm into that shit!"

2

u/DraculeDBagmen Jul 01 '26

by that logic then a lot of characters should be a tank

u/JakeVonFurth Jul 01 '26

Marc's entire fighting style is "I'm going to take every single hit thrown my way before beating you with a pair of sticks to or past the brink of death, because the pain reminds me that I'm alive and even if you kill me it's not going to stick."

Moon Knight's entire schtick is that he's a facetank in the purest form.

Yeah daredevil also loves pain not extreme like Marc but still

It’s different, Moon Knight just straight up refuses to dodge.

100%

In Rivals his gameplay is pretty much based almost entirely on the random bullshit go meme, which isn't surprising with some of MK's dialogue and lore in Rivals.

I’m actually so sad about that, a lot of the other characters have some pretty deep cut references in their movesets or dialogue or something, and MK’s entire thing has absolutely no basis in actual comics.

u/JakeVonFurth Jul 01 '26

Every other characters is based either on their comic counterpart or their movie counterpart. Even ones that are heavily changed (like Cap being a 2099) are still recognizable as who they're supposed to be.

And then there's Marc, who was written with coke, memes, and a skim through a wiki page.

There’s no love for MK in this game. They just gave up and started giving him gooner skins. This is what Marc Spector looks like btw.

21

u/coolguy3211231 Jun 30 '26

Man, his face changes every time someone draws him. I agree marc shouldn't be a pretty boy but posting a single panel of his face doesn't mean much.

10

u/DET0IT_BEC0ME_MEME Jun 30 '26

True, Marc has been a ginger too

19

u/Duskytheduskmonkey Jun 30 '26

Yeah bro is supposed to look rough

9

u/Jill1974 Jun 30 '26

Well, that’s literally one comic (2006: 13) with a one time illustrator. It’s easily among my favorites, but not particularly representative of Marc’s appearance compared to Moench, Finch, or Cappucchio.

4

u/RealWonderGal Jun 30 '26

? Gooner skins?

9

u/Coop7011 Jun 30 '26

Probably is meaning the Suave Spector skin.

18

u/IgnatiusPopinski Jun 30 '26

That ain't Marc Spector. That's clearly Steven Grant.

12

u/DET0IT_BEC0ME_MEME Jun 30 '26

Steven Grant is classy

2

u/Coop7011 Jun 30 '26

Hahah! I admit to have modded it some to fill in those side panels with cloth in my game, as I felt like the transparent side panels were a bit too much.

u/Existing-Flan723 Jun 30 '26

I wish they would put his melee kit from the bloodhunt mode in his regular kit. Have him be able to switch between the two. Newer heroes have a bunch of shit anyways so I don’t think updating old ones to keep up would hurt the balance much

u/Samiassa Jun 30 '26

I’ve always said he should’ve been in between tank and dps, like mister fantastic. A really squishy tank that gets a lot of overshield from attacking. His whole thing is that he’s willing to take a beating and he’ll never give up. That sounds like a tank to me. At the very least he should’ve at least been mostly melee. He rarely uses the moonerangs, 99% of the time it’s the sticks

9

u/IgnatiusPopinski Jun 30 '26

I get why he is the way he is, gameplay-wise. The Crescent Darts are part of his toolkit in the comics, and in a hero shooter as chaotic as Rivals range matters. Also, they probably didn't want him to play too much like Iron Fist.

Maybe if they'd left his primary weapon as the Crescent Darts, and his secondary was a punch-kick-truncheon combo. And allow his grapnel hook to hit enemies, stun them, and pull MK into them with a flying kick?

As a Moon Knight fanatic and a tank main by heart, yes, but it makes sense he's a dps even if there's ways to make a tank kit work AND have him be consistent to his comic depiction. He's durable but not supernaturally so. I'm not goimg to get my panties twisted that he isn't a tank even if I would have liked him to be in my wildest fantasy.

However, yes, he needed to play dramatically differently than what we got. They are attempting to make an improvement in the vampire mode by giving him a melee attack, but it's still not quite the same.

2

u/DET0IT_BEC0ME_MEME Jul 02 '26

I would’ve accepted him as a brawl too, I still have him lord’d, but ever since I’ve picked up Cap, Iron Fist, and Daredevil;I haven’t been able to shake the thought of tank knight.

1

u/SaltyNorth8062 Jul 02 '26

Honestly Rivals's fanfiction version of Daredevil has the kit both Panther AND Moon Knight should have had. It's why it's so overloaded.

4

u/pasta_dog88 Jul 01 '26

They saw one meme about him and decided “fuck his character, we’re just gonna make him a big ol meme”. Everything down to his play style and even voice lines are based on his memes.

3

u/DET0IT_BEC0ME_MEME Jul 01 '26

The fuck ass Dracula line

2

u/pasta_dog88 Jul 01 '26

Like it was funny at first like “haha the big game is referencing a meme!” But it’s just tiring now.

8

u/UkuleleSteven Jun 30 '26

Tank, not really. Played completely different? Absolutely. I wish he had the same voice actor doing different intonations for each identity. I also wish he was a stealthy melee hero.

