serious hot take Science has become toxic

I can't really explain the situation in full because it is too complicated, but briefly, I have a master's degree in physics and I have been a hobbyist in the subject ever since I graduated while I worked in IT. Usually it was in the evenings but sometimes I would be reading some physics in my lunch break. Sometimes it was when I didn't have a lot going on that day. Anyway, the point is, I managed to find time for this and although I didn't spend a few extra years doing a PhD, I have spent 15 years studying it in my spare time and working on my own research project.

And I think I have some good ideas. I'm not a crackpot, I had a core knowledge of the subject from university and I greatly expanded this in the years since and worked out some of my own ideas. Yes, it's unusual, but there are 8 billion people on planet; you do get some strange people doing interesting things.

Well, in my naivety, I thought I was going to find people legitimately interested in my ideas. Instead I found a bunch of apes jumping up and down, throwing shit.

On most subreddits and forums you are banned immediately for even mentioning a personal theory. I was perma-banned for "spam" from Physics Forums, within 5 minutes of first posting, just for mentioning I had a theory.

It is no exaggeration to say that multiple times now, people on physics subreddits actually have tried to bully me when I started a thead asking for advice, or to vent about the difficult process. Most of the comments were contained insults and some people actually showed a desire to humiliate; many comments falsely accused me of generating a paper with AI, even though there was no basis for this claim at all; in fact it is the most un-AI-like physics paper you could imagine.

All of this and they didn't even know the title or the abstract of my paper, let alone the content.

They would say that I'm the delusional one. I would say that they are delusional for vastly overestimating themselves relative to me. It is like they think their PhD sheepskin makes them superior mortals.

I seem to remember the days when scientists were really nice people. What has happened? The people who were going after me, come across like insecure incels. Even if I was a crackpot, what harm was I doing? Nobody is going to be harmed by a quantum mechanics interpretation or a proto-quantum-gravity theory. The fact that the reaction was so out of proportion, suggests that it struck a nerve and this was really an ego thing with them.

This all makes me sad, because this project was a private quest of mine for 15 years, which occupied so much of my time. And the thanks I get is vile abuse, credentialism, and actual attempts to belittle and bully. I've got to believe that eventually I will meet some people who at least hear what I have to say. But there are just so many really nasty, insecure, power-hungry, egocentric, delusional, self-serving people out there, and from what I'm seeing, scientists are some of the worst ones for it.

casual hot take Women have an odd sense of entitlement over men's bodies

I'm not sure where to begin. I noticed women don't seem to have the same kind of mental barrier regarding men's bodies?

I know it's strange mentioning this considering that we know what women experience from men.

I guess examples would help. For example about myself, I have had the experience of multiple women my age grabbing or slapping my ass at the gym. I didn't know these women they did it in passing and everyone kind of laughed.

I have had repeated experiences of women randomly grabbing my arms or rubbing my chest mid conversation when I've literally just met them. Same with reaching for my abs. And the errant crotch grab.

There were more than a few times where women felt it was okay to just sit in my lap with a few of those instances being them simulating a lap dance then laughing it off.

I know I probably shouldn't complain given the extremes but I have had conversations with friends who've had similar experiences and I've literally witnessed friends being slapped or hit by their girlfriends. I haven't seen the opposite even though I know it happens to people.

Heck I've had girlfriends hit me or outright ignore physical boundaries like it's just a Tuesday. I don't know. I just saw a video of a shirtless guy being grabbed at and it gave me flashbacks lol

Edit: I have people telling me my experiences didn't happen so that's a bit disheartening and I will probably delete this soon but it is what it is.

Being attractive and attracting someone are not the same activity

A man can be handsome, wealthy, physically fit, and impeccably groomed, but if he doesn't know how to hold a conversation, express genuine curiosity about another person, flirt, establish rapport, or recognize whether someone is interested in him, he's going to struggle romantically.

Conversely, a relatively ordinary-looking man who regularly socializes, makes people laugh, expresses himself comfortably, and knows how to build relationships might have a thriving romantic life without ever setting foot in a gym and I personally know a lot of people like this.

Now, I understand that going to the gym and engaging in these looksmaxxing communities is tempting for a lot of young men because it provides something measurable, some quantity or quality that you can compare yourself to, a standard that you must reach. When you go to the gym, you can follow a program. You lift progressively heavier weights, eat properly, and eventually see measurable improvements. When you pursue financial success, you can establish goals, acquire skills, and measure progress through your income. When you improve your appearance, you can follow a skincare routine and evaluate the results in a mirror against the old you.

