I once gave my dad a dora the explorer wallet and he always used it💀

u/MadMechem 10h ago

I gave my dad a rubber ducky- it's still on his desk at home, nearly 20 years later.

60

u/MangoCats 8h ago

I gave my Grandfather a magnetic paperclip holder for his desk when I was 9... that was used on his desk for 30 years, until he passed.

16

u/HazelEBaumgartner 5h ago

I made my dad little wooden cutout letters with a jigsaw that said "DAD S" and gave them to him with a rock so that when arranged properly they say "DAD ROCKS". We moved 800 miles and he tossed the rock because he figured he could find a new one but then never got around to it so he just had letters that said DADS, so years later I cut a little apostrophe and glued them all to a board so it said "DAD'S" and then added "DON'T TOUCH" in white paint to hang over his tool bench.

There is no "buy it for life" type wallet that could ever eclipse a gift from your child.

My kid put Grover stickers on my credit cards. The Grover stickers will stay until I am forced to get a new card.

30

u/poo_explosion 6h ago

When you get a new card cut out the stickers on your old card and hang them onto something.

14

u/Dependent_One6034 6h ago

Ayyy Brother!!!! When I got my new card they offered me a custom image on the front, I was able to send them a photo of what I wanted. It was actually free. I'm sure if you ask, you might... be able to get.... If you can't, There are methods. Let me know when the time comes. Maybe I can send you slim vinyls of the images to add to your new card.

My mate modifies cards in a way he's a tad insane, He literally cuts out the chip and pastes it into a new card.

But genuinely. We can make it so you always have that card, if you want. Completely safely.

Both my kids painted me a Father's Day Hat a few years back. It sits in a safe place in my closet except when it's time to mow the lawn. I want them to see me wearing it. Then it gets put right back into it's special spot. It's one of my most prized possessions.

one time my dad took me to his office to kill time before we had to go home when I was in HS(I had something going on right next to his workplace coincidentally), I think I was looking at his cube and he still had old pictures I used to draw for him as
a kid still hung up.

He retired last year, and I think my mom said he went back in just to grab those old drawings I used to do in his cube.

11

u/ItsAPeacefulLife 6h ago

My cube has a lot of drawings from my daughter. I've often had older coworkers stop by and admire/talk with me about them and her. I like to think they are reliving some of their past lives as parents to little ones.

u/STEM-Travel 4h ago

I went to visit my dad at his office and discovered he had a piece of art I did in High School that he had hung upside down for 6 years.

Which was insane… it was a picture from an art class where the assignment was to copy a famous painting. It was a huge horse head he hung upside down?

He was a lawyer. Clients saw this daily.

u/EagleEyezzzzz 1h ago

😂😂😂

30

u/SpaceCadetPullUp 9h ago

When I was fifteen we had to write a poem for English class so I wrote one about my grandfather. He passed away a few years ago and I found out he kept a copy of it folded up in his wallet for almost 25 years.

20

u/woolfchick75 8h ago

I gave my father a ridiculous paperweight with my picture in it. I was 8, in my Brownie uniform and had cat-eye glasses on.

When he died in 2000, I found it on his desk.

Hannah's dad looks like he's bursting with pride.

u/bjohnsonarch 8h ago

My wife taught my son a few sewing basics a few years ago when he was 4. He made me a fabric bookmark. It’s one of my favorite possessions, and it has given me a reason to read a ton now when I previously never did

13

u/K2thJ 9h ago

Still have my #1 Dad trophy I got for Fathers day. It is a gold spray painted cheap paint brush I left in a little epoxy. Sits right next to my record player for everyone to see

9

u/sunshine_rex 5h ago

In whatever Word was called circa 1993, I printed my dad a business card sized sign for his briefcase that said “Best Dad in the World” with some Wingdings of a trophy. I was in third or fourth grade, it was on plain printer paper.

I went home this past spring and Dad still has it binder clipped in his briefcase. I know he’s had several new briefcases over the years, so he has been moving it when he wears one out this whole time.

7

u/zyzzogeton 7h ago

I still have a rock painted red with a smiley face on it my 30 year old son made me when he was 3 or 4. His younger brother made me a sculpey pot he painted gold that he filled with coins he hand stamped to look like dubloons and it is still prominently displayed on my desk.

You just don't throw stuff like that away unless you are a psychopath. You also never get over the wonder of knowing "Someone I made, made that for me."

2

u/Genevieve_crag 6h ago

Dads really do keep everything. The handmade stuff becomes their most expensive possession

2

u/distalented 5h ago

Especially clothing, I’m not a father but I hate having to throw away clothes, and will only do it if it’s too beyond the point of indecency.

