And since 40% or so of eligible voters don't vote even during presidential cycles, maybe it's even worse.

In recent polls, a clear majority of Americans are strongly negative on ICE. This stuff has risen above the usual noise floor and the usual rules of thumb about people being checked out are out the window at this point.

And 100% is illegal. Not identifying who they are. No due process. Then these fuckers defy court orders.
Anyone that supports this activity, please explain your position in light of the illegalities being committed.
If you do support this, you realize anything goes for anyone, you included, and you are okay being treated the same way?

Amazing right? They’ll stand behind René but not behind the parents who lost their child to an illegal immigrant. Fucking stupid ass beings-crude by man enough is enough!
1
u/crossteyes Jan 18 '26
Not a valid comparison. The government's ice purposely killed a person, a citizen.
In the other case the government created rules which allowed a situation to occur. The intent to kill was not there.

ICE, along with much of this administration, is rotten to the core. They are inept humans who believe that aggression and violence are acceptable in modern society. We would truly be better off if less people thought this way. They’re the same men who are abusive at home, while believing they are raising a family. $50k is a great motivator to get these loser POS to work for the current government.

The governor should declare state of emergency and deploy the National Guard to protect California residents from the Gestapo
Why is it that only the Trump administration can activate the National Guard to terrorize its citizen, but we can't use the same to protect said citizens. Are the states militia not meant to protect us from the derangement of the federal govt?
5
u/bunnyzclan Jan 15 '26
Newsom doesnt have the balls to start a constitutional crisis by ordering the CA National Guard to apprehend and prevent ICE from doing raids.
Instead he'll just tweet some more.
2
Jan 15 '26
What is happening is all the dems are waiting for mid terms and hoping elections stay fair enough that dems can retake the government in 2027.
1
u/EnidEllie Jan 18 '26
When people say Martial Law, what they don’t explain is the President has the authority to federalize the states’ National Guard, making them part of the federal chain of command. So if Newsom deploys the NG, POTUS can and, likely would, federalize them. The National Guard isn’t meant to protect citizens from the federal government, unfortunately. Our check for that is Congress and he has Congress licking his boots.
1
u/EnidEllie Jan 18 '26
Bottom line: no one is coming to save us. We have to fight back. It doesn’t have to be physically with violent force although in some cases it may happen.
We have leverage- our bodies as the work force. If we had a nationwide general strike, corporations would change their tune and demand an end. We are capitalism first and democracy second. Unfortunately, most of us can’t imagine not working- no money, no stability, how do we feed our children? How do we keep the lights on and the rent paid?
This doesn’t end with our lives staying comfortable or even necessarily survivable. We are living the beginning of the downfall of a country. It’s not a hypothetical anymore. We’re in it.

u/writermusictype Jan 15 '26
The doing nothing as we watch Minneapolis making the biggest scene possible when this happens in their neighborhoods is an indictment on the people of LA. Sorry not sorry
5
u/khadrock Hollywood Hills Jan 15 '26
Completely agree. There were only 2 or 3 of them. Talk to other bystanders and fucking band up!
7
u/writermusictype Jan 15 '26
Right! Even that video the other day in Silverlake where they met exactly zero resistance from neighbors. I knew the individualism was strong here (and certainly not with everyone obviously) but it's disheartening. Bravery inspires more bravery
4
u/VoidVer Jan 15 '26
What do you suggest people do differently. Would you honestly have gotten involved physically knowing these guys can execute you with impunity?
5
u/writermusictype Jan 15 '26
A perfect example that just crossed my feed: https://www.reddit.com/r/chaoticgood/s/Z8UNAtgihu
People physically fought back and others fought with their wallets to advance the cause.
Asking "what can we doooo 🥺" is an unserious question when examples are all around, respectfully.
3
u/VoidVer Jan 15 '26
Not what I said. Expecting people to mob armed secret police in defense of a stranger is not reasonable.
Your video does not show this group physically wrestling with the ICE agents over a person they are detaining.
4
u/writermusictype Jan 15 '26
And I didn't say anything about mobbing them. The people in the video put their bodies on the line to literally physically block them so that the person they were targeting would not be taken.
That is but one way or option for resisting. There are many others, some requiring more aggression and risk and some not. But my answer to your original question of what I think people should do remains: literally just something to attempt to protect the vulnerable. Examples for what that looks like abound on this very app.
1
u/EnidEllie Jan 18 '26
I think it’s accurate to say “we can’t expect” anything. Some people, for whatever personal, neurological reasons are risk-adverse. That being said- most of the population is risk-adverse due to a lifetime of unchecked capitalism making our lives impossible, at the very least uncomfortable, to exist without working the majority of our hours, days, years for the machine. I think there are many who would make the risk leap if they are not alone. When they see others being brave, it empowers them to be brave. Minnesota is the perfect example. Journalists have interviewed people out protesting who say they have never ever protested anything. They’ve never put themselves on the line. So I agree, no, we can’t expect anyone to do anything and that’s a hard pill to swallow. Freedom means freedom. Individually to join or refrain and we must allow and respect that choice. But freedom is also not free, as the saying goes, so we must look to the people who choose to join and encourage those on the fence.
1
u/khadrock Hollywood Hills Jan 15 '26
Exactly. Minnesota is showing us what we need to do. They're not gonna stop, and they're not gonna get easier to fight as time goes on.

