Legal 20 year old Florida resident traveling to Michigan, can I carry?

Hey yall, I am 20 years old, a resident of Florida, and hold a Florida CWL. Am I able to carry in Michigan when I visit this weekend? I read the language of the applicable statutes, they say that the licensing scheme doesn’t apply to non-residents licensed in their home state. Is there any official clarity on this matter? Thanks!

u/nukey18mon just about everything you were told here is wrong.

YES, you may carry a concealed pistol in MI under the facts that you've described.

MCL 28.432a(h) applies to "A resident of another state who is licensed by that state to carry a concealed pistol." That clearly applies to you.

Nothing in that requires you to be 21 years old as some have suggested. Also, people who tell you that a pistol in the cabin of a car is "considered concealed" are also wrong. You need to have a license, but it's not considered concealed.

Lastly, the requirements to obtain a MI CPL are not relevant because the above statute does not make them relevant. You are exempt from the need to obtain a MI CPL.

That’s how I read the statute. Especially when official sources are silent on the issue, I understand the variety of different interpretations.

The only "official" source is the statute as there is no case law on point.

I was also looking for AG/LEO opinions or instructions and couldn’t find anything

Except for a formal AG opinion, which there isn't one on this topic, you don't want those things. As we always say here, never ask the police for legal advice.
