General Questions/Discussion Looper reverse effect

I haven't bought a helix yet I'm trying to research everything first so I have a full understand of if I'm going to need any additional pedals to the helix if it can't do everything I want when I rebuild my rig from 15+ effects down to as minimal as possible pedals/rack effects, so if I could get away with just the helix and 2 expansion exp pedals that'd be amazing.

Essentially I want to play through the looper reverse so my guitar will come through backwards like the boomerang phrase sampler can do. With the boomerang if you press direction before tapping record 2times to establish the length of the loop your guitar will play backwards simultaneously while youre playing your guitar but if you press the thru mute button you will only hear the reverse guitar. Is the Helix capable of doing this? or will I need my boomerang along with the Helix to accomplish this?

Hello fellow phish fan. For this, I would just use the reverse delay and set the mix to 100% so you are only hearing the reverse sound. You can do lots of fun funk siren stuff in the helix too!

I'll give it a try when I get one. The boomerang is just so crisp for this effect that when I tried it with other delays I've had there's a notable difference with the way the notes come out more of a zoom or ramp up to the notes than them just coming out clean.

I gotcha. It will probably have a different flavor. I have never tried the boomerang, but I'm happy with the reverse delay in the helix for this type of thing.

Haha well don't let my thoughts change your perspective too much. Like I said, I have never used the boomerang so I can't compare. Your need is pretty specific. I would try and find a unit that you can test.

It's mainly just wanting to downsize significantly if I can substitute nearly every pedal I have for the helix it's already a win.

The helix looper has a reverse button for your loops, but you can also use the reverse delay if you want a simultaneous reverse/dry sound.

What about only reverse no dry

Yes just turn the mix to 100%, all the delays usually have a mix setting. You can also assign any controls (mix, feedback, ect) to a button or the expression pedal also to make it faster to change settings.

I'm pretty sure the reverse delay would be closer to what you're looking for, just mess around with the subdivisions/Millisecond settings

I have had delays with the reverse setting that didn't quite sound like my boomerang does. If you wouldn't mind checking out the link and letting me know if appreciate it.

Oh wait you're saying I could assign delay rate to an expression pedal, that sounds like it would work. I'm just gonna have to get the helix and play around with it
