"That'll be 4000$."

u/chemist_slime 17h ago

MSRP $1,499, actual price, 4k+

u/Makers7886 17h ago

Due to unusual demand we shall have a contest to determine who is eligible to purchase. The program will be called "The Hunger Games".

As long as the MSRP is that, you will have a chance to get it for that. Remember some vendors will sell it for MSRP. Amongst them Nvidia itself. Sure, just like with the 5090, you will have to sign up and wait for your chance in line. But that's how many people got their 5090s for MSRP well after the price had already skyrocketed.

u/siete82 16h ago

And 5000€ in Europe of course

3

u/Alternative-Suit5541 16h ago

Too low. 5600 at least

6

u/ReadyAimTranspire 14h ago

Promo price for Q1 - $5080

1

u/Eelroots 7h ago

Hyronical but not too much.

2

u/twice_paramount832 16h ago

Only realistically obtainable via Nvidia store with alerts. Otherwise forget about it.

4

u/Emergency-Barber-431 15h ago

You mean, with bots

1

u/twice_paramount832 14h ago

Discord alerts, yes.

2

u/Slaghton 15h ago

If used 3090's are going for $1500, and used 4090's around $3000+ then around $4000 seems pretty accurate :\.

1

u/IntelArtiGen 10h ago

Either it's sold out or it's that price.

1

u/RogerRamjet999 16h ago

Don't forget the tax, in most parts of the US that'll be an extra $400.

u/Mackendy-Duboi 15h ago

and thats being optimistic lol

u/FuckedUpPerson559 16h ago

This is going to be such a nightmare.

DO NOT sell your 5080 16GB for this one, AI company are going to buy every single 24gb card they can, the price is going to be at least 3-4k and it WILL go up, the black market is going to go crazy over this, it's not even about the prices of a 5080 anymore, it's what's inside, it might even make the 16GB 5080 price go even higher

If you can get your hands on one cool, but don't just expect to order one and receive it one week later lol.

Imagine if the cable is still shitty...

12V HPWR connector is a way to enforce planned obsolescence by leather jacket. If GPUs don’t go kaput people won’t be forced to pay exorbitant money for new ones. Number won’t go up, new leather jackets won’t be bought.

3

u/sleight42 12h ago

I've been avoiding it but I'm increasingly tempted to buy a mining frame, a mobo with 7-8x PCIe 16x slots, and a fuck ton of V100s because fuck all of this.

1

u/twice_paramount832 16h ago

Only obtainable from Nvidia store and via alerts. Otherwise you will pay 2X MSRP.

if you cannot recognize a bot, you should not try to do so and restrain yourself from commenting

Your comment was definitely written by an llm and your account is 8 days old. Atleast try to be convincing on your next attempt!

1

u/FuckedUpPerson559 0m ago

my english is bad enough for my comment to not have been written by a LLM, my account is 8 days old because weird guys like you absolutely love to check every single account they do not agree with.

it's embarassing, i'm just going to block you.

41

u/LegacyRemaster 17h ago

It will probably cost as much as my RTX 6000 did last year.

28

u/GestureArtist 16h ago

my RTX Pro 6000 costs 2X what it cost last year.

Nvidia is just selling less and less compute for the dollar.

0

u/RogerRamjet999 16h ago

Look on the bright side, you can now sell your RTX 6000 and buy 2 of these. Yay???

13

u/a_beautiful_rhind 17h ago

Cool way to get blackwell.. if it was cheap. It won't be.

12

u/Happy-Personality720 12h ago

Gaming hardware is regressing

7

u/N34257 15h ago

And, when it launches, it'll be more expensive than the current 5090.

Also, what happened to the 5090 SE?

6

u/throw_in_the_towel 16h ago

Ah yes, and then they should release a 5070 18gb and 5060 ti 24gb to drive us all insane.

7

u/HighSeasArchivist 16h ago

$1500 I'll buy one until the 6090s hit. $2k I'll stick with my 5070 Ti.

11

u/socialjusticeinme 14h ago

I wouldn’t count on the 6090 being a thing when you can take the same chip, slam some more ram on it, then sell it as a “pro” line for pretty much anything you want. My bet is we are going back to the days where the “80” chips were the top for consumers and occasionally someone would buy a Titan GPU to show off how rich they were - this was the case up until the 3090 was released.

