Nostalgia The “Impression That I Get” is the most iconic 90’s song.

The entire song is about how easy life has been so far and how hard it would be to ever face real adversity in your life.

Listening to this in the current state of the world and political climate makes the 90’s feel so optimistic.

Never had to, but I better knock on wood, because I'm sure it is't good, and I'm glad I haven't yet

That’s the impression that I get.

Ironically the lead singer of that band ended up being a real shitbag anti vax trumper, contributing to the less than optimistic feels these days.

No way! That's so disappointing 😞

He and other anti vaxxers from other bands you’d probably recognize even formed a band during the Pandemic which they named “The Defiant.”

They played the San Dimas High School Battle of the Bands IIRC. They lost to Dirtbag Skibidi.

This before or after they made a George Floyd protest song

You can’t skank away racism… that isn’t my opinion. That’s a title of a YouTube video on it

That’s a bummer. I’ll always love that band though.

The BEST 90s song is Common People. The MOST 90s song is Steal My Sunshine.

Summer babe (winter version) by Pavement is the most 90s sounding song I've ever heard.

I don’t think it’s quite the MOST emblematic song of the 90s, but I think it’s a super great and nostalgic song for sure. The whole ska vibe is definitely iconic.

They aren’t denying things can be tough, they’ve just been lucky.. many people can relate to this day😂😂 the song acknowledges adversity and things can be shit… they’ve just been lucky lol

I know we love to look back on the 90s with rose-colored glasses, but it was also a time of high crime, serial killings, kidnappings, gang violence, unregulated internet practically bordering on the dark web, hyper-religious parents, abusive parenting, bullying, sxism, hmophobia, unrealistic beauty standards, teen drug use and smoking, secondhand smoke everywhere, far less acceptance and understanding of neurodiversity, and far fewer flexible college pathways for those who struggled with higher-level math skills.

I actually don’t recognize that song title. But I do recognize these extremely iconic songs:

  • Bullet With Butterfly Wings
  • Bulls on Parade
  • Black Hole Sun
  • Machinehead

But maybe I was a bit more grunge than you?

By grunge you mean "main stream".

1

u/SloanBueller 14h ago

That is the name of the genre though.

Ooh got hit with the “poser” attack! Ouch…

Not at all what I said cool guy.

I’ll take the compliment whether you intended it or not!

2

u/StreetFlaky3250 17h ago

So edgy, like a rat in a cage, or whatever top 20 trl song you like.

Sick burn bro. Oh, and tell your mother to turn the damn heat on. It was freezing in their last night!

u/StreetFlaky3250 14h ago

Graves don't have heat bub.

That's what grunge is. Mainstream commercial hard rock made to be big on the radio sometime around 1994.

I don't know why people want it to be all the edgy and non commercial cool bands like Tad, Mudhoney and the Melvins. Those are more accurately described as Seattle Sound, a sub genre of College Radio Rock first recognized in spring of 1989.

"Grunge Band" is basically defined by Collective Soul and Bush. The sellouts who came in afterward to mop up all that money.

Bush was kinda on the edge of grunge but sure, they were all in that alt movement of the 90’s. I think Soundgarden, RATM, and early Pumpkins kinda fit the “iconic” grunge sound better than the bosstones, and really what I’m saying is that I literally had to look OP’s song up to remember who sang it because I didn’t listen to ska or whatever that much.

But it does go to show that we all listen to different things and have different core memories of the 90’s, which ended 26 years ago.

1

u/Stevenitrogen 16h ago

I didn't remember it either. Bosstones weren't grunge that's for sure! You could tell just from the outfits.
