Who would have thought that being honest and respectful on the first date would work out so well

Also, I have to say for any impressionable young (or not) men reading this: asking before you touch someone isn't a bad or awkward thing. The take away from her saying "no" should be "oh, glad I asked, then!" and not "I should have just done it."

Yup. Always ask for consent. Look how well it worked out for this couple! Sometimes a comment is just a comment. Movie theaters often ARE freezing. If someone says so, it’s not necessarily an invitation to touch them so he did the right thing!

Be you.

Sometimes the truth feels risky, but it ends up building more trust, not less

I always default to respectful candor in these situations. I can't stand when women are like, "you should be more assertive and take-charge." Sure, I'm entirely capable of that. But absolutely not the first time we're being intimate.

No just you

Right? Turns out being a decent human is the cheat code.

You know how some people have the crazy eyes?

This dude has the genuinely nice guy eyes.

I thought the same thing. This guy gives "good" vibes. I think he'd be a good friend.

I'm glad you shared this story. People that are homeless face such horrible stereotyping. I consistently correct people that try to belittle homeless people. I'm glad things worked out for you and your beautiful family. We need to show humanity, vote out and imprison this traitor and try to make life more affordable for Americans.

Being honest is freeing and respectable. This is why he won in life. I can’t imagine being married to my wife without complete trust in each other.

Hahaha For me it didn't go well at first. I tried to be so respectful and honest, but I got dumped. Later on, after a few weeks, she decided to call me and that's another story of "That's how I met your Mother..."

OMG! What a great story! I am getting so disillusioned these days about life. But, it is the stories about individuals in their interactions with others that keep me going.

I like that an awkward first date can still lead to a happy couple. It doesn't have to be a fairytale story.

u/sherman40336 9h ago

You asked if she would mind
She said NO, she wouldn’t mind

23

u/lafayette0508 8h ago

the video says "Would you like me to put my arm around you?" Weird attempt at "well, actually-ing".

Fellas, don’t ever let anyone tell you asking for consent is weird. It isn’t

Honesty, humility, and vulnerability. You might not always get what you want, but you’ll always get what you need. And will die with peace in your heart. Happy for this man!

My bf and I when we had our first date. We clicked well and I liked him, he was cute. But then he tried to kiss me and was very mixed up with what he thought was going on lol, and we took out time, and now a year later. We are still together and going strong, and we might be having a a baby soon, he’s so excited

1

u/SabbyFox 7h ago

First dates can be so awkward and confusing, worrying about every word and action, and unspoken expectations and worries. It’s so good y’all made it through and it worked out. Love to see mature and thoughtful comments like these because there can be so much negativity in comments about dating. Kindness, honesty, and patience is the way. Congrats on the baby!

u/Commercial-Co 2h ago

A baby after a year? Well if it works for you, congrats!

lol. this will make people believe this is normal

•

u/Upsidedowncr0w 1m ago

What. I think that's a great think that he asked. That's how I filled in the story before he even said it cause that seemed normal to me. Lovely story
