Drive Time has been a solid 5 stars, recommend tonight.

Absolutely flawless execution. No notes.

Kevin Sur is crushing it on the morning show.
That’s it. That’s the post. Definitely going to be revisiting this show in the archive a lot over the next couple weeks.

Hello friends, I used to attend death and music before there was such thing as buying tickets before hand. I forgot to look and see what date it was this year so I’m feeling a little bit sad that it’s sold out.

Does anyone have two extra tickets?

And if you did, how would I get them?

Hello KEXP friends,

Monday is Indigenous Peoples' Day and we have an exciting day of programming. Both on the airwaves and in person. Aside from amazing Indigenous programming all day, you can join us in the gathering space for Bring-It / Screen-It! Make your own Sounds of Survivance shirt, shopping bag, or whatever swag you have for donations of any amount to United Indians Of All Tribes Foundation.

We'll also be broadcasting from Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center from 10am - 4pm.

Join us!

THE FIX IS IN.

Was hoping to re-listen to it but I'm not seeing it anywhere on the streaming archive. Am I just blind or is it missing for some reason? I see The Afternoon Show at 1:07 and then El Sonido.

540 songs from the 90s is a lot, especially when the genres included hip hop and electronica and pop. Were there any surprise absences for you?

I was kind of surprised at the relative lack of Tool (I think Sober was the only song on the list) and complete absence of Primus.

I was also disappointed that The Immortals’ Techno Syndrome (Mortal Kombat) didn’t make it, considering how awesomely 90s that track is.

I was in the Navy when that song came out. Had to get paperwork once a week first time in the morning. Show up and the person who I needed the paperwork never had it ready. I was on his time... This song was on each time I showed up.

So now that the drive is over I am curious what everyone who donated got as their gifts. I am at the $10 level so got the shirt and the You are not Alone poster. It surprised me that the poster and the tote bag were the only $10 items. Like there weren't even any keychains or patches. I wonder how long it will be before there aren't any $10 a month items.

I would like to go up to $15 a month but I'm Canadian and between the crappy exchange rate, the not getting any tax credit for the donation and the extra service charge on my card it's hard to justify.

Also speaking of donations I find it weird that on the donate page there is a $48/month button and an $84/month button but they get you the exact same thing. Then again I also find it weird that there is no way to donate enough to get the shirt, the beanie and the hoodie.

Did anyone compile a list of the top 90s songs during the drive?

I’m hoping it’s not something obvious like “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.

How it is not in the top 100? One spot ahead of Semi-Charmed Life. I need to lie down.

Sources were CMJ/Gavin Report radio industry magazines (what was actually played on College radio, and commercial and non-commercial Alternative stations in the US and Canada)

Pazz & Jop Year End Best Ofs (which used over 50 music critics)

John Peel/Janice Long playlists (BBC indie/new wave)

My own deep dives using RYM/Discogs

Steve Hoffmann forums/reddit

Everything was then filtered through my personal taste.

Averages around 300+ songs per playlist, with the early to mid 80s having 400+ songs.

1 song per artist per year.

Will be adding more when I can.

y'all

if you voted for 2 princes you should have to shoulder the load of the ENTIRE pledge drive.

my earholes will never recover.

I've been working on this multi-station streaming site for a little while and wanted to share it now that I think I've worked out most of the bugs.

thelongwave.net

It pulls years of playlists from DJs at KEXP, KCRW, WNCW and a bunch of others, and goes song to song using only song transitions a real DJ made on air. It will find segues that span between DJs and even between stations, moving freely throughout.

There are genre pairings up top to help get started, or you can pick DJs yourself. Unfortunately, it only works with Apple Music at the moment. I tried getting Spotify to work but haven't been able to yet.

Of course we're in the pledge drive, so don't use it this week until AFTER you've donated, otherwise that's lame :)

If you find any issues, feel free to reach out to me here or on the about button.

Hope you guys enjoy!

holy hell, whoever voted for this crap has terrible taste. glad the djs are in charge most of the time.

Hi KEXP friends, I've been working on assembling an Apple Music playlist of the top 540 90's songs — you can find it here if you'd like to follow it. So far I've updated it to include 540 through 400; I'll aim to add the rest of the list in batches of 100.

Please let me know if you spot any errors or omissions! (I am aware that there's currently one hole in the list — "When You Sleep" by my bloody valentine does not appear to be on Apple Music.)

Edit: The Apple Music playlist is complete as of today (10/10). Let me know if you find any issues with it.

The vinyl club is totally worth it the other shwag that comes with it is prime! This coming from a dude who recently bought a giant purple Sterolab laundry bag at their merch table

I know there have been a handful of these over the years, but I decided to make my own for reasons…

Long story short, if you’re like me, you’re at home and have KEXP playing all day every day. Sometimes you just wanna be able to have a quick glance and get the info for what’s playing.

This is a little chrome extension that you can use as either a pop-up or a sidebar to show you what’s going on right now on KEXP. It refreshes its data once a minute and shows things like album art song title, artist, and any DJ comments that are published.

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/kexp-now-playing/ljddmodlgpkjekajgecjnjocfachmobl

If you don’t feel like loading a chrome extension, or don’t even use chrome, it also just publishes as a regular webpage on GitHub.

https://overcastlabs.github.io/kexp-now-playing

It’s got the usual slate of options like dark mode, light mode, and how many tracks you want to show in the history. If you run into any problems or have any feature requests, feel free to drop an issue on GitHub.

Thanks, and rock on fellow amplifiers!

So this thread is to track what people have seen as the bonus gifts for this year's drive. The standard gifts are the shirt and the toque (beanie) for $10/ month and the zip up hoodie for 20.

Right now if you do $15/month or more you also get a mug.

Since the bonus gifts often show up multiple times over the drive I find this kind of thread is helpful so people can know what to watch for.
