How to fix crashes when google-chrome corrupts your font cache
If you use Google Chrome, you may notice that after a recent upgrade, various KDE applications crash, and plasmashell gets stuck in a crash loop if you reboot. Chrome is writing corrupt fontconfig cache data that's making things go weird. If this is happening to you, rm -rf ~/.cache/fontconfig and reboot, this should get your system working again. Then after launching Chrome, pop open Konsole and run rm -rf ~/.cache/fontconfig again to erase the corrupt data before it can mess anything else up (and then close the Konsole window you just opened since it will have the corrupt data loaded in potentially and could crash at any time).

Is it crazy to still be running x11 over Wayland?
Since I landed on Kubuntu a few months ago as my distro of choice, I've had the option to run it with Wayland or x11. At first I ran Wayland but found that some of the apps I use weren't running right. So thru a little online research I found out that I could choose between the older x11 and the newer Wayland. Since I started using x11 everything has run right even as Kubuntu itself has been updated. I'm using a MSI Gf65 thin with a 10th gen i5 and a GTX 1650 Max Q for graphics. I mostly game on Steam, surf the web using Firefox, and dabble a bit with OBS and audacity.

I just installed Kubuntu on my Dell XPS 13 9350 what do you all think of this setup?
I installed Kubuntu on a Dell XPS 13 9350 using a 64GB USB drive,I ran into an issue during my first installation attempt because my old 8GB USB drive was only USB 2.0, so I got a new 64GB USB 3.0 drive and flashed it using BalenaEtcher. I then set up Kubuntu to see what it was like—this was my first time installing it on actual hardware, as I had previously only used virtual machines—and I'm dual-booting it with Windows 10.

I think I screwed up the packages for real
I was attempting to disable/remove 3rd party packages to fix my noble to resolute upgrade as per my previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Kubuntu/comments/1x28fc3/task_manager_refuses_to_load/
I tried to follow this tutorial https://dredyson.com/fix-how-to-disable-non-ubuntu-repositories-and-remove-third-party-packages-in-under-5-minutes-the-complete-quick-fix-guide-that-actually-works/ https://dredyson.com/fix-how-to-disable-non-ubuntu-repositories-and-remove-third-party-packages-in-under-5-minutes-the-definitive-quick-fix-guide-that-actually-works/
It got my OS into a state where it couldn't get past the splash.
I tried to fix it with recovery mode (mostly dpgk option and in terminal apt update/upgrade/autoremove and attempting to restore my original package state with apt install $(cat ~/third_party_packages_backup.txt)). But now I cannot advance beyond picture above state.

Looks like the new Adobe knock-off suite by Artcraft is in discovery center available as a snap already.
Curious if anyone has used it yet?

I Encountered and Fixed Some Issues on Kubuntu 26.04.1 LTS
Recently I fresh-installed Kubuntu 26.04.1 LTS (7.0.0-38-generic + Wayland) on my ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 AMD. I list what I fixed below:
Firstly, Wayland Picture-in-Picture protocol is still pending as of now, so Firefox PIP is basically unusable on KDE Plasma 6.6.6.
You have to add a window rule to regain the X11-equivalent experience. The following makes PIP windows on top of other windows and allows multiple ones to coexist:

Secondly, when you run AppImage applications, you may see the error message dlopen(): error loading libfuse.so.2. The reason is that the dependency package is not installed by default. Therefore, the quick fix is to execute sudo apt install libfuse2t64.
Thirdly, after I set scale to 150% in Display Configuration, VLC's menu bar seems a little larger compared to the one in Dolphin:

So you need to add the environment variable QT_SCALE_FACTOR=0.75 (0.75 is perfect in my case, YMMV) in KDE Menu Editor:

Lastly, if you find the system tray is blurry to your eyes like the upper one in the screenshot, append QT_SCALE_FACTOR_ROUNDING_POLICY=Round in ~/.profile and log out. The default value in Qt 6 is PassThrough (read the official Qt6 documentation for more).

Hopefully the post is helpful.

Screen blacks out and occasionally restores for a split second. Only during full screen apps
This is after an upgrade to the newest lts. 26.04.1 this also occurs on a fresh live boot usb.
Cpu: amd ryzen 5000 series
Gpu : 6700xt
I've already tried reinstalling the gpu drivers. What are my next troubleshooting steps?
Ps. Pc also occasionally freezes shortly after boot
Edit.
Live boot usb works properly on seperate pc. Amd ryzen 5800x3d Radeon 7900xtx
Is there any way this isn't the gpu dieing?

Upgrade von Kubuntu 24.04 auf 26.04 scheitert mit Fehlermeldung
Hallo zusammen.