Is self-care going to make you attractive? Absolutely, but that's just half the battle.

Socializing with women is fundamentally different.

You can do everything right and still be rejected. You can be funny and receive no laughter. You can be charming and encounter someone who simply doesn't find you interesting. You have to deal with another human being who has her own desires, preferences, circumstances, and agency.

There is no progressive overload for romantic compatibility. And the truth is that you will get rejected a lot, because people are allowed to be picky with who they want in life. They have standards, just like you. And, I see this with a lot of my friends, but human interaction is not a transaction. It's not a "I do this, therefore you must do this for me."

So, what exactly is the thesis of this tirade that I've been on? Be more sociable. Engage in your community. Join a group that has both men and women. Expect nothing.

casual hot take Characters should not refer to a queer character inside a piece of media in modern-day terms to categorize their gender/sexual orientation if it doesn't make sense, historically and tonally, to do so.

I'm sure there is a historically accurate way to call someone gay in 15th-century Europe or ancient China.

I'm sure this fictional race's reproductive biology makes their cultural opinions about sexuality and gender different from those of real-world humans.

Why are your ability to construct fictional human and races and places so fucking limited when it comes to sexuality and gender.

This applies to indie stuff as well.

Moths are just superior overall, cute and fluffy and have a higher pollination rate for flowers and crops like peas, soy and fruits.

serious hot take We as a society are too hard on victims of abuse.

I am a victim of abuse. And I know other people who are. And the use of “victim mentality” really rubs me the writing way because:
1. Not every victim has it. Some people have that “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” mentality

  1. even if they do have that, they are a victim so why wouldn’t a victim mentality be present. I believe that thinking you’re a victim is the first step of healing.

I understand the end goal is to “get over it” but that doesn’t come immediately. We give these people no grace I am also guilty of this.

serious hot take You shouldn’t have more than three kids

As someone who grew up with 5 siblings, it’s hell.

Most people are finically equipped to be taking care of more than three children in today’s economy. If you cannot afford to give your child their own bedroom you shouldn’t be having them.

My parents don’t know the first thing about me. They don’t have time to spend with me and all my siblings. This is a concern for a lot of people growing up a lot of siblings.

No financial or emotional support from parents at all. Just having kids to have them and not considering they’re actual people.

casual hot take “Punching up” is often used as an excuse to be mean in a socially acceptable way

Yea sure go ahead and make fun of shitty ceos or leaders be my guest. But does the ordinary man really have more power than the ordinary women in day to day life? The average white person compared to the average minority person? I don’t really think so. So if you direct jokes at them and say “punching up punching up it’s fine”, imo you’re just trying to be mean and covering it with a cloak of social acceptability.

”Historical oppression” isn’t a good reason for that too. My country and people were occupied and massacred by the Japanese during WWII, does that make it ok for me to throw atomic bomb jokes at random Japanese people now? Of course not.

lukewarm take TikTok is so sensitive that it’s actually pathetic

So many social medias get consumed by absolute nonsense sensitivity that ruins the app. I’m a younger man and so it’s not like I’m an old man yelling at the wall. I see people my age and wonder why they are so pathetically fragile.

It’s the little things. People who take everything as an insult, or racist, or sexist, or a micro aggression. I saw a video of a guy talking about how chipotle isn’t good anymore and MULTIPLE comments were saying that hes trying to hint at disliking Mexican people, LIKE WHAT??? I saw a cooked video and the lady put like 4 bullshit ass warnings; TW: Spoons, TW: Knives, TW: Smoke, like are you kidding me? Are people really triggered by SPOONS? Sure, maybe your dad did heroine or some shit, but it’s a piece of metal.

It’s like these people hate having fun, they always see the negative in things that weren’t meant to evoke any negative emotions. I see people comment this stuff on normal posts and just wonder what this person is like in real life, or in other comment sections. Every video I see, there’s someone who is offended by it, and often times it’s not even about them. Like tell me why a blue haired white girl with an anime pfp and a pastel mess of videos is commenting saying that she is offended because someone committed a “micro aggression” against Asian people. By the way, the video was about Panda Express meat being suspicious. It’s just insane.

casual hot take I think we need to bring back shaming people.