2

u/EagleEyezzzzz 1h ago

My dad still wears a webbing belt almost daily that I gave him 25 years ago 😆

1

u/Away-Elephant-4323 57m ago

That is so cute! Haha! I am loving reading all the cute stories of gifts Dads have kept for years, mine kept an envelope that had the character Arthur Read on it and a heart shaped note inside that said thank you dad, i think i was probably like 8 when i gave it to him, he still has it to this day i am 27 now haha! We both don’t even remember what i was thanking him for.

•

u/jceez 29m ago

When my dad passed we were going through important documents… there was a file cabinet with it all in there like the deed to the house and stuff… alongside my hand paintings and stuff from elementary school

1

u/julesthefirst 8h ago

According to Jim Jefferies, they love it because it costs them nothing :)))

-2

u/Mr_R3tro 7h ago

I made my dad a card. He beat me until I yelled for my granny to stop him.

-2

u/AdOnly5876 6h ago

The first year I got a job I bought my dad some really good work boots, he sold them to a coworker.

When I was in the military one of my enlisted higher ups had a Mickey Mouse watch that his son gave him, he wore it every day and leaned into it, whenever he wanted to know the time he'd say "What does Mickey say?" Followed by "Mickey says it's time for (insert event)."

376

u/Djolumn 10h ago

Mickey says it's time for you fucking deadbeats to do 300 burpees.

33

u/Key-Perspective-8133 9h ago

Mickey was just mad at Minnie for fucking Goofy!

21

u/namblaotie 8h ago

Mickey was just mad at Minnie for because she's fucking Goofy!

FTFY

8

u/Chao_stic 7h ago

Cant be mad at her for being a little silly

7

u/Key-Perspective-8133 6h ago

Thanks. English is my first language too lol

10

u/Antique_Toe4444 1h ago

Mickey really woke up and chose violence today 😭 I’d be hiding behind the couch pretending I never heard a thing.

8

u/laurel_laureate 6h ago

Did he do that when giving orders?

"What does Mickey say? Mickey says you need to report to the briefing room by 0800 hours."

When a dad enjoys being a dad....

18

u/Naughty_Teenie 8h ago

Yes
Such a good dad ❤️

u/randotreesinthefen 9h ago

My dad wore the I Love My Daddy tie I got him when I was in kindergarten to my wedding

48

u/woolfchick75 8h ago

Maybe my eyes have been affected by allergies. Don't know why they're drippy.

15

u/OlySonso 9h ago

Oh my heart

132

u/RedWingsFan24 11h ago

Good on him for the tshirt still fitting as well! A good motivation to stay in shape

u/myovarieshurt 11h ago

McNally Robinson in the wild!

27

u/AnaphylacticHippo 11h ago

Saskatoon's McNally is one of my favourite bookstores!

17

u/Jbizzee243 10h ago

The Winnipeg one is great too :)

5

u/Christron 7h ago

The restaurant in the Winnipeg one is awesome

3

u/vaalbarag 7h ago

The Calgary one was great until they closed it to focus on their expansion to (checks notes) Don Mills. It’s been decades and I’m admittedly still a bit bitter about that.

4

u/networknazi 7h ago

I know. Front page reddit and I swear I recognized the guy. Then I looked at her name, and ya, I work with her dad.

4

u/Christron 7h ago

That's why I love Winnipeg small world.

5

u/teeohdeedee123 6h ago

My husband has this chunk of ceramic our daughter painted “Dad” on and it’s covered in glitter as well. She made it when she was probably 6 or 7? It has sat in front of his bathroom sink in every new house and new city we have lived in. He straightens it out when he brushes his teeth daily. She just turned 25 earlier this month ❤️🥰

Once my dad was saving a set of rickety old dining chairs. They weren't anything special so they were my first real "fix it up" project when I was 7 or 8.

It was my job to load up the wood glue into holes (and keep the bottle clean) and sand down scratchy spots with a bit of fine grit sand paper.

Dad helped me a lot with my parts on the first 3 chairs. The 4th chair had a gouge in the seat, but I managed to get all the stuff sanded and glued to Dad's satisfaction on first try.

He kept that 4th gouged up chair. 30 years later, the rest of the dining set is long gone, and the gouged up chair is about to fall apart again. But it sits by his bedside table and holds his clothing and wallet for the next day :)

4

u/blergyblerg696969 6h ago

Awe I absolutely love this! It’s so funny what sticks with our parents, right?! That’s very sweet and endearing 🥰

43

u/Shakeamutt 10h ago

Perfect for a book launch!