23

u/SladeDragunov Jun 30 '26

You must’ve read my mind lol. I was thinking that Moonknight should’ve had a Deadpool like setting.

Jake Lockley MK= vanguard
Marc Spector MK=Duelist
Steven Grant MK= Strategist

37

u/LukeH213 Jun 30 '26

Might be a hot take but I'm glad they didn't do this either tbh.

Jake and Steven aren't Moon Knight.

-10

u/SladeDragunov Jun 30 '26

He’d use those personalities as Moonknight

10

u/LukeH213 Jun 30 '26

My point is, that is just as unfaithful, if not more unfaithful, than what we currently have in Rivals.

3

u/DET0IT_BEC0ME_MEME Jun 30 '26

Unless they went the Moenech route I don’t know if I agree with this.

-8

u/T-R0X55 Jun 30 '26

I've been ranting about how THIS VERY THING should've been how moon knight was implemented. I just swap around Jake andatc in roles, but idc, it's moon knight in other roles.

-11

u/Coop7011 Jun 30 '26

Yes OMG, I've been saying this too, it would have been SO cool.

2

u/CustomlyCool Jul 01 '26

A bruiser DPS like Mr. Fantastic would have been ideal i think

2

u/YaBoyEden Jul 02 '26

I actually just really dislike MOST of the characterization in Rivals. Moon knights especially

“I’m moon knight and I’m C R A Z Y OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO”

I hate it

2

u/MoedredPendragon Jul 02 '26

Making Moon Knight of all people a poke character is weird. His whole thing is that he fights like an animal in CQC and will often just eat attacks to get free shots in.

2

u/Silly-Helicopter3416 Jul 02 '26

YES A TANK/DPS MAKE SO MUCH MORE SENSE CAUSE HE DOESN’T DODGE ATTACKS…

Well done comrade thou haveth high intelligence

1

u/xantarol Jun 30 '26

It could be cool if they did what they did with Deadpool with his different identities like Jake, Mark and Stephen

1

u/One_Eagle_4127 Jul 01 '26

Yeah like wolverine

1

u/AdventurousSurvey236 Jul 01 '26

I could see it as him being a tank that dives like Captain America basically being a distraction for the backline

1

u/Aldbrecht Jul 01 '26

Moon knight? Yes. He’s a tank. In the videogame they can add some of their own lore, like that Khonshu gave him extra resistance powers or something like that.

The problem is, Moon Knight rivals isn’t the original Moon Knight, he’s Meme Knight.

1

u/MaybeAnEnby Jul 02 '26

No because if he was a tank I wouldn’t be able to play him

I suck at the game hihi

1

u/Mistyless Jul 02 '26

Lowkey think deadpools gimic would have fit moonknight a lot better…

1

u/thingingit Jul 04 '26

Very off topic, but does anyone know how to collect the Jed Mackay Moon Knight comic run? When I search how it comes up with different answers but this is the list I made:

-Moon Knight vol 1 The midnight mission

-Moon Knight vol 2 Too Tough to Die

-Moon Knight vol 3 Halfway to Sanity

-Moon Knight vol 4 Road to Ruin

-Moonknight vol 5 The Last Days of the Moon Knight

-Moonknight vol 6 Vengeance of The Moon Knight

-Moon Knight vol 6 Fist of Konshu

Is this right? Again, very off topic but im genuinely confused.

1

u/Thunder17_- Jul 04 '26

I will die on this hill, he has 3 different personalities. Each one should have been a different role. Marc-vanguard, Jake-dps, and Stephen-strategist

1

u/ReasonableQuit75 Jul 04 '26

Shouldve been at least a DPS Tank Hybrid

1

u/Van_Ghalta782 Jul 04 '26

Why mk got them thunder thighs tho 🤣🤣

Moon Knight in general easily could have been a duel or even triple role hero, given his split personalities. And yes, I find it weird that we largely play Marc like a little sneaky coward who can't take a punch. He should AT LEAST be brawl DPS.

I don't hate his gameplay in Rivals, and I still play him more close to my team anyway, rather than flanking all the time. But people will tell me this is the wrong way to play him and it can be frustrating to be so weak against dive.

I do regularly get MVP with him though so, it's working for me at least. But I do wish he was brawl still at the very least.

-1

u/sanguineAllegories Jun 30 '26

Nah, I like his pseudo turret character playstyle. It reminds me of his west coast avengers era where he had all those egyptian trinkets. My only complain is that his ankhs should be designed to be place preemptively and make him a more brawly character instead of a long range poke

0

u/Prestigious-Copy-283 Jun 30 '26

Played differently yeah sure but tank? No Only duelists i think should've been tanks are namor and Mr fantastic

-1

u/T-R0X55 Jun 30 '26

Yes, I want this, but if we can't get it, at LEAST make it so when your wearing the Mr knight skin, he says one for Marc, one for Jake, and one for me on his triple voice line over his normal