As a society some folks have gotten way too used to doing/saying unkind things to others without any real repercussions following. I know that *technically* shaming someone is not the right tactic and we should take the moral high ground and yada yada yada, but honestly, some people deserve to be called out publicly for their bad behavior. I especially think about this in the case of kids. A kid says something shitty about another child? I think they deserve to hear something shitty about themselves in return. I think publicly shaming folks would help some people not become assholes in the future.

NUCLEAR hot take cringe culture is a psy op and it is harming society a lot more than we think it is.

by cringe culture, i mean the system of belief from the internet that tells you that liking anime or being a furry is an unforgivable sin. however, that's not its only rule.

if you look at it objectively, if you follow every rule of cringe culture, you just can't be human anymore, all you can be is a worker. singing and playing an instrument in a public place was an acceptable thing to do until the internet decided that being a "ukulele girl" was cringe. most art, everything except realism, is heavily discouraged because "beginner art" is cringe and it's safer to never try, plus it's "degenerate art". dancing in spaces that are meant for dancing is cringe, if you dance at a club you might get recorded and you could become a meme for the rest of your life.

there are only two things you're allowed to do if you want to completely avoid being cringe: working and scrolling.

also, think about who is considered cringe and who isn't, along with their demographics. everyone knows that fandoms are cringe.. but not all of them. the fandoms that are cringe, like digital circus and hazbin hotel for example, are ones populated by neurodivergent and queer people. fandoms that aren't, such as for love island and football, are fine because they're populated by straight neurotypicals. ALL of the personality traits that are considered cringe are documented autistic traits; having strong interests, being too loud or too quiet, being less socially aware, and being creative.

it's especially about the "having strong interests" aspect. cringe fandoms are defined by the fact that the people there are extremely into the source material, in ways that neurotypical people just don't experience - this is what's considered the worst sin. cringe culture is an extension of conservative extremism, but ESPECIALLY ableism.

homophobia and transphobia are also huge in cringe culture. again, think about, having colorful hair is more common among the lgbtq+ community and it's cringe, stating your pronouns is cringe, having fashion styles more commonly seen in the lgbtq+ community is cringe, being gender nonconforming is cringe, being visibly trans is cringe, everything that is cringe are things considered "degenerate" by the alt-right.

speaking of the alt-right, it is a raging fire and cringe culture is the firewood. autistic men and boys are often affected by cringe culture through bullying and also just observing the fact that people hate their interests, just like any other person affected. however, these men and boys tend to congregate in more and more right wing spaces because they keep being ostracized. they end up in hateful cesspools like 4chan because even though it's turning them into alt-right nationalists, it's a space where they can talk about anime. cringe culture takes autistic men and boys and turns them into incels, neonazis, and often into violent criminals motivated by their hatred, the hatred that came about because cringe culture isolated them.

lastly, the spaces that perpetuate cringe culture the most, like 4chan, have direct ties to the elites. twitter is owned by elon musk, the creator of 4chan is friends with epstein, and tiktok encourages alt-right content while silencing people who talk about epstein etc.

cringe culture is an epsteinian psy-op made to destroy the human spirit through mass brainwashing so they can have workers that want nothing else, because being human is cringe.

i spent 12 years of my life trying not to be cringe, but then i realized the people i'm trying to please are scum.

on top of all of this, cringe culture is making children grow up too fast because they are no longer allowed to have the awkward stage. now you're expected to look like a model by 13. also, it's a major cause of the literacy crisis, because reading is cringe. the fear of social ostracization has been turned into a weapon by the elites, with us as the ones firing it, towards each other. they don't have to tell people not to read, they don't have to outlaw any activities, they don't have to do anything themselves, they can just let the cattle destroy each other out of desperation to be liked.

EDIT: this isn't about actual harmful weird behaviors, that's a whole different topic.

If the MRAs spent their energy campaigning for prison reform, improving mental healthcare and lobbying to end conscription, they would get laid a lot more

A man fighting tooth and nail against the saccharine slavery and profitable injustices of the modern private prison system? Who has both the compassion to see past his brother's mistakes to the humanity that beats red in their twin chests, and the fortitude to take on a faceless, implacable and remorseless foe?

Is he single?