Who are you sir?

Points at shirt, grinning

34

u/nbnicholas 10h ago

The amount of little trinkets, sticks, drawings, bracelets, and other things I’ve got saved from my daughter is absurd. She’ll be 10 in December and I know holding onto all of it is going to be so worth it

55

u/Queasy-Amphibian5430 10h ago

Look at that proud smile omg 🥺 he LOVES being Hannah's dad

9

u/Blue_Brilliance 10h ago

Right?? That proud twinkle in his eyes; he’s absolutely beaming!

14

u/restlessmonkey 10h ago

You've probably kept him extra-fit so he could always fit in it!!! ;-)

11

u/Mach5Driver 10h ago

I wear the friendship bracelet my daughter gave me for Christmas 16 years ago. Never taken off.

"Must...Not....Gain...Weight...!"

10

u/Listen2theyetti 9h ago edited 3h ago

Number 1 reason to stay in shape is to never get too big for that shirt

11

u/Here2Cheat 3h ago

Having a shirt that my child made for me would be the only motivation I need not to gain or lose weight.

9

u/aceshighsays 8h ago

low key, partly he's proud that he can still fit into that shirt.

8

u/hpigeon 8h ago

When I was super young I put a painted handprint on a hat that said “[my name]’s Dad” and he wears it whenever he comes over to fix something in my apartment

9

u/Dear_Lab_2270 3h ago

The most impressive thing is that it still fits!

6

u/nikpack 9h ago

Props to Dad for not only keeping the shirt but also still being able to wear it 12 years later.

5

u/THC9001 6h ago

I know it might be bad but,
I'm in love with Hannah's Dad

4

u/CastleBravoXVC 9h ago

Ooh, and at McNally Robinson, too!

3

u/CriticalChapter7353 8h ago

I don’t talk to my dad anymore (because he’s a bigot), but years ago I made him a tiedye hoodie. Almost every time he was home from work in the winter he would wear it, even years after. I’m glad he still has it, even if he’s not in my life anymore.

5

u/steveosnyder 8h ago

A Winnipeggers on the front of /r/all. Your dad really rocks the shirt.

3

u/Ok-Razzmatazz-7593 10h ago

That is so sweet! That shirt means that much to him that he's showing you just how much it meant and still means a lot to your Dad

3

u/Which_Crow_7922 10h ago

And it still fits him!!! 💪

3

u/yogurtloverrr 10h ago

Habeck? Bist du es?

1

u/Ganjalf4-20 8h ago

Haha dachte ich auch kurz ^^

3

u/el-capitancreamsicle 9h ago

That’s genius, now he never has to worry about getting dressed up

3

u/Inner-Eyes 9h ago

Dads would keep such gifts close to there heart , he would wear his daughters name everyday to work

3

u/Crazy_Speed_3700 9h ago

Kids don’t understand how much the little things they do mean to us.

3

u/muttmama13 9h ago

I’m impressed it still fits him perfectly

3

u/Purgii 8h ago

Peak dadding.

3

u/Piscator629 6h ago

I got a Little Shop of Horrors hoodie the night I watched my daughter nail the Audrey musical role. Its my favorite hoodie and I wear it all the time building a huge private Halloween party in Western Michigan, I display about a half million in decorations and animations. If you know you know what I am talking about, no names please.

Him fitting into it perfectly all these years.

3

u/Parkatola 2h ago

My kids made me a Father’s Day tie at church when the youngest two were 6 and 3. I wear it every year on Father’s Day. It’s a white polyester tie that they colored with magic markers. (And my wife and I helped our grandkids make a similar one for their dad.) So I’m totally in favor of this. Cheers.

2

u/Genevieve_crag 6h ago

Every author needs a hype man, and she’s had hers since she was 12

2

u/Fester3787 5h ago

My son made me a spider out of beads when he was around 4, I still have it hanging by my bed. He's 20 now

2

u/Outrageous-Set5895 2h ago

Yay Dad!❤️

2

u/Sensitive_Explorer87 2h ago

We made our dad a Father's Day shirt with paint of all our hand prints. He still wore it when it wouldn't fit over his belly anymore. 😂😂😂

2

u/VariousFriendship535 1h ago

Haha that's so cute. Sometimes I'm envious of people with (happy) relationships with their parents, but I love stuff like this

4

u/ahmc84 9h ago

Good work on his part by staying in good-enough shape for it to still fit on him.

1

u/ChessElise 11h ago

So cute! You are so loved

1

u/Money_Visual_5227 10h ago

Props to Dad for fitting in that shirt 12 years later.
I’m def not close to the same size.