u/writermusictype Jan 15 '26
I suggest they/we do what we've been seeing the people of Minneapolis do for a week straight. There are videos everywhere. Does it look fun? No. Are people getting seriously harassed and hurt? Yes. But acting like there's no other option but to just let our neighbors get taken away and allow fascism to continue to take hold without any sort of resistance is dishonest at this point. I understand that bravery often comes at great personal sacrifice, but it's choice that is being made daily by ordinary people and we have the proof. The other choice is cowardice, which anyone is free to make but it should be called what it is.
We fight by everyone deciding to do something. If you can't directly fight or do good, then identify the people trying to do good and help them. Whether that's financially or donating your time in some way. Everyone has to say to themselves "I can't just sit here" and actually mean it and then find something they can do. Tweeting through it with righteous indignation isn't going to get it done.
3
u/bi-cycle Jan 15 '26

It works like this. They go there because they have some information about someone who has overstayed their visa and is in their records. Once they’re there and get that person, they also start asking everyone around who they suspect of being immigrants for proof of their citizenship. So while it could be argued that one person initially might have reason to be questioned by immigration, it becomes a foot in the door to ask or harass another 20 or 30 people in the vicinity.
It’s fucked and not at all what our constitution allows.

Well in LA we have a 16% voter turnout for local off-cycle elections. Last national election I think like 50 million eligible voters didn't bother to vote nationwide?
In California the mail-in ballots are default and postage is free. Yet we still can't get people to vote.
So it's not just voting for this, but also not voting against it that is the problem. And until we stop with the rallies and the nonsense and focus on getting voters engaged to actually go vote when the time comes this will never stop.
We live in a society where a criminal record means no good job and no good place to live. Those stakes are too high for people to just "rise up." We have to win through process. And that means taking 3 minutes to fill out a ballot and put it in the mailbox.
22
u/lurkhardur Jan 14 '26
Not sure what you're getting at. Trump already lost California, so more of them voting against him wouldn't make a difference.
8
u/Hollowpoint38 Downtown Jan 14 '26
Getting a mayor that works better than Bass? You guys get upset at LAPD but the mayor appoints the Chief. Other states have been able to work out deals with the White House to get less of this ICE presence. Didn't SF work out some deal on something recently and Trump backed off?
We need some real leadership. Bass isn't it.
9
u/lurkhardur Jan 15 '26
I agree that Bass is too conservative and in the pocket of LAPD. But putting the ICE raids on her is just deflecting. Do you also think the mayor of Minneapolis is responsible for Renee Good’s murder?
7
u/TherapistOfOP Jan 15 '26
It was between bass and that billionaire fuck though...not much of a choice
1
u/Hollowpoint38 Downtown Jan 15 '26
Not responsible as in their fault, but responsible if they didn't do everything possible to keep the ICE raids out. We know if you kiss Trump's ring and make public overtures then he leaves you alone. The Japanese PM did that and got on Trump's good list instantly. They had briefings telling her not to contradict him in public and make sure to compliment him. Easy win.
Have these mayors done that? If they haven't, then yeah they bear some responsibility for not doing everything they can to effectively govern.
1
u/Frosty_Dinner_6593 Jan 15 '26
Low voter turnout reveals more than just low participation on election day, it reveals the need for political participation on a mass level. for activation of people realizing that their daily lives are at stake. that's one of the things that has been systematically suppressed in this country, especially through mccarthyism and red scare tactics where anything having to do with fundamental human rights is inherently deemed subversive and "too out there"

Are we all just gonna stand there and watch as one by one we are all taken. The numbers are not going to be greater than they are today. When the community comes together in numbers that’s when they leave. There are literally thousands of people on this block every Wednesday, we need to drive them out as a community anytime we see this happen. 2 or 3 ICE pussies can kidnap anyone they want but when +20 are up against you they will nope out every time. Why? because they have no fucking spines without their guns etc. They’re the ones who created this war-like environment of fear we live in now and it can be used both ways.

In their defense, standing and filming is the safest thing you can do. The government holds a monopoly on violence, so much as shoving an officer will land you in a prison for an enormous amount of time. Not everyone is ready to take that kind of risk… yet.
47
u/EyeChihuahua Jan 14 '26
It’s terribly difficult because that is what they want. If Renee Good had gotten out of her car and shoved that ICE officer the administration would have had such an easy time spinning the narrative. We’re still in a place, hopefully, where the increasing unpopularity of all this can flip over on this administration and wipe them out.