A man who knows his mettel is not proved by some death march to forsaken sands, who sees no honour in bloodshed, and would sooner die on his own terms than be paraded off to have his soul, if not his body, shredded by tracer fire and shrapnel whilst making orphans, widows, graves? Who says, calmly, against the bellow of the machine "If we must sin so, let it be our choice, and ours alone!"

Do you have his number, maybe? Or his Snap?

A man who, as if to temper the steel we all see glinting in his heart, has endless time and love for those who've lost their way? Who volunteers at the phone bank? Who gives solace to the shut-in on Christmas Day? Who sees the abyss lurking in his friend's grim features and does not turn his back but instead says - "I'm here for you, brother. I've been there too."

_basement immediately floods_

I hearby announce on behalf of my specific delegation of womankind that if y'all boys just get your shit together and actually fight for the causes you endlessly bring up to deflect from women's issues, we will not only join you on the barricade, we will suck your dicks whilst you're up there. Get out there and take care of business and I guarantee we will fuck even the shortest amongst you.

I'm being a little tongue in cheek here but for real, y'all ain't getting it wet by whining about having to pay for dinner on dates, or the fact some women are impolite whilst airing their grievances. You're angry? You're pissed off with how raw a deal the world has given you? We are too. So quit being a crab in a bucket and punch up.

casual hot take Hot take: you cannot be a leftist or a human rights advocate if you don’t care about disabled people

Ableism is in fact a form of bigotry and it’s getting way too normalized! As an autistic person it baffles me how many people who openly treat disabled people like circus freaks are the same ones who fight for other marginalized minorities. We were also victims of the holocaust, we were thrown into institutions and suffered from unusual treatments. We are often being used as an insult and seen as less human. You cannot be a human rights activist and ignore ableism and join in on making fun of disabled people. And stop infantalizing us! We’re not “forever children” nor are we “stupid”.

serious hot take A lot of dudes want to be GIVEN an attractive girlfriend and aren't being honest about that.

A lot of guys hear every solution to their problems and still want to resign themselves to hopelessness.
And before a bunch of you say "I don't do any of those things." Or "I do all of this and I'm married". Then I'm clearly not talking about you.

A lot of you guys will say things like not wanting to "settle" when nobody asked you to. You say you're short, ugly, neurodivergent etc. and it's hopeless. Or you haven't god awful personalities and lack the awareness to improve those things, but blame anything and everything on somebody else. "It's women who are the problem."

Stupid things like "hypergamy" and "gold diggers" hold you back, and you cry foul and rage when women call you "incels" for thinking like antisocial weirdos. At the end of the day you're only holding yourself back. A lot of you hate hearing "Improve yourself" or "have confidence" but it's really what you need to do and it's the harsh truth.

Yet it's easier to complain, join echo chambers, play whataboutism, and embitter yourself than to self reflect and do the work on your negative qualities. You want a woman to fall into your lap against her will. Socialize, work on yourself, learn about the women you like, take on new interests and experiences, get offline a while.

It's hopeless because you say it is.

hot take, harshly criticise me for it! Nobody commits evil voluntarily

• Upvotes

Nobody wakes up and says: "I'm going to make the absolute worst decision for myself today."

Every time someone does something terrible, selfish, or toxic, they’ve convinced themselves in that moment that it’s somehow good, necessary, or justified, which is ignorance, not ill-will. And just like how we can't blame a child for being ignorant of so many things, we cannot blame a fool for being ignorant of his own ignorance: he is unaware that what he is doing is detrimental to himself, and thinks he can get some benefit out of it.

Sorry for being a bit gimmicky, since my whole claim relies on "voluntarily". While it's true they commit evil, my point is that they're unaware of it, which leads to an interesting discussion about whether or not they're guilty of said evil deed...

casual hot take AI music has made me question whether I've ever believed some of the values I thought or think I do.

• Upvotes

I feel like I've got some sort of severe cognitive dissonance. I think I am against AI being used in the creative fields for the most part. Art. Music. Hell, even programming.

Not that it's likely to happen, but I think AI would have been okay if the "training data" it was fed was opt-in only. I'm on the side that doesn't believe that works made by artists, musicians and programmers are "fair use" just because they're available publicly.

The question I find myself asking is, do I actually fully believe this? As in, have I lived my life in accordance to these ethics? Because in all honesty, I don't think I have. At least not completely. Now, I do get this disgusted feeling when people try to monetize AI generated music or art and don't see myself hopping on board. Like, I'm learning animation and there's no part of me that wants to "outsource" that process to AI.

