It’s so weird to use AI for this pic when I guarantee it exists as a stock photo.

Yeah but then theyd have to pay Getty or whatever agency has it as a stock photo. Also why does AI commonly have that cigarette smoke yellow coloring?

Guarantee SNL as a business has a membership for shutterstock so there’s really no excuse

Right. This technology is being pushed from on high into everything you use and watch because a whole lot of extremely powerful and wealthy people have an extreme amount of money riding on it. Important to push back on its lazy implementation in places like this where pushback can be effective.

How would pushback here be effective lol? Sure it’s AI, but it wasn’t some crazy or unique image where having an artist do it would’ve changed or made it better in any way. When the other option is literally stock images, what’s really the difference? I say this as someone who refuses to use AI and thinks all the dorks using it to exist in the world is lame.

What’s really the difference?

  1) The picture being used sucks. It’s immediately obvious it’s not a real person, the slot machines look like arcade cabinets displaying iPhone desktops rather than slots and everything pictured looks uncanny. It’s an ugly cartoon facsimile that isn’t even properly illustrating the thing it’s meant to illustrate. It’s cheap. It’s lazy. And worst of all it distracts from the joke.

2) Forcing these systems into our workflows is designed specifically to move money from the professionals who do this work into the pockets of billionaire pieces of garbage, regardless of the work being subpar or whether anyone would choose to use or engage with it were we not being forced to. It’s therefore very important to let companies know that allowing the AI industry to hijack their workflows is more trouble than it’s worth by calling them out because, unless there’s pushback, they’ll continue until everything becomes sloppy garbage like this.