Task manager refuses to load

Started occurring after I upgraded my system to kubuntu 26.04 lts.
Claims it cannot find the lib plugin file, even though it's right there where it should be.
EDIT: Solved, but in a really awful way. I should've just uninstalled 3rd party packages one by one instead of trying to get rid of them all at once with commands copypasted from the first tutorial which somehow uninstalled kubuntu-desktop

why do I get KWin — Crash Handler often, when I open my PC?
in most cases, it ain't change anything, but it's a bit annoying that I get this message. The only time, when it destroyed a lot of things was the Brave Browser crash(thx to one commentator I solved the issue). I thought if Ubuntu is a pretty stable distro, then Kubuntu is basically = Ubuntu + KDE

Softest reboot for Kubuntu 26.04 LTS?
I would like to use a command line script to initiate a shutdown and/or reboot of Kubuntu 26. I used to use
qdbus org.kde.Shutdown /Shutdown logoutAndReboot
but qdbus does not seem to be included or not functional at the moment. For clarity, I am not interested in the Linux commands shutdown or reboot commands. Those usurp control from KDE manager, and that will forcibly kill a number of applications. I have also been recommended systemctl but that seems to likewise force exit sub-apps. Ideally, I want to initiate the same routine from command line that would be performed if I would press the logout/reboot/shutdown button inside the KDE desktop.

I built Omarchy for Ubuntu: A turnkey bootable Hyprland OS on Ubuntu LTS with 22 dynamic themes and automated dual-display management
I've been working on a project to bridge the gap between bleeding-edge Wayland tiling window managers and enterprise-grade system stability: **Omarchy for Ubuntu**.
Traditionally, if you want to run Hyprland with fluid animations and modern tiling, you're pushed toward rolling-release distros like Arch or NixOS, which require constant maintenance and can break with proprietary drivers or enterprise workloads. If you try to compile Hyprland on Ubuntu yourself, you often end up in dependency and portal hell.
**Omarchy for Ubuntu** solves this by providing a complete, bootable Linux operating system distribution:
### ✨ What’s Inside:
* **True Standalone OS**: Ships as a hybrid **UEFI/BIOS bootable Live ISO** (`omarchy-ubuntu-*.iso`) built using an automated in-house compiler.
* **Intelligent Multi-Display**: Automatically prevents monitor overlapping at `0x0` coordinates and includes a native GUI monitor manager (`omarchy-displays-gui`).
* **Studio-Grade PipeWire Audio**: Instant sink toggling (`Super + Shift + A`) with ALSA stereo fallback to prevent HDMI TV converter stalls.
* **Persistent Daemon Architecture**: Status bar (`Waybar`) and wallpaper engine (`Swaybg`) run as managed `systemd` user units with monitor readiness polling loops (no fragile terminal scripts).
* **22-Theme Live Sync Engine**: Switch between Tokyo Night, Catppuccin Mocha, Nord, Gruvbox, Everforest, and 17 others instantly with `Super + Ctrl + Shift + Space` — re-tints Hyprland borders, Waybar pills, Wofi launcher, and Alacritty terminal with 0 restarts.
* **Turnkey Live Environment**: Direct autologin into the live Hyprland session with passwordless sudo (`omarchy:omarchy`) and installer to disk.
### 📦 Download & Source Code:
* **GitHub Repository**: https://github.com/apravint/omarchy-ubuntu
* **Latest ISO Download**: https://github.com/apravint/omarchy-ubuntu/releases/tag/v26.04.0
* **One-line Upgrade for existing Ubuntu users**:
`curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/apravint/omarchy-ubuntu/main/install.sh | bash`
I would love to get your feedback, bug reports, and hardware compatibility test results!

Refusing to install without acpi=off
New laptop, all the bullshit off in bios (fast boot, safe boot etc). The installer however keeps hanging on "Booting a command list" with whatever I throw at it, noapic, pci=noacpi, acpi=noirq etc. The only way the installer progress anywhere is with acpi off, but I'm afraid the install will be handicapped with acpi off. Using 26.04.1 LTS on a usb stick
edit: fixed by an bios update

Install DEBs from USB - Fresh Install of Kubuntu 26.04
This is a variation of 'how do I install packages offline', but I'm also limited to a public Windows PC. There's nuance in dependency resolution, so having a tool download the files without reference to the machine they're installed on is a problem.
I need to install gcc-15, binutils, and Blender, and my fresh install is having none of it. I also can't install the proprietary Nvidia drivers for Wayland.
I think if I noted which versions of whichever packages are already installed, I might be able to work out what to download and put it in a script or tool.