Yet I find myself actually liking some "music" generated by AI. Or at least aspects of a generated piece, just as I would pick apart and enjoy aspects of authentic (yes I'm gonna call it authentic) music. It made or makes me question my own taste. My own ability to discern what is real and what is "fake". What constitutes real or fake. What the meaning of art and music is. How I've listened to or consumed music in the past.

I used Limewire back in the day to listen to songs without paying for CDs. I used YouTube to MP3 converters. I rarely ever paid to listen to musicians. If I couldn't watch a show or anime on cable, I'd use a "free" streaming site. This makes me feel like my complaints about AI music and art are somewhat empty and hypocritical.

I always thought the idea of a program capable of detecting "why I like certain songs or patterns" would be cool so it could redirect me towards other musicians or songs that I'd enjoy. Now that it's possible, I'm a bit scared (yet also curious) what "it" means for us going forward... or backwards? I dunno. There's just a lot of "I don't knows" when it comes my feelings about the current and future state of generative AI being used for "creative" purposes.

casual hot take Getting a License has become too easy.

I have been around cars my whole life. I learned how to drive at 10, learned a stick shift at 12. I didnt get my license till I was 21 cause I was too lazy to go to the DMV to get it.

When my dad was testing me, he tested my parallel parking ability, reverse parking, pull in. In a empty parking lot, then a crowded parking lot. He even got a water spray gun and shot me every time I picked up my phone.

Then when it came to my actual testing, it was testing if I can stop 3 times, do a sudden brake, and pull in park. Didn't even ask me what I should do if I park on a hill. Took less then 10 minutes. My dad was even confused on why it was so easy.

It shouldnt had been that easy for my to pass it that quickly. The getting a "license from a cereal box" might as well be true. It makes so much sense on why people are such terrible drivers.

Edit: Since someone wants to be hostile towards me, imma quickly explain something. My dad and grandpa taught me to drive on a private road, I never drove on a public road.

This is a HOT hot take, and I'm not a hater, I don't really like this whole lumping everyone into a generation label and saying they're all the same. This is my conspiracy theory as to why this is such a frequent topic:

- Politics

- stubbornness translating in business practices, leading to layoffs

- housing market

- discrimination

lukewarm take Of all the animals on Earth, humans are the most miserable and suffer the most.

Consider boredom. Human beings can barely tolerate sitting quietly with themselves for any meaningful length of time. We need constant stimulation, distraction, entertainment, and something to occupy our attention. Think about that. Simply sitting in existence, without something to distract us, is often incredibly unbearable.

Next consider how routinely we engage in what might be described as a kind of slow, passive self-destruction. Drinking, smoking, drugs, overeating, and countless other habits that shorten our lives. We claim to cherish existence while repeatedly engaging in behaviors that undermine it. Although these aren’t always expressions of self-destruction, but attempts to make the experience of existing more tolerable.

And then there’s the endless cycle of problems and solutions. We spend our lives identifying problems and desperately searching for solutions, only to discover another set of problems waiting around the corner. For most humans, life is little more than an endless series of inconveniences, each one supposedly solvable with the latest gadget featured on Shark Tank. We’ve somehow managed to turn the burden of existence into an endless shopping opportunity.

We chase happiness as though it’s a destination, only to find that whatever satisfaction we achieve is very temporary. The moment one desire is fulfilled, another takes its place. We are perpetually dissatisfied creatures, forever trying to improve an existence we insist is already a gift.

And perhaps the cruelest irony of human existence is our own self-awareness. We may be the only animals so sufficiently conscious of our existence that we feel compelled to continuously explain, justify, and assign meaning to it. We don’t simply exist; we agonize over why we’re alive, what goals we’re supposed to accomplish, whether our lives matter, and whether any of it means anything. This relentless search for meaning is itself a source of great suffering.

Consider a squirrel. For all we know, it spends its days gathering food, avoiding predators, reproducing, and simply existing, without ever feeling the need to justify its existence. It doesn’t sit in a tree contemplating whether its life has purpose or whether it’s living up to its goals and potential. Of course, we cannot know the subjective experience of a squirrel, but the possibility raises an uncomfortable question: Has human intelligence and extraordinary levels of self awareness made us better equipped to enjoy existence, or merely more capable of suffering?