The even more doomer/cynical side of me is thinking Nvidia and AMD are done with dedicated consumer GPUs outside of SoC designs. They want everyone paying a meter in the cloud and their neural rendering crap pushing it from the data centers so they generate value while not churning ai tokens.

1

u/HighSeasArchivist 13h ago

Either way. I have dual R9700s now, so whatever is the top next round is what it will be. By the time they come out the Big AI guys will either be past the breaking point, or broke.

8

u/betam4x 15h ago

This may be a horrible take, however I think this is a poor attempt by NVIDIA to better segment gaming and AI workloads, rather than having gaming GPUs get swallowed by AI folks. They want AI folks buying the RTX Pro 6000 series.

It won’t work, of course, unless they limit the type of workloads the gaming cards can run.

10

u/MichiruMatsushima 14h ago

attempt by NVIDIA to better segment gaming and AI workloads

It's nowhere near that innocent.

Look at what they did with the Spark thing. 128GB --> f.u. level of pricing, 64GB --> offering you less memory for the price of a bigger 128GB package.

So, 5090 --> piss off, no more of that stuff for you (you're too poor to buy it anyway).

5080 24G --> gonna cost as 5090 before the recent $7k jump, so likely $2000 MSRP with the real prices being somewhere around $2500 - 3000.

5

u/SexyAlienHotTubWater 9h ago

That's not what's happening. The memory manufacturers have discontinued 2GB GDDR modules, so they're having to upgrade to 3GB in order to keep producing the same GPU.

2

u/wolvAUS 6h ago

Aww poor Nvidia finally has to start offering more vram

2

u/SunnasArmpit 5h ago

so why did they increase it from 16 to 24 couldnt they do 18gb then 6x3gb

1

u/betam4x 8h ago

Except that they are discontinuing the 5090 for the same reason, while not discontinuing the RTX Pro 6000.

2

u/mindwip 15h ago

I thought same thing, even a 5090 with 24gb would be good for gamers. But 5080 24gb i guess.

1

u/CCloak 14h ago

5090 24GB exists already, it was 5090dv2 exclusively for China, 384bit 24GB instead of 512bit 32GB, gaming performance is almost identical.

1

u/KitaiSuru 5h ago

The 6000 use the better-binned GB202 chip than the 5090.

3

u/scientiaetlabor 16h ago

Annnd smaller AI companies will order them by the pallet if they're viable products that are cheaper than what's commercially available for decent performance.

2

u/Need_For_Speed73 16h ago

Price actually depends on VRAM size: ATM a 5080 32GB would cost much more than a 5090 16GB (while in the past it was, obviously, the opposite).

2

u/MrHumanist 16h ago

Data centers will buy in bulk. The consumer market price will be heavily inflated.

2

u/ZarBandit 13h ago

Buying a 5090 6 months ago feels a little less stupid now than it did at the time.

2

u/sleight42 12h ago

Give us 5080 32GB and we'll talk

6

u/Area51-Escapee 9h ago

I'm with you. Why is everyone so excited? It's only 24 GB. Now 48 would be a real game changer. Everyone will say I'm crazy so ok ok let's settle for 32.

2

u/sleight42 9h ago

Give me all of the vram. At 48, I'd take 2. But it'll never happen. Or maybe it will and they'll street for 7k like the 6000 pro did a year or two ago.

All of us here just want a frontier - 1 to 2 year model to be able to run at home across a few different parallel requests....

1

u/muminisko 1h ago

On 32GB you can run capable local models. They don’t like it :)

2

u/GoodSamaritan333 9h ago

So...there is the long ago promised 5070 Ti Super with 24 GB of VRAM.

2

u/Eastern-Ingenuity353 6h ago

Isn’t that pretty much the laptop 5090?

1

u/Gloomy_Efficiency680 6h ago

No, 5090 laptop raw performance is weaker than 5070Ti 10%, so weaker than 5080 around 25%

3

u/q-admin007 16h ago

80% of the product will end up in China. Mark my words.