And this burden of self-awareness becomes particularly cruel when we confront our own mortality. Not only are we conscious of our existence, but we’re also conscious of its inevitable termination. We know we’re going to die, we know everyone we love is going to die, and we know there’s likely nothing we can do to prevent the eventual extinction of our own consciousness. Unlike the squirrel, which probably has no concept of its eventual nonexistence outside of immediate threats from predators, we humans spend decades anticipating an event we are powerless to escape. Yikes…talk about something that causes a great deal of suffering.

Perhaps nowhere is our discomfort with existence more apparent than in that relationship humans have with death. We struggle so profoundly with the strong possibility that our consciousness simply ends that we’ve constructed elaborate religious and spiritual narratives promising otherwise. Gods, heavens, souls, ghosts, reincarnation, eternal reunions. Entire belief systems built around the comforting possibility that the one thing we cannot escape might not actually be the end. Last time I checked the squirrel does not have squirrel gods.

Look around. Humans are anxious, irritable, resentful, exhausted, medicated, overstimulated, and perpetually searching for relief. We romanticize childhood without being honest about what we’re actually romanticizing: ignorance. We dread aging, fear death, complain about working, lament time, and spend enormous portions of our lives wishing things were different. Back to our squirrel friend, I highly doubt it’s sitting up in the tree thinking things were different.

And yet, despite all of this, we’re expected to maintain that life is inherently good, that existence is an unquestionable gift, and that anyone who suggests otherwise must be depressed, immature, or incapable of appreciating the goodness of being alive.

What fascinates me most is how defensive people become when these observations are made. Rather than examining the argument, they often attack the person making it. Pessimism is dismissed as adolescent angst, cynicism, or psychological dysfunction that needs a pill for correction. Perhaps that’s because acknowledging the darker implications of existence threatens the comforting narratives we’ve constructed around it.

TL; DR: Humans are the most miserable of all animal creatures, suffering more than any other animal. One is better off being born a squirrel.

Legal prostitution would fix a lot of imbalances and problems in modern dating culture.

If prostitution was legal, there would be a less competitive dating scene, because if someone wanted their sexual needs met they could go pay for that, so it takes the power/market/unbalance between genders concerning sex out of the dynamic. Romance for instance would be worth more, because if a man or woman getting laid doesn’t require them to participate in the dating market, the value of sex in dating wouldn’t be as high and therefore other traits like romance and compatibility would become the things of higher value.

Porn has done more damage to society than birth control

Had a conversation with a guy where he claimed that birth control was worse for society than porn. I shouldn’t have been shocked I guess but I was.

I find it interesting that birth control is often blamed for the breakdown of traditional relationships and families, when its primary purpose is to give women greater autonomy over their reproductive lives.
Meanwhile, we have an entire industry built largely around the consumption of women’s bodies, often prioritizing male gratification while reducing women to objects of sexual desire.

I don’t think pornography created misogyny. I think it’s a snake eating its own tail. Society’s existing attitudes toward women influence the content being produced, and that content can, in turn, reinforce those same attitudes. And I think the effects extend beyond sex itself. The way women are portrayed sexually can influence how they’re perceived and treated in relationships, how men approach intimacy, and what they come to expect from women.

There’s a difference between sexual liberation for women and greater sexual access to women. The two aren’t interchangeable.

Birth control has allowed women more freedom to decide when, whether, and with whom they have children. Yet somehow, that autonomy is treated as a threat to society while the potential consequences of normalizing women’s sexual objectification receive comparatively little scrutiny.

I’m not suggesting that all pornography is inherently degrading or that everyone who consumes it views women this way. But I do question what happens when sexual gratification is repeatedly presented through a lens that prioritizes men’s desires over women’s humanity.

Women’s sexual liberation should mean greater agency over their own bodies, not simply greater access to those bodies for someone else’s pleasure.

serious hot take Being cheap when it comes to dating as a man is probably best filter you can use.

Like honestly this is just the truth now honestly I should probably reword this by saying if you arent going to be cheap at least do it within your means.

Like if you don't get a second date you arent angry about the money you spent pretty much like going out to the casino don't spend more then your willing to lose.

But honestly doing this will filter people out honestly from the ones who are actually interested and the ones who are just trying to get something out of you.