1

u/_Valdez 17h ago

$8000 min if you can get one

1

u/Mediocre_Safety5743 13h ago

I think 24GB would probably be enough for a lot of the local models I want to try. It really just depends on the price I think.

1

u/sleight42 12h ago

Can we "just" backport CUDA13 drivers for unsupported chipsets? Then we buy all of the V100s in the world (and watch the price go up on those too)

This is starting to look like a world where new cars are so expensive that non-rich would-be owners are resurrecting carburetor-era cars just to be able to drive.

1

u/Ka-Chow-mf 11h ago

Wouldn't the ai bros scoop these as well given how much vram they have?

1

u/Green-Ad-3964 8h ago

Next top end rubin based hw will be an 80 class gpu at a price of a 90 class or more. Granted. End of games for gamers.

1

u/CiobanuXashi 6h ago

The funniest part is board partners still waiting for details. The card's over a year out and even the people who have to build it are working from the same rumour we are.

1

u/Ok_Warning2146 4h ago

I think there will be a 6080 32gb but no 6090

1

u/thestillwind 17h ago

So it was not a rumour, it was true. Fuck man…

1

u/teressapanic 14h ago

shrinkflation

0

u/Alifelifts 15h ago

Will prices of used 4090s come down after such release?

9

u/alpacadaver 15h ago

Why would they? Will local models get worse next year? You and 100 million people are the demand, the supply is essentially static.

3

u/CalligrapherFar7833 11h ago

No because they use the 4090 to make them into 4090 48gb

0

u/Guinness 14h ago

Why can't they release different versions with different amounts of VRAM? Give consumers a choice, a 5080 with 64 gigs of VRAM would be nice.

1

u/ColoredTriangles 4h ago

They call it rtx pro 5000 48/72 GB. They don't have a 64GB.

0

u/vulcan4d 13h ago

Oh I have no doubt it is coming but at an absurd cost. Also it should be the 6080 24GB. Nvidia is doing Nvidia things.

0

u/roculus 5h ago

How to convince the Nvidia shareholders: Why sell 5090's when we can discontinue those and sell 5080's with 8GB less VRAM for the same price as the 5090 because it will still be the best GPU for AI available under $16K?

Nvidia doesn't care about the gamers/local AI. They want to maximize profit with zero competition. Greed.

-1

u/LeaveDisastrous8030 16h ago

those delays in specs make it tough to plan upgrades for smoother local roleplay sessions.

-17

u/AnonsAnonAnonagain 17h ago

This pisses me off. It’s going to devalue my existing 5080 (16GB)

7

u/Keesual 15h ago edited 15h ago

What kind of GPU NIMBYism is this lmao

6

u/FullstackSensei 17h ago

As things have been through history. Don't worry, the way things are going your 5080 might end up even more expensive than it is now

6

u/ggadget6 15h ago

Then sell it now. GPUs are not supposed to be appreciating assets

-2

u/AnonsAnonAnonagain 14h ago

THANK YOU, WARREN BUFFETT. I HAD NO IDEA.

1

u/wolvAUS 6h ago

Haha sucks to be you

1

u/thestillwind 17h ago

Should’ve bought a 5070ti instead

0

u/AnonsAnonAnonagain 17h ago

I only like Founders cards.

1

u/Educational-Region98 16h ago

How will it devalue your 5080... it's basically the flagship model now without the 5090 in production and still has #2 when the new card comes out. If anything, it will be closer to the 5080 24gb due to having the same compute.

-4

u/AnonsAnonAnonagain 16h ago

a 16GB 5080 will be worth less than a 24GB 5080.
not just price wise, but market perception. it will be undesirable

5

u/Educational-Region98 16h ago

You're assuming that the 5080 24gb won't be sold out like the 5090

2

u/q-admin007 16h ago

But the 16GB 5080 will be available at least. The 24GB 5080 will simply not be available. What will be available will be bought by smaller KI players or move to China (via Singapore or Malaysia).

1

u/AnonsAnonAnonagain 14h ago

AFAIK. The 16Gb 5080 and 32Gb 5090 will be discontinued

1

u/Sudden-Guide 11h ago

Then you could get the PCB of 24GB one for cheap, solder your core + additional memory and... Profit! ;)
